Seasons, padlocks and other ideas - Long post warning

Hi, I am new to this day z mod but I can give you some suggestions that would be useful. EDiT: Those suggestions are meant for last releases not for next update. 1) seasons. 1) seasons I don´t want snow etc. (that would be impossible to do due to map size) but chernarus is actually located at mediterrean, where is not much snow at winter (coastal areas i mean). What I want is at winter, your temperature would drop faster, you couldn´t harvest or farm (if it would be included later) and swimming in water will make you loose blood and temperature rapidly, water in bottles could freeze, as well as pumps, lakes and soda cans so you cant refill so often and you´ll need fire to heat it up. This might create scarce resources. Also walking on grass would make more noise, since the ground is frozen, Visibility would be lowered and zombies will be slower. 2) Login places. 2) Login places If you own car or tent you can save it and you´ll spawn next to it when logging on. I take logging off as sleeping, in combat as withdrawing, so thats why you would spawn here in user-designated location. Else you would spawn at server-designated location, nearby city you logged out. Also Iwould make the tent location or car spawn location tied to server. If you go to another one, you´ll spawn at server-designated location. 3) padlocks and barricades. 3) padlocks and barricades I want to create my own safeheaven, but sentry idea sounds like atmosphere rape to me. Wire doesnt prevent zombies from spawning inside barricaded perimeter, sandbags are more cover than baricade... I want to find a rare padlock which will make me and +1 friend to able to unlock it. You can use padlock on buildings , but you´ll need one for each door. About cars, if you find car keys with lock set you can lock your car. For vehicles, I would love some camo net as well. Make it rare of course. Locks coudl be opened by explosives(i believe you understand danger of using explosives), bullets (that could ricochet and hurt you) or crowbar (again you can hurt yourself while trying so). Tied to it are traps for defense while offline and wood planks to barricade stuff(need hammer and nails, creates noise while banging it on windows/doors). Planks would be removed only with explosives and traps with toolbox. Everyone, even owner can launch traps. 4) safeheaven. 4) safeheaven This is tied to my previous idea, at the safeheaven you can create fire if it has fireplace to increase your temperature or cook meat, but you will make yourself visible (smoke from chimney/light from fire). Also at safeheaven you wont be affected by weather outside (tied to seasons idea). Connected to this would be farming, workshop where you can repair stuff with -1 need of scrap metal, craft something etc. I don´t want that fallout house, but i want something to store some stuff and do some stuff. Also you would have to defend this place as well. With generator you can use lights for better defense, radio, electric stove etc. 5) food crafting. 5) food crafting I really like beans but I would like some more stuff to do with food and drinks. Mainly I would love camelbag. It would take 4 tool places and will prevent you from dehydration if filled (5 bottles or pump/pond). Also good idea would be to sterilise the water by boiling or some chemicals to decrease chance of infection. Also I would like to have some tea/coffee and sugar/honey. With this you can boil water and create tea (green makes you regen blood, black gives you hype, white slows hunger, fruit gives more temperature then other) to gain some boost and temperature or coffee to get hype. Sugar could enrich them with a temporary blood boost (blood donors know what i mean) and honey could enrich tea with chance of healing infection. Hype would make you more cautious and faster but faster dehydrated. Also I would like some cooking more than fry a steak. Add rice, potatoes etc. you can harvest or find and also some seasonings that swoukd give a little boost of some sort, lets say I have cooked meat, salt and rice. I can create tasty dish from it which would increse my temperature, blood and salt would make some temporary decrease of dehydration but at prize of slight thirst (thats what salt really does). If I had chilli it would add some blood regen (it helps a little) but at cost you can be sick if you eat it too much, and you will get slight pain shakes. Beans can be used as well as pasta or sardines so you could make chilli con carne! :) Also add alcohol as alternative for painkillers. downside would be you can make yourself sick or dead (too much or mix with medicaments) About water one more time - It would be nice to sterilise it with boiling to decrease chance of getting sick, to make tea/coffe etc. But I would like a new cantine - camelbag, which would take more space, but your character would be imune to overtime thirst for lets say hour. Then you´d have to refill the camelbag. I am saying overtime thirst because I think that later ine there will be some things that would make you dehydrated (bleeding will effect hydration, temperature etc.) and camelbag should prevent only the overtime effect, physical or chemical aspect would need treating. 6) overtime blood regen. 6) overtime blood regen Really if your character is nourished and not dehydrated then you should regen blood slowly. 7) depression. 7) depression Really it is a great deal. When you are in middle of this hell, you can become depressed. It would make you slower, able to lose some stuff and your hunger indicator might not work. The inhumane characters would be more vulnerable (extremely inhumane would be imune because they are cold s.o.bs) Safeheaven can be cure, as well as socialising (to award the cooperation) or andtidepressives. Alcohol will only make you more depressed and if not cured you might hurt yourself (like emos). The chance to get deppressed would dopend on humanity, safeheaven ownership, teaming up with others etc. Also if the family quest would be added you might be deppressed from your family death and become grieving - which will heal itself unlike depression. If you don´t cure deppression and don´t give a sh*t about hurting yourself your condition might become worse and you might became paranoid/schizophreniac so you can hear noises and become clumsy and lazy. This condition couldnt be healed. 