  1. How do you mean losing everything in 1 hour? If a server loses the data it's not really the players fault and should be adressed differently. If you mean that you lose your stuff when you go to sleep because someone sneaks in and takes your junk, that's your own 'fault'. Be glad that you weren't inside and get yourself killed in sleep. I think a key part of making a base is hiding it. With the tents already I've seen a great deal of hiding tent cities, I expect things only to get better in tha SA where we get proper bases The best way i think to adress this is having locks that take a serious amount of firepower to punch through or just a key which you can give to members of your group. Keys would fit nicely in the toolbelt without consuming an item slot or any of that nonsense. Keys aren't even a necessity. The bandits have to sleep as well so it's not like people are trying to assault you 24/7 unless you set up your base in a high traffic area. Remember that we will be getting all those nice traps in the future as well so you can add a little more protection in the vicinity of your base of operations with a few bear irons for those unwatched hours of night :] Having an open discussion about stuff like this is awesome!
  2. I'm fairly sure the chimpanzee would prefer the xp treadmill where he gets a cookie when he hits a button for a hundred times over a system that takes planning and reading. Heck, even rats can be taught to do repetitive tasks for rewards but they can't be taught to read
  3. I don't really see the issue with the current system. The game world is intact 24/7 and when you log out only your character disappears from the world. I'm having a hard time seeing what's wrong with it other than people losing their junk if they leave it unguarded, and I don't see that as an issue

    Ethics of the common player

I do get what you are trying to say. It was not very well thought out plan. I don't know what kind of servers have you been playing on but the servers we were on at the time were not very teamplay orianted. Most of the players were russian and since we don't speak russian it's always risky to try to make contact as the other people might not even understand whatcha sayin'. We made up the plan hastily but for their and our misfortune they ran at us instead of south or east where we expected them to run, not thru the open field northwest Being friendly was not really the mentality people were playing at the time from my experience at least. Sometimes when I saw people at the cosatline as a fresh spawn after death I tried to talk to people in direct comm if I saw someone and had no weapon myself, what did I have to lose but usually as they saw me they shot me. Can't really blame em, I might have been a bait or I might have had a pistol in the backpack or hatchet in toolbelt. I'm not saying our approach is humane, nice, anti-KoS, justifiable for most people or anything like that. It's just how my experience of dayZ has taught me to play. We try not to be part of the problem (even though I kinda am, there's no denying that), as we mostly move offroad and only risk it with populated areas when it can't be helped
  5. With the 'choose the right procedure' minigame example I gave earlier players would actually get better at giving first-aid. Without any sort of artificial xp or trait system

    Ethics of the common player

I want to make clear that I have no problem with other players shooting at me, KoS and all that nonsense. If they have me on their sights without me knowing about it, I salute them. They outplayed me The berezino situation was kind of messy from our part. We had an unfortunate accident earlier in a gas station where my friend broke his leg trying to fit thru a door, lost a ton of blood and our last morphine. We had no blood bags nor meat so we headed straight for the hospital. He was all grey screen and below the random feinting blood level, and he was supposed to be my safeguard when I go loot the hospital. When we saw the 3 dudes we knew I can't just walk up to them or else we both die. We tried to scare them off, me being about 200 meters west from their group and my friend was about 350 meters, northwest from them. As long as my friend was concious I knew we had to make something quickly as I weren't able to epi-pen him up if he fainted on duty. I shot two bursts in the general direction of the group an that got them moving. They got scared and all in a tight pack they started running towards my friend with all our food and gps. When they were about 150m away from my injured buddy I told him to just take the shot as we didn't want to engage in a fully-fletched firefight at that point. Their front runner died and the whole group dc'd. I guess it woulda made my case a lot clearer if I had put effort into explaining our motives before. I don't know how long a distance would that direct comm went but we weren't in a position to start a healthy discussion anyways, also we didn't know russian and had no guarantee that they'd speak english as we were on a russian server without side channel at that time North in the ural we knew better than to take our chances when there were two vehicles on top of our lives at stake. At berezino it was our gps, DMR and ghillie at stake. Our playstyle might not be the friendliest but it's risk management that has proven effective, and at that time I expected others to do the same. After the side channel got removed from most servers I feel that the game turned a lot more hostile. When we were all newbs and stuff we asked for directions and stuff from other people near the shoreline when we were starting out. We felt that it wasn't all hostile world but without side channel and getting outplayed by others we changed our approach I do wish that we get to do a lot more cooperation in the SA so see ya there hopefully :)

