Nice. I love the Kobra version. Goofy as fuck but excellent for medium - long range. Extra bonus is that usually no one bothers picking up AK rounds so they are quite prevalent. Edit: If you know where to look. -

It's obvious you It's obvious you are a proponent of meta-gaming which is a discussion unto itself as it relates to the mod and standalone. Yep, speaking only about the mod. Perhaps I should have made that more clear but it is a text only medium and hard to convey all the nuances... I agree, he most definitely has accomplished a hell of a lot with very little. I don't profess to know his mind but it would stand to reason that they (The DayZ dev team) would try as much as possible in this Alpha mod now to establish much of the standalone content later. I'm simply saying they should take another radical turn and see how it works out. We are after all only testing this thing, not playing a full-on finished product. -

I may be mistaken but I was under the impression that Rocket has stated that duping is impossible to fix in the mod. It is for this reason that I believe tents should be removed utterly. Better no mechanic than a horribly broken one. Also there is a systemic glitch that is responsible for the never-ending supply of items. Many people (myself included) have reported tents that magically refill at every server restart. I'm not pretending to be an authority on it, just repeating what has been stated before. -

Would be interesting as a last ditch way to avoid starvation... Over the top side effects would be needed to keep it from becoming the survival strategy of choice IMO. Good post OP. -

Couldn't agree more. Storage removal should be implented now in the Alpha phase as a test to fully explore it's ramifications. I will be extremely uncomfortable with no /severely reduced storage but I will learn to cope with not having a safety net. Seems to me that is more in line with Rockets stated intent of making the "anti-game". The overabundance of gear is watering down the entire experience. How exciting is it to take down someone who is fully geared when you yourself have all the same gear? Pointless DMing is done much better on other platforms and shouldn't be the primary focus here. We have been fed the same gameplay for so long that it is hard to think outside the box but ultimately will be much more rewarding. Take the training wheels off Rocket, we can handle it. -

I have to respectfully disagree. Tents are the problem because they are the mechanic that enables duping/ server hopping/gear hoarding that leads to infinite ammo, infinite guns, infiite supplies. Without a working mechanic we are better off with no storage mechanic. Maybe then we will have a survival game instead of DubstepSelloutLensFlare Zombies4... ( :D ) Edit: Hacking is insanely bad and a cancer to this game/mod. -
Should 1 Hit Kill Sniper rifles be removed from DayZ.

Voted other. Keep them but make it much harder than the current point, click, boom bullshit. Any shot over 500m must take into account not only bullet drop but scope sway and wind. Maybe not realistic for the .50 cals crazy velocity but a better mechanic for gameplay IMO. -

Without gear sinks, inflation runs rampant. How many players have you run across with this combo recently? AS50, M4A1 SD, ghillie. Rarest of the rare is now common place. Broken mechanics = broken gear economy = broken gameplay. +1 for removal of tents and a complete character/gear wipe on next build. Then when Rocket introduces new features he can have a clean slate to test said features with. The first rule of DayZ is: you do not talk about DayZ.... No wait... don't get attached to your gear. -

Agree with this as a form of skill progression. When a character starts out he/she shouldn't have a hope in hell of just automatically being able to assemble a heli main rotor assembly. Given time and the successful repetition of similar tasks, said character should be able to at least attempt this operation. I guess what I'm in favour of is a sort of modified "Morrowind" type of skill progression where your character can attempt anything but the chances of being successful at it increase with repetition of the same tasks. Hell, I think you should have a better chance to damage a vehicle with a new character than actually repair it. The same idea can be applied to any of the current interactive tasks in the mod and others I would like to see added for standalone. Hunting, medical, mechanical, weapons maintenance, construction, etc. OP I think you have some good ideas and would agree that storage of some sort needs to stay in some form but as it is tents(duping) just flat out break the mod. Remove until fixed for a better experience. -
Haha glad I'm not alone... We've had the magic admin fairy visit us countless times. Spend hours fixing up a V3S truck, drive North to camp. Hide, save, take two minutes to stash gear in tents, turn around and voila no truck. Hmmmm...... Had countless other vehicles just literally disappear before our eyes. Pretty limp IMO. Don't know if admins can do this but seems suspicious to me. Hackers can't be the only ones despawning vehicles.

Does anyone know if there is a realistic encumbrance model in the mod? It doesn't seem too noticable as my character does seem to move slower with a LMG but not appreciably. AS50 or MK 48 Mod 0 should have you at a near walk for your sprint speed as they weigh a ton compared to an assault rifle. Bigger loaded pack = slower reaction time and movement speed. More realism please Rocket. -

One of our old camps has about five tents full to the gills with gear we stole from a clan that keeps resetting itself no matter how much is taken out. M-16A203s, MK Mod-0s, M-249s, M-134(?) Rocket Launchers, on and on... we finally just abandoned it as there is just zero challenge left being geared like that all the time. I imagine the excitement when new people stumble upon that treasure trove but also think it should all be deleted as that kind of self replicating war chest just flat out breaks this mod. Good on you for resisting the temptation to KOS everyone and everything. I know I have found myself playing a lot more solo (most of my buddies are horribly bored with DayZ already) and making dashes to the beach to help new people out. (ie: cleaning zombie hordes off their backs, giving out steaks and meds, etc.) Love the idea of weapon degredation and upkeep. Would add a new layer to the onion so to speak. -

Welcome to DayZ. My advice: raid a duper camp... tons on the west side of the map near the boundaries... just head West of kamenka and then head North. Grab an AS50 and ghillie, (don't worry they will dupe more) then camp outside any major city and KOS everyone you see. It's the right thing to do. :thumbsup: :beans:

Good point about large clan battles. I haven't been in a firefight that size yet and it sounds great! :D True enough about my in-game duration. I would like to experience a scarcity of gear because as of now every second player I run into has a silenced M-4, AS50 - Ghillie combo.... I have all that shite back at camp and much more but just can't justify exploiting with the rest. Just pointless to have a loot system at all IMO, lets just spawn everyone with the same gear in a three block radius within Cherno.... Rare loot should be rare and you should have to make a crtical decision about whether or not to expend your precious ammo. Otherwise we have what we have today - a generic fps atmosphere that frankly chafes me like woolen underwear. Really no decision making is required at all at this point. I would like to see the scarcity of supplies the OP spoke of and see how it plays out because we have all seen how an over-abundance of supplies is working now.