8) weapon jamming. 8) weapon jamming To make fights more tense, add some random/panic related weapon jamming. This way you´d be forced to stop using winchester over remington because winchester jam ratio would be higher, makarov would jam a lot, revolver and double barrel would be imune to jamming but has longer reload times etc. 9) last but not least is body armor and carrier systems. 9) last but not least is body armor and carrier systems BA(like IBA, press vest etc.) would be extremely rare but prevent you from bleeding when hit in chest (neck and groin with some versions of iba). But with higher caliber you het broken rib which will prevent from sprint and anti-materiel or high burst of higher caliber will make you bleed. BAs will be damaged by use and can be repaired with sapi plates (rare). IBA would give you more space in inventory but less mobility than press vest. On the other hand carrier systems like mns2000, ciras, rrv or chest rig would not give ballistic protection but increase your inventory size. Chest Rig would make you faster and less audiable but at cost you cannot wear coyote backacks ( they require molle system), ciras will make you hold more ammo(separated ammo pouches) but at cost of being slower and louder and mns2000 would give you benefit from czech backpack by decreasing visibility and audiability of zeds, combined it would give you same spaces like now you have with assault pack. RRV would make you faster than ciras, able to wear molle packs but also more audiable. Vests will take place in tool. Make them rare or common, depending on their benefits (chest rigs should be common, as well as some police vests). Between BAs and CS would be plate carrier which would be extremely extremely extremely rare (like 0,001% chance to spawn and max. one spawn per server per hour) but will give you best of both worlds - protection, mobility, molle system and increased slots. Also spawned should be without gun, backpack and carrier system or body armor . You should have random item of desired loot (compass, watches, matches, hatchet, toolbox, hunter knife, antibiotics, bloodbags, padlocks, binoculars etc.)and static loot( beans, bandage, morphine, epipen, water bottle), to give you a head start and to every playing be something else. This will pretty much create classes. Implementing this, well i would set the skins with hitboxes that allow chance to bleeding. Default would be vanilla civilian (plenty skins, i believe even female skin is from civilian) which might be random or maybe later player designated, then with vest you change your skin to pmc or military skin. vanilla: civilian- defaulf skin which you will bear after spawn napa- no vest, primitive camouflage usmc would be iba, or rrv (recon) cdf/chdkz would be chest rig russian would be like chest rig, but with more space for ammo - vests bear more add-ons: pmc would be plate carrier, ciras or rrv british would be ciras and osprey (pretty much same as iba) czech would be mns2000 or ciras (601 skss) takistan army - rrv This would create a huge diversity in players, you might recognize freshly spawned etc. However this would be extremely hard because of female skin, you´d have to make some new models and skins for females. I believe that moding comunity already did that but... you know - needing permissions might complicate things. Also please add extremely rare vietnam flashlight that gives you free hands when used. EDiT: 10) player-to-player based quests. 10) player-to-player based quests Player could give quest over radio (consuption of baterries) on quest frequecy (if you make radio please make also frequencies) so you can help other or kill them and steal their loot, or stalk them to see where their camp is etc. Player would must have radio on them or be in car (with radio on and tuned on quest frequency). This way, the atmosphere would rise because bandits will no longer be forced to camp and players could use some tactics to gain loot other than searching (rewards, stealing, giving quest that i need akm and will give atv for it etc.) 11) cellphone 11) I know, it needs electricity so thats why it would work only when generators would be released. But my idea is simple - make some private chat in game using some oldschool cellphone (i would love Nokia 5110 ). This would be just to create some ingame comfort. cellphone would be pretty much common, because it is and will take tool slot. It might work as flashlight (green chemlight effect)l could be used in crafting - bombmaking etc. and might work as decoy... but main idea would be in-game private chat. EDIT2 - 4.7.2012: 12) Smokers 12) It would be nice to start as a smoker (add cigarettes of course) with new need meter - nicotine level. Advantage would be you start with zippo lighter which (unrealistic but need some advantage) will be unlimited or fillable at gas tanks. Disadvantages are - nicotine meter, might be more visible (smoke/light source while smoking), shorter breath. Cigarette model might be just red chemlight with less light. If nicotine would be low, I would implement desaturation of screen like if low blood. After few days without cigarette (and with desaturized screen) you´ll get rid of addiction and may continue. During the "rehab" you will also get dehydrated faster. Also might be available some nicorettes or things to get rid of addiction. This is minor detail, but I believe that beggining makes the game. TL;DR - i dont force you to read it, try to read at least first two sentences of each point. -

