How does this game compare so far?
Grumpy Monkey replied to BothGunsBlazing's topic in General Discussion
O lord... My crystal ball says graveyard. Yeah, like the poster above said, 90% of the games gets better when it goes eventually into beta and release, so I hope it will improve for you mate. -
O well they took an extra year to develop it further so a couple of extra Euro's/Dollars is only reasonable. Devs need to eat aswell.

Will the SA Ever Feel like This?
Grumpy Monkey replied to OhDan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is exactly the reason why I only played the mod every once in a while to see what they did with it. I always had the idea to keep the mod on the backburner until SA comes out. It's alright though, Arma 2 and Arma 3 keeps me entertained until the release. The thought that SA might take a while was a good assessment at the time and quite frankly I'm glad I made the descission the hold off a bit for the time being, not realizing it would take this long though. Again I'm not complaining because Arma 2 and 3 are great and once every while ill pop on a DayZ server to check stuff out and try to sneak up some *pop* sounds in the distance for some giggles. B) -
It looks better then I expected. Pretty awesome.

Why is DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"?
Grumpy Monkey replied to tsandrey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Does it realy matter what it is called? I guess they stuck to the alpha name because it says a couple of things. 1: It still hasn't got all the features that will be included into the release version (stand alone). 2: It has got bugs/performance issues in it that will be ironed out in the release version. 3: To make a clear distinction between the Standalone and the Mod. If they would call it a Beta that might confuse people to think that it is the test version of the Release version (standalone). -
DayZ Developer Blog 8th March
Grumpy Monkey replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
If the game is good then the people will come. I'm not even slightly worried. To me it seems they know what they are doing and taking time to make sure things will be (within reason) fine at launch is excellent. There is one lesson that The WarZ (and other games with a shakey launch) taught is that when you mock up your release its a very very bad situation to recover from. Taking time and making sure the core elements are implemented correctly is the best thing the team can do, even if it takes a little bit longer then expected. -
Yeah I had bug #1 a day or two ago. Rifle to backpack and poof... it's gone. O well, minor inconvenience. ;) In some video i heard Rocket say that the zombies zigzag due to the fact that they use the same AI as the soldiers of Arma 2 (makes sense to me) and that they gonna change it for that standalone.

Thinking of buying ARMA II just for this game. Few ?s
Grumpy Monkey replied to varack's topic in New Player Discussion
To be honest, I made the same mistake. I didn't get DayZ for what it was the first day or two. After that the penny dropped and I realized its all about survival and not about killing zombies. Sure it's part of the survival aspect, but it's not the core gameplay. The thrill when you meet players in the world is realy cool aswell. Can I trust you, or will you just take my beans when I turn my back at you. It's kinda like the mindset of the Walking Dead (not the game, the TV Series). Who can i trust, and who i can't. It's great. If you expect something like Battlefield or L4D, you're gonna be disappointed and you should look elsewhere for a game that fills that need. Something like Dead Island might be better for you then (It's singleplayer and CO-OP though). -
New DayZ Player here...quick question
Grumpy Monkey replied to cassc's topic in New Player Discussion
Huh? Wrong topic? :D -
Oh noes! The Zombies turned the football goal the other way around! I can't wait to make them pay for that! On a more serious note: Looking good. :)

DayZ Devblog 4th February 2013
Grumpy Monkey replied to griffinz's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Looks great indeed. Thanks for the blog! -
Welcome. Yeah as a fellow new player all i can tell (as for now, lack experiance still aswell) don't go into this game with the mindset to shoot up zombies. I made this mistake in the beginning. The game is about survival at any cost. This means only use your weapon as a last resort. Its better to be stealthy and avoid conflict as much as possible. Shooting zombies will attract other zombies and more importantly... other players that are out to steal your precious can of beans. That is... if you choose the survivor path. If you go and play as a bandit, roaming the big cities for kills and good loot, be aware that this part of the game is very competative and be prepared to not get too attached to gear, and die a lot especially when you just started to play this mod. Again i lack experiance due to the fact that im in this mod of a couple of days, but thats my experiance so far. Edit: Oh and btw. Use this map, its been a ton of help for me so far. http://dayzdb.com/map#3.042.116

Have fun mate. Lucky you got a friend to play with. Im sure that will help you a bit when facing the learning curve. Im new aswell and at the beginning i had some problems facing the mean world of DayZ as a lone wolf. If thats the case with you (and your friend) dont be demotivated, because learning your way around the game will pay off and you and your friend will have a lot of fun. There are some realy nice surprizes waiting for you. If you see a player called Grumpy Monkey in the countryside 9 times of out 10 he will be friendly unless you sneak up on him with a AK47 or such. :D Maybe see you in the game and have fun.

