Brightness settings at night ruining this game!

It doesn't matter what they do as far as limiting settings. People can just run the game in windowed mode, and through their Gfx card control panel, set desktop gamma to the same/greater effect. -
I've tested it at something like 15m and about 50m with regards to zombies, shooting in their direction they always came at me. Condition worn I think. The sound itself is the same whether silenced or unsilenced.

Yes, a shorter cycle would be ideal. Its a joke that the only time I can play Dayz my low ping options are all nighttime. There's nothing 'hardcore' about that, its just bad design.

If I had a dollar every time I heard somebody use the word "potential" with regards to a video game... I'd have a lot of dollars. Everybody is in the passionate lustful state of this relationship. Ask again in 3 months. Having said that, its certainly got potential. :lol:

Flare gun Medival russian melee weapons at the castles/surroudning (could have rus clothing/armors too) macgyver type crafting recipies - use the flashlight and a shotgun shell in some kind of makeshift cannon, flamethrower, etc... Chainsaw

Yes the gear can get messed up if you riddle them with bullets. I've successfully gotten 2 somewhat geared players to F2 surrender to me and drop their gear before shooting them in the face. This way gives you the best chances at getting good condition stuff. -
Are There Only 3 Guns On 1st Release?

Quite positive there are only 3 guns: Mosin, M4 and FNH-FX9. There is ammo for .762, .45 and 12 gauge but no weapons. -
You can't do a 'real' borderless window, but by editing this file: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\DayZ\Dayz.cfg you can create a window that can stretch the borders of your monitor and almost create the same effect. You need to edit these following lines to suit your needs. The first two: winX and Y are offsets. I run 1920x1080 but have lower values here and some offset so that I see the startbar, you may do larger values to take up your entire screen. winX=9; winY=30; winW=1903; winH=1023; winDefW=1903; winDefH=1023; If you are playing 1920x1080 and want a simulated fullscreen borderless, you might try:

Thats true, but I think its a fair point about it being 18 months later and we have a product that in many ways resembles the first builds of the mod. Instead of building off of 18 months of support and development (including additional development of secondary mods by others), this SA feels like a "blank slate". Its not optimized much better if at all, and has far less features. I see new item art, new locations on the map, building interiors, an attempt at new zombie AI, but nothing that jumps out and screams "advancement". Ok its an alpha, fine I get it. Hopefully they get extremely aggressive about updating it, because if what we have today is the culmination of 18 months of work, it doesn't really amount to very much, at least IMO. (compared to the development of the mod and its submods, and how far they have come over the same period). /hopingforthebest -

I bought the alpha, I believe in the product and the team behind it, but get real. Alpha or not, this game is RAW, 2 steps forward, 1 step back from the mod. Critisism is much better than fanboy worship. -
I'm suprised people think the zombies in SA are better.... blindfolds on or something? Sure, the mod zombies don't have the smoothest of animations, but they are MINDLESS and AGGRESSIVE. Entering into a melee fight with a zombie in the mod would more than likely result in you getting hit at least once unless you got them just right. By contrast the SA zombies are slow and drugged, and you can completely circle straff them without incident if you are careful. They don't drop loot and they dissappear instantly. Not to mention the zombies in SA are a very rare sight comparatively. I look forward to seeing them fleshed out much more and become a proper threat. Currently they are more of a joke/minor annoyance than they were in the mod... and thats saying something.

You need a cooking pot to put on top of the flame. Then you add water and you can boil rice. -
A very important point. People are often saying "If you don't like xyz mod, don't play it! Don't play on that server if you don't like abc rules/additions!". The fact is, those servers suck up a portion of the playerbase and segregate the player pool.

I just hope that the rate of development exponentially increases now that it is released to the public.

Its not all or nothing, and its not like you are a leet-dood for liking night, and the others are scrubs for wanting 24/7 day. 24 hour day just happens to be a very easy bandaid fix. The fact that the cycle in DayZ is 24 hours realtime is the problem. I think most people would be agreeable to some middleground system where it was a few hours of day followed by a few night, etc... Not 12 and 12 for God's sake. I work 9am-5pm. That means every time I play DayZ its night. THAT isn't fun.

I dono about immersive. It kinda defeats the purpose of them hiding loot in nooks and crannies if you can have it just automatically pop up.

Even full moon nights and such "bright night" mods as you can play on the mod still warrant the usage of gamma-jacking, just lessens the benefit of it. At the same time, these "bright nights" reduce the utility of the very things that make night fun - flares, chemlites, flashlights, etc... Its pretty much a loose-loose. Even if they disabled in-game gamma, you can still run the game windowed and use the Nvidia control panel to jack gamma. All you gotta do is run around aimlessly with your inventory screen open and watch things pop in and out of your vicinity column.

Server restart loot is a pretty bad system, it basically just encourages everyone to server hop. And yes, server hoping DOES work. I've hoped at green mountain at about 10 servers and have pretty much an endgame kit with 20 minuets invested. M4, scope, 100's of bullets.

Icon system is much cleaner. Text prompts are pretty intrusive, even if they happened less often, the icons just seem to be much better at displaying incremental changes with the shading, or the icons getting less filled, etc...