If you can land 50 cal sniper shots on the generator or turrets then you can destroy them. So placement of these pieces of equipment in blind spots and hidden from view is also a tactic that needs to be taken into consideration. I know the heli trouble, believe me. And I also found out that heli certainly doesn´t worth the trouble at all (you need skilled pilot, everyone wants to kill you and it runs out of fuel fast like hell). Gear worths the trouble. As I didn´t point out - heli can be great advantage (if those pilot, fuel and other problems are handled). It is superOP in hands of an asshole as well. The idea of turrets is not crazy, it just doesn´t fit well. There are NATO weapons and vehicles, because NATO did this kind of stuff to post-soviet countries (google post-soviet nations and check their armies. 7 of 15 has nato arms but soviet ground vehicles). But lets move on to the logical aspect of the turrets. It is logical you want to defend your property and I get it. But prototype korean turrets in post-war, post-soviet and economically devastated country, just don´t fit. Yeah, they might try them out there but... they would brought like 2-4 of them... chance that they would be still functional would be low. Really low. Every single idiot who has screwdriver and can-do attitude would try to make them work and... probably shortcircuit them. And the gameplay aspect might get disbalanced. Imagine some asshole putting this turret somewhere, where lot lf people travells, and deploying e turret is possible. Just to gain kills and beans. That´s right, if turrets would be added to game, you might end up hating your own idea. And exploits? Well... server hoppers will rape them. They grt the idea of turret, find it, serverhop to safe distance with 50 cal or dmr, pew-pew-pew, profit. I am not opposing you. I want you to see also the negatives, and to reconsider other barricade options. There are people who like your idea, and there are people who don´t like your idea. Best way to make them like your idea (and not force them into it) is to imagine their position. Why don´t they like it? Just to give you some thoughts - this game is kind of MMO simulation and the universe assumes, that everyone is asshole. And stoping assholes from ruining your fun is impossible task. You give here turrets and you end up killing lost survivors in the best case scenario, and t he worst case... you just make a huge "here is something interesting" sign in form of turret that emits sound and fires at horrible accuracy. So I still believe in guerrila warfare - traps, camouflage and ton of luck. -

Serverhopper idea... I think this should be up to server owner and not the mod. I mean' date=' I would prefer to have red dot (zombies have white) when someone logs on nearby me. The bean coast might be misused (any idea might be) that - need bandages, spawn on another server, wait for someone else to log in or scout nearby, collect them, heal myself and then return... Why not to bind player to one server when alive? Why ot make one server- one character principle ? So I believe this should be up to server admins and not modmakers to solve this :) Every barricade should be removable, with rught equipment or sh*tton of c4. Oh and bear trap should not only brek leg but also make massive bleeding, and have to main point it usually has - to make you static. That is how hunting traps usually works. That is why your main concern should be camouflaging the whole damn place. Baricades and beeping blinking things, as cool as they are, makes the work easier. Grab a rifle or nades, or helicopter and just lay fire until this precious piece of gadget stops like number five. You should hide your stuff, instead of pointing at it. And if someone finds it, it is much better ho have some car then none. Even with tires broken etc. And that is why this game is so magical - people are as*holes. They use often the logic "if not me then noone" but you may have missed the concept of simulation to want them change or to make them stop. You have to stop them and defend your stuff. Noone else will do it (except your squad maybe). And turrets would be contraproductive, walls would be contraproductive etc. The game needs to deal with more important stuff first, but then... well I believe there will be some submods like where you kit find turrets, anticamp system etc. So everyone might enjoy it. But imagine that someone put the turret on the bean coast... or 20 turrets on the map and someone attacks them at one time. This would probably make server to crash... Also would the turrets attack zombies? If not, then you ight find yourself in horde and if yes, then they wont last a minute... shooting will warn every sing,e bean collector or bandit in mile radius. Idea is good, but not as a mod feature, but as a possibility ;) -