DayZ Maintenance ~ Should be functional again
Grumpy Monkey replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Yeah dont log in. ATM they are mocking us on the UK 22 server with music spam and threats of stealing our stuff in something called "the despawn forest" whatever that is. :( Eventually they'll get tired of it i guess. -
Getting into the DayZ Fandom, wanting advice!
Grumpy Monkey replied to Totalityclause's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, i have combined operations (which includes Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation arrowhead) and thats what you need aswell in order to play the mod. The mod (DayZ) itself is free. If it goes on sale soon? I dunno mate. I got Combined operations for years now so i didnt take notice of sales for that Arma 2 pack. -
As a new player, This mod is so difficult its un-playable.
Grumpy Monkey replied to HamHamm's topic in New Player Discussion
Im new aswell to the mod since two days now. Ive played the Arma II games before though. - First day. *spawn* Where the hell am i, where is my map? *check inventory*What the.... where is my gun?! Hmm oh I see a building over there, hey ho lets go! *blaaghhh* (friendly zombie greet) O hai mister zombie, there is no need for violence. Oh I guess there is..., leg it! *Bled to death* *respawn* Right... lets do it a bit better this time. *sneak, sneak* Oh i found a hatchet NEAT! *blaaagh* O hai mister zombie, what the..?! I need to reload?! the hatchet first? *Chop chop, zombie dead* Right... lets find a gun! O hai mister survivor, can you tell me how to..... *pop in the head* *respawn* Right.. lets get into town again to find that gun... oh crap... another player. Hopefully this one is less psyc *pop, pop*..... sigh....i knew it... (before i called it quits this happend a couple of times more) Day 2 *respawn* right... towns are bad mkay, i gotta find a good place to find me some gear. *google, ah so deer stands are the good places to find, right!* -Deer stand 1. Sweet! loads of ammo, this is useful. Lets find another! -Deer stand 2. Crap... empty cans. -Deer stand 3. More ammo, yay! -Deer stand 4. More ammo... erm i cant carry all of this... lets guess which gun im hopefully gonna find. -Deer stand 5. Bandages and yet more ammo. Crap, im doing something wrong. *google, AHA! Barns, lets find em* -Barn 1. Damn 3 Zombies are inside. No Hatchet in my inventory. Lets try and find another one. -Barn 2. Ah! a Hatchet again, better then nothing right? O hai mister player.. *pop, pop in the head* *respawn* Basicly the same as above happend but thankfully i didnt encounter a player untill i got very desperate trying to find a drink and food (both where red at that point) so i kinda stormed into town and got poped in the head by a sniper on the roof. *respawn* *walk, sneak, walk* Hey! an airfield! lets take a look in that control tower. Wow a M4! Lets get the hell outta here before i get popped in the head again! Yay im out now lets find some food and drinks! After a hour of sneaking and walking around i got desparate again and went into the big town found plenty of drinks and just in the right moment a can of beans. At that time the indicator was blinking so i ate it where i found it. *Oh no.... i hear machinegun fire in the distance... lets get the hell outta here (heart pounding like crazy). *Makes it to the woods, and thats where i called it a day and logged out. So yeah... right at the point when i started to no give a crap about the game tbh i finally had a good run. I realy started to think this game is impossible to play on your own, and started to feel very demotivated. Im sure i will get popped in the head plenty times more but from the last experiance i feel motivated again to continue to learn this game, thankfully. I do like the whole idea behind DayZ. Not starting with a gun is a bit brutal because there are times that you are very unlucky and not find a single gun or melee weapon for many hours. But when you do though its a big reward. I heard (in a video with the mod maker) that one of the reasons behind not having a weapon is that the Rocket hoped that that way peeps would work together a bit more. I didnt experiance that in one bit. I think that peeps are so afraid that when they finally find a weapon the gonna shoot you because theyre afraid that you will take thier gear. Or just for the lulz ofc. Here is the video where he explains why Rocket removed the guns. (at 19 minutes 10 seconds)
