  1. karlnp, just a friendly heads up, we had codenamed our servers as well and were asked to change. I'm not saying that you will be, but being the first to run codenames in the namespace and experiencing that, I'm just suggesting you don't make too much of an effort to brand your servers like that.

I think you're the one missing the point here, skippy. As I've explained to you several times now, rocket isn't trying to turn DayZ into the world morality thoughtpolice trying to cure racist thoughts with server bans, he's trying to prevent players from being insulted or abused by other players. Maybe we should require all players to have open mics that are constantly broadcasting on side chat so if they scream racial slurs at their monitor during a temper tantrum, we can ban them for that too. After all, just because nobody would hear them if their mics weren't open and broadcasting doesn't mean they aren't being racist, right? I mean, they're still saying racist things in a way that nobody can understand, but COULD understand if they had open mics, and we absolutely must catch that behaviour, because it's not a matter of protecting players from abuse, it's a matter of thoughtpolicing racist scum.

If somebody insults me in a language I can't speak' date=' I can't be insulted, can I? Try as they might, the insult will never get through to me. No need to solve a problem that doesn't exist, is there? Yeah, so? Players who want to group up with internationals can use the salute or friendly shake. Or they can hire translators. Look, you want to compare this to a sport, so here's how it works. There's a governing body, like FIFA or the DayZ DevTeam. Then there's the individual matches, which are the servers. And then there's the teams, which are the players. Now, the players want to do things how they want to do them, that's fine. You want to only group up with people who speak English? Great, do that. Want to hire a translator to sit on TeamSpeak with you so you can roll with some internationals? Cool, go fucking nuts. But what you can't do is say that particular matches are outside the purview of the governing body. Sorry, that shit doesn't fly.

UK3 Admins hate to die? or even HACKS?

That means the server likely did crash rather than being closed gracefully (unless they pulled the plug on the actual server at the data center/colo center' date=' which I really, really doubt). Yes, range finders are in the game.

Yeah coaches are part of the team' date=' aren't they? So they form teams around commonalities without feeling the need to restrict inter-team competition to those same commonalities. I mean they can feel free to make a team entirely of people who can't understand each other. That's a thing they can do. They'll probably really fucking suck, but they can do it. Just like all players, regardless of language, can play DayZ according to a unified rule set, and they can form their teams around commonalities (Clan, language, location), or they can just spend the entire game trying to figure out what the other one is saying. And all without trying to put artificial limits on what languages each team must speak before heading up against the other. Huh, fancy that. [hr']
  7. As Syk pointed out, I'm wondering mostly about 1:1 NAT. Setups like this tend to require 1:1 a lot of things (ie: 1:1 virt/phys NICs), and a lot of things that tend to go wrong if you forget one of those things. Basically, check all your pairs first and foremost. Double check, triple check.

WOW QUITE THE LOGICAL TRAP YOU SPRUNG ON ME I CAN'T ACTUALLY REFUTE THAT... ...unless, of course, I point out that a DayZ server isn't slotted with people who are all on the same "team" and is, in fact, full competitive PvP. Whoops, forgot that bit, didn't you?

    Anybody else seeing this?

Nope' date=' that's a Netherlands IP, as you can verify for yourself, which fits with what faaa posted.

Request: Allow Bans for Death Dodgers

If that's the case I'll need to immediately terminate my hosting duties. From hereon out, Ander, any interaction with Chicago 1 and Chicago 20 should be done through Owl, the now-only host. Owl is aware of the namespace changes which we discussed, and does not need to be brought up to speed. Regardless, I'll both encourage him to run the server for at least another month for the sake of the donors, and direct him to send you a private message so that you two can get up to speed on the issues we discussed. Maybe he'll run it without me, but I consider repeatedly stalking players through channels to be disruptive to their play experience, since the problem could (and would) be alleviated with an admin on. The logic runs like this: If an admin were on and a player was being so disruptive, the disruptive player would be warned (without penalty) and the players would have a private channel created for them, either a temp channel (for ad hoc groups) or a permanent channel for a permanent group. Since admins cannot be on 24/7, the server must be maintained in such a way as to emulate functionality as if it were run under active administration 24/7. Since solutions in step 1 cannot be enacted when no administrator is present, a contingency solution needs to be present to create a stimulus that is sufficient to either disincentivize disruptive behaviour or incentivize positive behaviour. Since no positive behaviour is being checked against, it is necessary to disincentivize disruptive behaviour, and to do that the penalty needs to be sufficiently steep (such as a loss of privileges) to actually affect the outcome. This regulation directly impedes the ability for the server to be run as close to constant admin monitoring as possible at all times. It is also overreaching in its scope that those who violate a term of service for connecting to leased chattel cannot thereafter be permanently barred for interacting with that chattel, and overreaching in that any server administrator who hosts multiple communities from the same server cannot take action against a person who has violated the agreements or provisions of the other communities to connect to their servers. I find neither of these things reasonable.

Request: Allow Bans for Death Dodgers

Yeah, I absolutely do think it's cheating, and it violates the TOS I provide the TeamSpeak 3 server on. I have no problem with eavesdropping or integrating into a group and backstabbing them. I absolutely do have a problem with violating the terms of service I provide a public access, private service on and following groups through the public channels that are used for ad hoc groups, especially since I provide private group channel creation for any permanent groups that form on our servers and the ad hoc open channels are meant to provide a similar service without handing out server permissions to the TS for anybody who joins. Again, it's happening on privately leased chattel -- my server -- and I consider it, and let people know I consider it, tantamount to actually following a player around on their private property to try to eavesdrop. Overhearing another DayZ player on a bus loudly talking about where they hid their stuff is quite different from opening the unlocked front door to their home and skulking in the dark outside their computer room.

    KOT hacking

Yeah that's what I was thinking was a possibility too, Legacy. You can occasionally walk around in that forest where the units are placed (before they're initialized and moved to where your location was saved at). Any player there can shoot your unit as it loads in but before the unit init scripts are finished, and pop you. Unfortunate, but there you have it. Of course, that's just one possibility.

I just don't get this idea you're grasping at that having players who speak other languages on the server as some sort of impediment to grouping. Is it your intention to group with the entire server? Are you playing on a server with 2 slots' date=' and are worried the other person is going to be a Russian? Not all players are going to want to group with you or form groups with other players. Not sharing a common language is about one reason in a thousand I can come up with. So, again, seriously: Don't group with them, or even operate under the expectation that they would otherwise group with you if only you shared a common language.

    Server Chat/VOIP Etiquette?

    ^^^ That
  15. U said i would cheat and i want u to proof this' date=' i really want to see the Logs, including the chat log. I dont cheat and Im always nice while Chatting! [/quote'] Doesn't matter if you don't cheat, Battleye can still detect things as "GameHacks" and issue a false positive. What seems apparent to me is that: 1. Kalle may not be aware that Battleye issues false positives and is not actually evidence of players cheating. 2. Pino may not be aware that Kalle is not fabricating evidence against him and Battleye likely did generate and log this report. Shame, really, that what is most likely a simple false positive has resulted in this.

UK3 Admins hate to die? or even HACKS?

Server admins will frequently lock a server to do a controlled launch. As for what set off your alarm bells, well, I hope you don't ever see the group I roll with, because we have four DMRs between use, all six (or so?) of us with NVGs, GPSs, silenced weapons for zombie killing, and that's not the mention the M14s, M16 ACOGs, and vehicles. Find things, stay alive, win.