This is meant for some usage of humanity factor. Also to force people to think first and than shoot because your character will be more humane and less cold mofo. I mean no consequences are making players so eager to kill each other instead of cooperate... Also I want to eliminate those murder geeks who will kill you from helicopter just to have fun. Imagine that your character would be so debilitated that because of fun from killing' date=' you now have schizophrenia and you can´t walk in night because you are panicking all the time, hear noises etc. Russians with helicopters would hate this :D Having opposite sex character in group would also help you get over depression. And add a shaking from panic too. More subtle than from pain but still, some shaking. Thank you ;) -

so that make you believe, that 90% of nato weapons in ex soviet country is normal? yeah.... ussr was gone for more than 20 years when the game takes place. It´s common in real world so why not in game? I amnot against rising diversity of weapons, i am actually for it. I am against replacing them nato guns with russian counterparts idea, because thats just stupid and ignorant on chernarus backstory. post-soviet countries that has nato guns in military and law enforcement sphere - armenia got $7 million supply of guns from usa in 2006 estonia modernised to nato weapons shortly after they joined nato georgian ground forces got not even m4s but even marpats. They dont use any russian weapon azerbaijan bought recently marauders and because of friendly state with usa, usa is main supplier latvia joined nato and modernised, uses british dpm camo and german HKs lithuania uses m16s and m4s and czech camo for infrantry turkmenistan army partially (special forces) uses arx160 yes, almost all of them are using russian vehicles, so that´s why uaz is in dayz, but im not sure why the land rover is there as well(it is not gaz, its rover). And huey sould be replaced with mi-8/mi-17 , mi-8 has even been used in civilian sector, so it would fit more. I want more russian vehicles, but mot sure about russian weapons...I love uaz, i want some civilian version, include zgrynda from vanilla, add moskvich, lada niva and i would love to see like one new modern age car (every country has someone rich) like lada granta which is cheap car but lets say the expensive cars fled with owners or exploded :D So I am definitely for vehicle russification but no for guns. Add some more but dont replace. -

I assume you mean "why are electrolytes often added to IV fluids?" This is done to maintain water-electrolyte balance in the body' date=' as the electrolytes are necessary to allow an electrical signal to pass across the cell membranes. Without a proper balance, the muscles would not be able to contract and the heart would cease to function. The key word is 'balance'. You can't just eat some salt and expect it to hold your fluids in, it doesn't work like that. The amount of natrium chloride your body needs is very small and it is something that can be found in every kitchen in the world, I think it would be a little beyond the scope of the game to add a 'season food' mechanic. [/quote'] erhm... did you just made my whole post your tl;dr citation? I talked about small amount and balance there :D but the point is to make some benefits from food and drinks other than just not dying. because nutritions works many ways and can improve your health (balanced diet) or pretty much ruin it (junk food) and lots of poeple seems to not acknowledge it ;) I am not saying add malnutrishment but add some bonus from exotic/rare stuff to improve your food ;) Also military MREs would be cool. They have great dosage of nutrients except for fibers. edit: i just realised that you made my idea greater - you might overdose on salt which will make you dehydrated faster :) treatment would be well... increasing your drinking rutine while salt overdose is in effect. -

you need salt a lot, it has two main electrolytes - chloride and sodium (third is potassium) that your body needs a lot. It does bounds water to itself but to dehydrate yourself you need to eat a lot of salt. And thats not my idea, in small amount it holds liquid inside body and prevent the from escaping. as the sodium and chloride are used in body, so does the water molecules bound to it. why do you think that saline or IV is solution of salt? Yes it takes water from cells but puts it also back in (sodium, potassium and chloride can actually travel through membrane and hold nutrients such as water molecules) Salt, in small amount, helps you digest water better. I mean small amout of 500 miligrams, which is RDD. Now the salt water is different - it makes your kidneys cry and thats why you dehydrate yourself. Because the amount of salt is humongous. But salt you put in the food helps you. I am not encouraging to eat Bender´s dish of salt ;) EDiT: potassium is needed to regain water from bloodstream, if you dont have enough potassium then you are dehydrating yourself with salt. Potassium is in fact in beans :D -

+1!! exactly my opinion. Europe is full of western arms, hell we even make majority of them (FN, HK, Glock, Benelli ... they make your FAL, Minimi/m249, m9 etc.) and with the chernarus backstory it is just logical that the us and western europe guns are there. And no, chernarus is not czech republic themed, after all - czech republic uses latin instead of cyrilic, has their own weaponry (CZ) and has no coasts. Its more of balkan/eastern europe themed. But CZ are really favourite all around eastern europe so it should be added. Add guns, dont replace them. damn those rusophiles... :D -

have you though about padlocks that would make doors and cars unenterable to anyone but owner if locked (if unlocked everyone has access), wood planks to baricade windows and some traps. Also it would mark your house as habitated so zombies wont spawn inside but will spawn nearby. If the house had fireplace you could make fire as well to increase your temperature. You could designate two owners, since most padlocks has two keys. Also crowbar can remove padlock, as well as fire arm, but hey - its normal. Also if my idea of login places succeeds, then you could save yourself inhouse without any time restriction and if anyone has this house on other server you will spawn right outside ;) ( to prevent ghosting) -

