Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
-MadTommy replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Personally I think he should have seen the project through to release. That would of been the 'correct' thing to do under the circumstances. However he does seem like a loose cannon and pretty unprofessional, I'm sure there are better people to lead a $30 million game development team. -
Realistic (SweetFX) lighting preset for Standalone.
-MadTommy replied to Intactus's topic in General Discussion
I'm struggling to get it working. I've used sweetfx previously in other games, so know what i'm doing. I've tried version 1.4 & 1.5. What version are you lot using? (I've set my HDR & vsync and am testing in windowed mode) Dayz is not crashing, i'm simply not seeing any changes when i toggle it on/off. Its simply not working. Any ideas? EDIT: NEVERMIND.. I FOUND A WORKING VERSION. http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4581604&postcount=528 -
This might explain partly why I'm getting good performance. My CPU is watercooler and running super stable with low temps at 4.6 Ghz. EDIT: also all my cores run with similar load.. all at about 60%..(if i recall correctly)

I heard Rocket say in a recent interview that zombies are now faster, this is a result of server optimisation. Due to this optimisation i assume they are able to react faster... I assume this is what you are seeing.

It was an assumption I made based off the title of your thread: "22-30 FPS with GTX 780?".. which does relate the fps to the gfx card alone. I misunderstood and assumed you had only upgraded your graphics card.

Persistent storage containers; do you like the idea or not?
-MadTommy posted a topic in General Discussion
Rocket has mentioned that 'persistent storage containers' will soon be tested in Dayz. Most seem to be assuming they will be similar to tents from the mod. Personally i have mixed feelings about this. And i'm curious how others think. I think it is important to stress we don't know what form these will take yet. What size they are, if they will be hive or server based, will they be wiped when you die, etc etc. What i don't want them to be like is tents in the mod. Where you could stash loads of loot so whenever you die you simply run back to your tents and are instantly fully kitted gain. I know many will see this as the whole point of them, but if this is the case i'd prefer they were not included. It has two big problems: It removes the requirement to gear up again, which is key to Dayz. It also means players horde gear as they can really never have too much of the prime gear. As it stands now there is no point picking up a 2nd scope or similar unless it is for a friend. With tents, people pick up everything and stash it in their camps. This hoarding does not enhance the game for others imo, but does the opposite. On the positive side, they give a nice addition as something to do. However i feel this is only appealing now as the game is lacking content, so anything to increase content and things to do will be seen positively. Personally I think they should be in game but be heavily restricted, maybe only allow 'yellow storage boxes' as these are too small to allow the storing of weapons. They should be persistent via server based persistence. What do you think and do you think they should be restricted and if so how? -
I agree something is forked if the GTX480 is performing better than the 780. To answer your questions, I'm running NO cfg or start-up parameters tweaks at all. I wont be on tonight.. the pub beckons.. but this subject has me interested and I'll do some further testing over the weekend and see if i can make sense of this.
-
I'll test further.. i was over looking Zelenogorsk when i tested..and it was at 99%. In towns i'm normally running at 40 fps.. I have noticed the odd time at 25.. but that is the exception rather than the rule. But i'll run some test and see if my GFX suddenly drops in certain towns.

Why are you against many military items in game?
-MadTommy replied to CrazyCorky's topic in General Discussion
Because: I don't want another military shooter game, and having BF/CoD type weapons will only encourage that play style and player base. Why would a survival game in an area 15kmx15km be littered in military weapons. If you drew a 15km circle around my house i doubt you would find a single military weapon. Some shotguns & civilian rifles a plenty.. but no military gear. -
This is incorrect. (at least for me.) Just tested.. all 4 of my cores are being used by Dayz You have a problem. I'm getting 40-60 fps and my GPU is running at 99% usage and 80% GFX memory on my GTX480
-
You are correct. What I meant by 'this', was the fact that on the Arma engine the CPU is just if not more important than the GPU. His CPU is clearly not shit but OP seemingly assumes (as many do) that its mainly about the GFX card. Obviously you can't just cherry pick individual components, having a good HD, mobo & RAM will all affect this. Anyone who is having issues and suspects a bottleneck should use this application to test. http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ Below is a SS of a test I ran on another game.
-
This. I'm running a i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz and a GTX480 and get 30-60 fps. Outside cities its normally 50-60fps. All settings High or Very High.

Disconnecting While Unconscious Shouldn't Kill You!
-MadTommy replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
Maybe you need to read.. server restarts are not treated the same as a player disconnecting. You are not killed. I love being in the minority.. my PC never crashes nor has Dayz ever done this.. :) -
Disconnecting While Unconscious Shouldn't Kill You!
-MadTommy replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
I fail to see how bleeding or not should make any difference. Server restarts are not counted as disconnecting. I've experienced this, as mentioned above. So that just leaves internet dropped connection. Are you really saying the game should see design changes for these rare occasions? How many times do you expect to be unconscious when you internet drops? Sounds incredibly rare to me. -
Does anyone know if the close proximity of the spawn locations on the east coast is by design or temporary wip? Thanks

Clustered spawns on east coast by design or wip?
-MadTommy replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
Thanks. -
Don't think there are any spawns in Cherno.. so i assume it is Electro. From there, head north to explore the world, there is no right or wrong place to go. Unless you only want to play death match style and therefore you should stay in Electro.

...don't run around! So many players simply seem to sprint from loot spot to loot spot, as if the game is a loot collection game only. My advise is to play on the highest population servers possible, explore the map, move from cover to cover and learn from experience. The game is really pointless in its present state on low population servers.. its far too easy to get your gear and you don't learn or have fun without player interactions. And get away from the coast..
-
Whilst i agree it is a good route it is also a well trodden one. Gear is getting better dispersed now.. you can get good gear without visiting any of the military hotspots. Personally I think the best route to get gear is the least trodden.

A clearer description will likely give a better answer. Its very hard to know what happened from your very basic explanation.

Realistic (SweetFX) lighting preset for Standalone.
-MadTommy replied to Intactus's topic in General Discussion
FFS how the hell can you get into such pathetic arguments over a bloody post processing plugin. Just wow. Sweetfx is a great little plugin, minimal fps hit, if any, very customisable, no issues with battle-eye or VAC.. Highly recommended. -
I seemed to have missed where you actually tell us the problem you are actually having. Or would you prefer we guess? I've solely been playing on experimental build (3 or so weeks) and have not had any issues that are not in the stable version.

Detailed Information Summary From Rocket's Eurogamer Live Stream
-MadTommy replied to iBane's topic in General Discussion
Thanks.. tried watching it, but damn it was dull, disjointed and just poor. Why the need to play while having an interview is beyond me. -
I hate carrying two primaries... really hinders fireaxing zombies.