    Make Players Unique

Developing this sorta thing takes a great deal of developement time and thinking and for what? A marginal increase for someones stats if they want to grind in the forest? I don't see how this would benefit the game really. I'd rather have them implement planks that you can nail in doorways to barricade them, that would take less developement time a feature that would benefit more people in the long run than some hidden number system
  8. I went prone on a staircase, broke my leg, lost most of my blood, fainted an still survived. That was just ridiculous, I should have died instantly- stairs are dangerous yaknow!

    Please add Jumping into DayZ

A movement system like we have in battlefield 3 would be the most optimal as that game has made the 'touch' you get in with the character as good as it can be. The vaulting and strafing feels etc. feels perfect IMO so if we could get a fluent vaulting system like that I would be a happy survivor
  10. DayZee. I used to call it DayZed but that was just too much of a drag in the long run

    Ethics of the common player

I wasn't trying to justify my actions by those two occurances, that was mostly just us learning the hard way that you can get killed by a total stranger for no apparent reason. I think our total killcount was around 12 people, 10 of them at least with ghillies so it was no 'shooting someone in the back at supermarket'. We don't hunt out people but if we happen to spot someone, we shoot before asking questions. If we saw someone at the berezino hospital when we were about to go loot it, we would try to scare them away rather than giving them a chance to retaliate. This one time the two of us were at the treeline looking downhill to berezino from west. We saw 3 people at the hospital so we fired some warning shots towards them with ak while my friend had one of them in his DMR sights. They obviously panicked and started running away but for their demise they ran straight at us so we had to put one of them down (before rest of them left the server) when they were at a firing distance of us. We tried to make them all alt+f4 but it didn't work out for them. They were foolish to all be there at once and not secure the perimeter whatsoever. That was one of the two times when we shot a non-wookiesniper player. The other was at stary sobor which i mentioned earlier A situation where we see a guy at the supermarket is not really something that could happen to us, we started playing it so safe we are quite sure that no-one has seen us before we've seen them in the last 200 hours of gameplay. We dont go around following people we spot at the horizon but if they happen to cross their paths with ours, we will KoS if they are armed. Gladly that's not a thing we have to put up with constantly. Now with the combat logging system added it would be more likely that we would kill a lot of the less experienced folks we run into but back when I was still actively playing, it was 9 out of 10 encounters where the enemy alt+f4 after taking a shot I would be all for the no-KoS stuff but I don't see it happening anytime soon. We'll see how the standalone changes things and if we get to see more grouping up of the players
  12. It would still encourage people to grind as there will always be players trying to optimize stuff like this. This could possibly lead even to things like botting where people run circles or throw rocks via bot just to get better at it when they want to play themselves. I do kinda see the appeal of getting better at jogging via jogging but IMO the downsides far outweigh the benefits. It's exactly the kinda gameplay that would ruin part of the 'everyone starts at the same line' -stuff. For minigames I feel like that we should get the visual representation of the sympthom, a brief description what is going on and we should be able to choose which treatment to apply. IE. "player x is feeling light headed" and you can see that he's bleeding quite badly from his hand. You would need to bandage the wound and then apply a bloodbag to fix him up Even though lipemr keeps claming that dayZ is an RPG, I have to disagree. We are playing as survivors, no more, no less. It's kinda like saying pong is an RPG where you play as the paddle and try to get the full experience what being a paddle in 2d space is like

    car alarms

It would have to be implemented in the somewhat intact cars only, yeah

    Make Players Unique

They can increase the surface area of the map. A hundred players distributed in chernarus as it is aint that much really, in the current state of the game though it would cause problems since people gather near the shoreline to pvp
  15. I guess it's the kinda thing we have to trust in devs to do right, like everything else about the game. Even making fire could be a thing like this so the 13 year old kid without any knowledge how to light a fire would be stuck with his matches and unlit fireplace for all eternity. The picture in my head made me chuckle ^_^

