  1. I agree with you, group play is a blast and shouldn't be penalized but the underlying system of gear storage/loot farming is warping the group dynamic and for me at least, diminishing the fun. Many posters have already said this but it bears repeating. With our collection of tents and vehicles permadeath no longer applies to me and it sucks the life right out of this game.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

The mod is where it all began and still serves as a useful test bed. Abandoning it immediately would seem to be premature IMO. Work it for all it's worth and when the standalone is up to par the mod can be tapered down. Also the mod serves as a live taste of things to come for new people (albeit a broken taste currently) so it helps promote the standalone as well.
  3. ^This man gets it. ^ Rocket has a chance to literally break the mould here. Why would he want the same old-same old fps dynamic that is strangling the industry? Change is inevitable. Radical change is preferable. Especially in an Alpha mod. Bring on a total global wipe with the next build as well as sweeping change to the storage/ loot system and let us test the hell out of it. Now is the time to experiment with many different ideas, not re-hash the same tired old shit.

    claymores.....

I have to be honest, when I saw the title I thought to myself - No.... Fuck NO... But.... if it could be implemented in a way that avoided duping(stand alone?) and was hideously rare, perhaps I could get behind it. In the current state of the mod - NO..... FUCK NO!!! :D

    The Power of a Towel

Nope. Just kind of sad for you. :emptycan:
  6. Just speaking from personal experience here but have had multiple vehicles mysteriously vanish after server restart. Seems to go hand in hand with when the admin finds out it's missing... lol Just last week we had a V3S truck just vanish from our camp.. I mean one minute I was looking at it, went to a tent to swap one piece of gear, turned around and poof it's gone. Hackers? Abusive admins? Ghost in the machine? Fucked if I know. P.S. All proper save protocols were followed. Just have no clue what happened.

    Humanity is back, i'm FKED.

+1 For a complete gear wipe on next update. The amount of high end gear out there is just ridiculous. Speaking from experience my group has raided so many tent cities I will never have to loot again. Detracts from the game IMO.
  8. Therein lies our problem..... That would be an accurate description of the teenage cod rejects that tent dupe the shit out of their leet gear and never have to fear perma death. Deathmatch all you want, once the proper mechanics are in place to make it an accurate representation of "skill". Winner takes all - loser starts on the beach with nothing. As it is now we might as well be playing any generic FPS. Unlimited ammo, unlimited guns, unlimited lives. Just boring crap that "only a dullard would enjoy". You just don't get it.

    Jason stalks among us

I've seen some videos of this guy and as much as think hacking is bullshit, they all made me laugh. One was of a streamer that he chased from server to server just menacing. He never killed him just chased him around terrified. Made the streamer scream like a little girl repeatedly.... Friggin hilarious.

    Hunt The Forum Mod

Well done. Happy Birthday and good luck.
  11. Haha ok. Run along now while those who are capable have a civil discussion.
  12. My bad, I should have elaborated. In no way do I see the mod as perfect. As you say, more ways to interact with the world and other players would add immensely to the overall experience. I personally hope to see clues in the stand alone as to the genesis and back story of the "infection". I just hope this can be accomplished without resorting to the canned quests and xp treadmill style of game design.
  13. Panda- you bring up some good points as well. Excellent, well thought out post. Much of the perceived lack of "end-game" content is a player problem not a game problem. We as gamers have been force-fed the scripted event, xp treadmill, dumbed-down gameplay model for so long that DayZs true sandbox approach is just baffling to begin with. We are truly only limited by our imaginations in DayZ and that seems to be the real problem for the majority. All geared and bored? Try running as a medic, sign up with Freeside Trading Company and guard a player driven trade fair, start a bus service from Cherno to Elektro, hell run down to the beach and give everyone you see medical supplies and steaks. There is no limit except what we put on ourselves.... The central problem in relation to "end game" is our perceptions/expectations and not the game itself IMO.
  14. Then you have formulated a response without even examining the base material. Fundamental FAIL.
  15. Credit to all you guys at Freeside Trading Company. Soldiering on despite all kinds of fucktards trying to crash your servers. Myself and everyone I play with fully supports the great work you are trying to do. We have played on your servers and generally tried to be helpful. (ie; returning stolen vehicles, etc.) It's this kind of player-driven initiative that needs to be supported and grown for DayZ to have a chance at being something new - not just another bullshit FPS. Don't let the brain-dead ass clowns get you down, keep fighting the good fight.
  16. The current state of the Alhpa does seem to me to lean heavily to the permanence of gear (ie: semi-permanent storage - tents) and detracts enormously from the whole "survival" theme as originally intended. As Dingus said it is made wholly untenable with duping and server hopping exploits. +1 for the utter removal of tents or deletion of all accumulated gear upon character death. Make this game HARD Rocket. Some of us want a real challenge, not a rehash of almost every FPS currently on the market with zombies thrown in for style.
  17. OP - This is one of the best things I've seen on this forum. Well said. I too see these issues as inter-connected and stemming from an entirely foreign idea of what DayZ is - or should be. Playing DayZ to not play DayZ is just brilliant. Oh, so true.

Finding Nemo - Looking for someone?

A quick shout to Joe Dalton [Friendly] on the Freeside Trading Companys veteran server... the shootout at the Polano supermarket was accidental... my buddy freaked when I said you spawned in and he fired before I could get my direct coms up... sorry about that we are NOT bandit SOS scum, just a friendly fire accident. hope you made it back there in time to get your gear back.
  19. This - all of this.... Especially number four. You'd think people would have enough of this pathetic COD shit. Good ideas.

[Do you wana pull the Trigger?] [y]/[n]

Perhaps just a visible reminder of the persons bandit status would be helpful as a pop up would hinder functionality to a certain extent. If the server has the option of showing the persons name when looked at anyway it shouldn't be too hard to use say a color system on that name to indicate the likelihood of him/her being a pyschotic killer. Green being a person who has committed no murders, yellow being 1 to 5, red being 5 plus. Seems like a bit of a crutch to me in a game that is aiming for "realism" but could be implemented at the recruit level to help new players adapt.

death screen song changed to "why cant we be friends"

Hahaha.... great idea. Would lighten the mood that's for sure. :D
