    Keep humanity in Day Z!

Pretty much this. The best thing they can do is encourage teamplay. Punishing a certain playstyle is artifical and should not be implemented. Read my signature for more info if you dislike bandits
  2. Wouldn't eliminate loot maps whatsoever, unless there is not loot to begin with
  3. I feel you bro, pic related
  4. They didn't have the new skeleton added in the first clip so it's hard to tell what the final product will be like. We just have to hope for the best
  5. I'd gladly do the tire changing minigame four times if that means I get to drive that lada out from the little town, rather than wait around for twelve seconds just because my tire-changing skill is low or even worse, not do it at all because I lack the proper traits. Just doing the animation like in the current system is not too exciting either. Imagine pumping up the winch, then screwing out the bolts and pulling out the broken wheel. All this while zeds might spot you. No time to slack around and over time you would obviously get better at this just because you know what to do and in which order
  6. Not necessarily forcing them into teamwork but rather encouraging it. By making some of the tools harder to carry players would have to make the decision between the ah-so-useful axe and a toolbox. Skills in a game like this dont feel very good approach as the game tries to make it's UI and hud as minimalist as possible. They could add a simple hunger meter but instead they chose to not do it and come up with something more immersive, we are yet to see what it is though. From what I've seen they really want to emphasize the authenticity of the survival experience, to really make you feel that you are a survivor in the zombie apocalypse. I know I wouldn't feel too immersed if I had to worry about skill developement or traits I noticed that I have learned a great deal of things in dayZ without really thinking about it. I have learned to the mildots of the m24 rifle, I have learned to read the points of the compass from wristwatch & shadows of trees, I have learned how to move quietly in the urban areas. If there were a skill system that would allow you to see meter markers on the mildots after landing enough shots with a gun or a trait system that would let you see where is north from wristwatch & shadows or a skill system that would let you move more silently in urban areas I would feel much less immersed. There are lot of things to learn in the dayZ mod as it is without any skills or traits. Sure the things I listed aren't lost wen you die but that's not the point What I think makes me worry about dying more in the SA than dying in the current iteration of the mod is the clothing system. When I finally manage to gather an outfit with all the parts I want it's gonna be a heartbreaking moment to lose all of that nice stuff if I die. The game with more danger elements like infections make it far more deadly world even without the player vs player interaction that makes death feel mundane
  7. When the information is dug out and posted online a hidden system like this wouldn't be so hidden anymore. What I find the best solution for skill system is to use real life skill via minigames. Have you ever played GTA chinatown wars? In there you need to do a certain minigame in order to get a stolen vehicle to work. They can be something as simple as screwing open the lid and connecting two wires. This sorta thing would increase the skill ceiling of the game as you can make these minigames far more complicated than that. To make them feel immersive can be quite hard but as long as you implement them nicely into the game world with no weird camera angles nor tacked-on interfaces they should be fine Where do you get the idea of side chat? Does not sound very authetic for me. Was this in one of the patch notes?

    Weapon Customisation

I want to wrap muddy cloth around my AK just for the added camouflage. It's gonna be tricky to add that kinda things though
  9. I feel like he OP has a point there. If you look at how animations in arma2 work you can clearly see how clunky they are when you transition from one animation to another. You can't run&swap weapon because that's 2 animations conflicting, you can't jump & grab stairs because that's 2 animations conflicting. What the thread starter is trying to imply is how valve makes animations that can be combined with others. What adds a great deal to the clunkiness of the game is exactly the issue with the animations being forced to finish and not fluently shift to oneanother. Now in order to move from standing to crouching and aiming you need to first aim/crouch, wait for the animation to finish and then do the other. If the skeletons weren't fixed to one animation at a time their legs could do the crouching animation and the upper body could do the aiming animation all at the same time. If they do all of the animations in the mocap and add them to the skeleton as a whole they can't mix em like in the corouching & aiming example I gave before I at least assume this is the case. I'm obviously not in the dayZ dev team so I don't know what's going on behind the scenes but I do understand the concern some people might have
  10. I tried to think how skills would work, could think of any way to fit the game thematically I tried to think how classes/traits would work, could not think of any way to fit the game atmosphere IMO the best thing we can do is to encourage teamwork via lack of tool slots. If hatchet took up like 6 inventory slots and a toolbox would take 8, it would force people to work together to carry all of their fancy items with them
  11. Humanity system should definitely go. What we need is encouragement for cooperation like fortifications, clan activity and less high-end military loot. Anything that spawns out of thin air just because I didn't shoot someone sounds terrible. Only humanity we need is the one we already have, the only reason I ever went and sniped people in elektro was because there were literally nothing better to do

    surrender animation keybind

Lowering weapon is not nearly good enough. It's too easy to just rise it again and fire unexpectedly

    Get a grip, Zombies!

I am fairly sure that zeds are more into flailing and biting than holding and grabbing. They should be able to hold you down if you fall over and tackle for sure but holding seems kinda complicated We'll see in the near future what they have in store for zombie animations :] The fast zombies is a feature they will keep. It's what makes them so intimidating. View range is affected by the weather and time of day as well as your own actions. The reach is caused by lag, will be fixed in SA. About the wounds... people can claw open wounds. Scratching and biting will easily cause bleeding if you put enough force into it. Have you ever met a human before? Man they got those razor like scooping claws and somewhat sharp teeth D:

    Advanced (zombie) infection in SA

I wish that in the SA when you die you turn into a zombie after a while. That way the loot wouldn't disappear from the world with your corpse, instead it starts walking around with the current clothes you had on when you died. Obviously it wouldn't be carrying around any guns but yeah, would a nice to see player corpses walking around assuming the player wasn't blown to pieces when he/she died
  15. Way to attach some rags or wrapping a bandage around it should be an option in the standalone no doubt. If they aim for character customization, having custom firearms is quite a big part of it IMO

    DayZ Fan Art Thread

I hope I get to gear up like this in the standalone eventually :] It got a little compressed, sorry :I

When a player crashes a helicopter

A friend of mine shot down a heli and the pilots corpse dropped directly below the point where the chopper was shot at even though the burning hull traveled a hundred meters forward before crashing down

    More Humanity Level

Could not have said it better myself. Humanity system has no place in this game, it takes away the shine from player-to-player interaction
  19. I haven't got past day 30 without hackers killing me. Oh well, it's a lottery unless you are playing on a private hive

What if we removed the crosshair?

I hardly think there is any need for a crosshair. Why not add quest markers for the bean cans also? It's better to never give the crosshair so they wont even miss it when it's gone
  21. Went prone in a staircase while trying to get my gps open >.<

    (Re)creating humanity points

Any artificial system that lowers the tension in player-to-player interaction gets a no-no from me. We need more activities to do in-game and maybe we will stop KoS, less firearms & ammo wouldn't hurt either but a system like this? No thanks.

Clothing Durability & On ground models.

It should be so that certain actions would cause certain effects on clothing. Such as skinning an animal makes your clothes bloody and getting shot/scratched/chopped at would have the same effect. Running thru a pond would most likely make your boots & pants all dirty and muddy. These could be applied as different textures for the same items which shouldn't be too complicated to implement.
  24. This would encourage teamwork so I'm all in for it

    [SA] Firearm Safeties

Imagine the panic that would happen if someone from your group would accidentally fire their firearm in the middle of a city while trying to get a door open just because he didn't have his safety on! Man I'm all in for this one, WE NEED SAFETIES!