    Make Players Unique

It might sound that way but when people find out how to do it, they will post it online and endless grinding would follow. I don't see how this would improve the game whatsoever, the less we know and the less we can affect our characters through repetitive tasks, the better. The more we learn outside the game about the game that makes us more skilled as individual players, the better
  17. They actually did the first aid kinda right in the America's Army 3. It was extremely simplified minigame where you needed to treat the sympthoms with the right kind of first aid equipment. All we need is them not to tell us what the sympthom is, but we can observe the injury ourselves in-game. Then choose which item to treat the injury with from our inventory. Bang! That's a real skill based system within the engine, easily doable

    Ethics of the common player

Me and my friend haven't had a lot of gunfights really. Usually when we saw someone it was NWAF or stary sobor- neither of those places are too uncommon. At that point it's usually ghillie or camo suit on both of us and assault rifle or better. The people we meet aren't there for their can of beans most of the time, if we see a ghillie dude with as50 sitting on a hill near stary sobor we wont take risks and start yelling friendly. Has happened multiple times. Only unarmed player we shot was heading for an AKM in stary sobor less than 10 meters from us even though we told him to stop. The firefights we found most dangerous were over vehicles. This one time we were ridin' our motorcycle in the northern wilderness between Petrovka and Gvozdno. We came across a fully fueled, 100% condition ural truck there. We started looking up what's in it and suddenly we see three dudes running towards us over a hill nearby. They didn't see us but they definitely saw and heard our motorcycle. We opened fire before they did as we were certain that they would not take kindly on us looting their truck and got all of them down with the cost of my friends life. It's that kind of KoS that we did, at that point it's not really where we want to risk starting all over again. We did not sit near NWAF or stary sobor camping, we pushed forward until we had everything there is to be had Too many times we got shot as newbies because of our ignorance. The first time we got to stary we got shot by a guy we never even saw, and neither of us had had any guns at that point. Our first two trips to NWAF were lethal to us as well. It's about learning from your mistakes and taking minimal risks. Now when we need medical supplies one of us sits in the treeline with a high caliber sniper rifle and the other runs to berezino hospital, we KoS because we sorta have to. If someone did find us before we did, lowered his weapon and said he's friendly, we wouldn't shoot him back unless his group outmanned us. He would be no threat to us. It's just that rarely anyone sees us before we see him, and at that point it's too late for him if he has a firearm Just my two cents on ethics in this game
  19. I think you should really follow the developement blog. MMO with a progression system is a dying breed. It's about time we dont have a threadmill forced on us. It's an outdated concept added in the monthly subscription based business model to keep people playing. It's not really needed here. Minecraft for example is doing just great without any progression system other than exploring the game
  20. And why exactly would anyone want to risk it and not just kill the guy? Why punish the friendly players?

I assume you are just acting dumb and provocative there ;) There are no shooters like dayZ, I enjoy the survival experience but at a certain point there's nothing better to do than go shoot fresh spawns or stop playing. I stopped playing. When I came back for more surviving I got killed by a hacker. I've gathered full gear with my friend at least 5 times and every time a hacker has ended us, it's not worth playing anymore. When we were playing we trusted no-one. I did meet a player once and didn't shoot because I only had makarov at the time and was trying desperately to find bandage for my bleeding friend, that was the only time I had any non-KoS interaction with other player than my friend.

    Weapon Customisation

I doubt they do it like that as it does not require a workshop to attach a silencer in real life...
  23. A month of content seems WAY WAY WAY more than most games can offer, and I was entertained for two just by the mod in it's current state. The standalone will be more challenging as the gear can't be farmed and they keep adding new stuff weekly so it's likely that the target audience will get a lot more content they love. Collecting a nice set of clothes can be a worthwhile activity as a single hacker can't just kill you with a single command. Also things like infections, body temperature and improved zeds will make your life more difficult so gathering that stuff will take more time It's a zombie survival simulation somewhere in russia, as authentic as possible. If that's not your cup of tea, you might want to look into l4d2 or zombie bowl-o-rama

I trust no-one but my friend. KoS on everyone else because that's the nature of the game these days
  25. I like the way they are planning to do this but hey, only time will tell