I know there are like thousand of this suggestion but I´ll mae safeheaven system. Logging out would be like sleeping,rigth? So if you are under fire you certainly dont go to sleep. So if you have tent deployed, you spawn nearby, if you have vehicle you spawn nearby that vehicle (both must be saved and saving would be available once per 10 minutes) or you can sleep in tent that is not yours, risking that you can be looted from the owner of the tent. In your own tent you can´t be looted. When tent is flattened, you would survive but loose some stuff. -

what about camelbag tha t would make you imune from dehydration for... lets say 10 minutes per liter in it. it would take 4 slots in tool box and refilling would need 5 bottles to fill (most of cbs are 4 liter and most of cantines are .75 liter). I would make it rare as well. Also with meat, I would include a little crafting in it. Some seasons that would give you boosts, like salt that would make you thirsty at first, but also make you less dehydrated over time (lets say for 1 hour). Salt does this in real, because it has awesome feature - it holds liquids inside body so you sweat less etc. -

+1 but instead of blood, i would make players dehydrated faster during the hype (caffeine does it) . Also include tea, which will enrich water (need fire) and makes you regen blood (green tea does pretty much the same) and increase your temperature, and coffee that will give you hype for longer time with same dehydration level as sodas would. Also include sugar which will give you temporary boost of blood(blood doners knwo what i mean)and could be combined with tea/coffe or eaten alone. Soluted will last longer (it is ingested faster). Honey would be nice as well but it will give you chance to heal sickness, combined with tea. But this is all my dayz crafting ideas :D good idea would be water solutable pills with calcium that will help you regen blood as well (but you´ll need water). If eated alone it will dehydrate you, and could make you feel sick die to concentration. And if we want more realism, eating should dehydrate you a little as well as swimming in salt water. -
hey this is actually a good idea. But main reason of BA is to prevent bleeding and thus save life. So I would make it that body armor gives you 90% protection from bleeding if hit in the chest, but 30% more chance to have broken bone. Damage by shot would be same. I would like to see IBA as well with the neck and groin protection, CIRAS which would make you slower and more fatigued if full, but you could hold more items in inventory, Chest Rig which will make you faster and less fatigued ( without any protection as well) , also less audiable, but you could hold less items and cannot equip coyote backpack (it needs mole system) but you could equip a new one - airborn backpack which can hold many items, but only one medium sized weapon or two sidearms. Also since there is czech backpack i would include mns-2000 system (it would make 2 more item space with slight increace of fatigue/reduced stamina) and czech camo. All of it is in arma already. Also I would make it precious and included with some skins (military skin - chest rig/iba, special forces/pmc skin - ciras, civilian - none/chest rig) But this is stuff for final version. This is alpha :)

glock is european (austria) and widely exported, lee enfield is european (uk) but too old to be so common (as well as winchester) and I would make them less common and/or replace them with some russian alternative. But rest of the weapons, I dont really see problem. Include more CZs like CZ75 which was really favourite in eastern block, CZ805 Bren, Scorpion etc. those guns fits in but I dont see fitting with historical american gun like winchester. But lots of guns you mentioned are european (m1014 is italian, m249 is belgian, m9 is in fact italian and exported incredibely etc.) or heavy exported american (m16s, 1911, remington, m24 etc.) but mainly used for law enforcement and/or military in eastern block. It is a incredible stereotype that every post soviet country is now equipped with AKs and RPGs. Czech republic always had its own weaponry - CZ, bulgaria uses HK/steyr and AK in their arsenal, ex-yugoslavia (where is chernarus, i believe) uses mainly nato guns and russian vehicles - like croatia, bosna etc. I mean Chernarus is not Iraq... its copy of montenegro (Chernagora in russian). So I believe that guns will be fitting if you reduce those historical lees and winchesters. CZ 550 is hunting weapon so i believe its ok that its there. I would love to see more CZs though, especially 75 and 2000 ;) I am slav if you ask and I live in europe so I have first or second hand experience - I travel to ex-yugoslavia a lot. Buthey, i am no rusophile so maybe thats why i would restrict this idea a little.
