Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
dimak415 replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
This is exactly why allowing players to host is not helpful in the development of the game. Many, not all, hosters care more about their precious camps than about moving the game forward. Twice now, because of an unwillingness to update due to loss of loots, I have updated and the server I play on has not. It is not uncommon since the release of choppers to see hosters locking servers with 4-8 players on it and then days later announcing that they were "working on the server and testing the update". Me and my friends always update to the latest everything. We have a chopper now, a UAZ, all sorts of guns and awesome loot. It will disappear. It will get stolen, wiped, trashed, bug out, flip over, delete. I have accepted that as a player, if you haven't as a hoster of an ALPHA MOD, you have no business hosting. I say its time to warn hosters that don't update after a week or so and blacklist there after. The most upsetting thing is that we have been trying to host a server for a month, we are active in the community and one of our members owns www.hostedgameservers.com which already has Arma 2 severs hosted, but for some reason we are getting no love. Again, I appreciate hosters that update, and warn of restarts and provide input to the community, and I know that that is the majority, but holy hell did the above post piss me off. -
Not sure if this has been suggested before but on multiple occasions, I thought it would be awesome if i could put up a sign (on a tree or post) or leave a piece of paper that I could put on loot piles. I can think of so many cool uses - leave a ransom note at someones camp when I steal their vehicle - leave a note in my tent warning thieves of the terrible horrors they will face for raiding my camp - leave notes for new spawns in cherno and elektro telling them where to meet me then do as you will with them - coordinate meetings points for new spawns - coordinate a bus rescue and/or masacre for new spawns by leaving notes in cherno and elekto - leave angry notes at notorious newb sniper locations - set traps - leave a note at NEAF in the radio tower that says "I'm watching you" - the possibilities are endless and hilarity would ensue Not sure if the game mechanics allow for this, but I think it would be awesome. So that it doesn't become a frickin' parade of notes, maybe limit players to 1 and have it expire every 24 hours or so. It would require some thought and ingenuity but would allow for some in game comm other than direct chat. To prevent fresh spawn from littering cherno and elektro with notes, maybe make them require paper and a pencil as tools. What do you guys think?

Same deal. Logged back in on a different server (after a crash on the original glitchy one) and everything is A OK. Must be server side.
-
I guess I have to retract this... after 5 hours of gameplay I am getting artifacting at Berezino tents. Its pretty terrible. Unplayable for sure. I can see what you guys are talking about. GTX 680 here on latest Beta and Dayz ver.

Perhaps instead of bitching about glitches, describe your system so they can fix it... "omg glitches every where, this game sux" "worst update ever" *not helpful* asus blah blah blah i7 2700k blah blah 16gb Ram VIDEO CARD *helpful* I have not recieved any issues with graphics glitches on the following system: Asus p6t deluxe v2 990x @ 4.41ghz 24 GB G skill 1600mhz Ram EVGA GTX 680 OC Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Launching with Day Z commander 10.7.2.4 & 3 Betas - 95393 95417 95312 In fact, everything has run mouch more sloothly on my end except for a few stuttering zombies here and there. Overall, less hackers, better sync, no lost items or vehicles, better gameplay, more challenging zombies - all positive. A FEW HOURS LATER - GLITCHES AT BEREZINO TENTS :( CONFIRMED ON BOTH ATI AND NVIDIA. LOGGING OUT AND BACK IN ON DIFFERENT SERVER RESOLVES ISSUE

I would also like to point out that in the last week or so, neither I nor any of my party members have encountered a hacker. Good job Rocket and good job Bohemia! Luff you guys!

In regards to some zombies agroing and others not, it is dependent on if they are facing you.
-
I have no idea what "huge issues" people are talking about...

95417 and 10.7.2.4 Noticed some of the choppiness people have described, but in terms of overall gameplay a big improvement. I now think twice about unloading in towns. I've almost gotten killed twice by zombies for once. Fewer desyncs and lag problems. No negative affect on tents or vehicles either (no wipes and all inventory there). We even found a ghille and swapped it between a few players. Everything works great except the FPS issues, which were minimal and happened few and far in between. Great job guys! I suppose I should mention I haven't played in heavily populated areas like cherno and elektro. We did drive an ATV into Berenzino though to get some med supplies and encountered some hostiles. again, everything was looking pretty smooth.

Zombies are deadlier which is great. I think for the first time, my ammo wasn't all at 100%, but I could be mistaken. Frame rates have improved. Zombie and loot spawns seem more consistent. I have noticed that if you wipe out a group of them, they will respawn rather quickly. Obviously, the gamespy thing is preventing me from playing on servers with my buds, and I don't feel like running from our camp to anywhere exciting with out them. Hope they fix that soon.

Late to the party I guess :/

Show me oh wise finder of things :)

Dude... have you ever played against the AI in arma? 4 or 5 guys! Good luck...
-
I did... notes, signs, messages. Everything on page was irrelevant so I assumed no one had posted it.

A few guys from across the planet Earth came together with a brilliant idea. They modded a war simulator into a zombie survival simulator and it took off. Nearly 1 million unique players across the globe, bolstering sales of the base game and bringing in mad money for the developers. Despite its bugs and hackers, hundreds of thousands of people came back to loot, shoot and scoot around on bicycles day after day. Its been a few months, and if anything has come out of this test is that Rocket and (maybe) Bohemia are sitting on a gold mine. So what now? People have already paid for Arma II and OA, proof that people are willing to spend money on this form of entertainment. Bohemia is hard at work on its next iteration of war simulator whose sales were never THAT great. It was never a blip on many player's radars. Rocket and his team are hard at work tackling the issues of creating a game of this scope, from dealing with hackers to programming and maintaining Hive servers. What we know. - Arma II will probably not sufficiently provide the ground work for Rocket's vision. We are pretty much nearing the peak of its feature set. - It is unlikely that Arma III will either. - Going standalone is very expensive. - The game is fun, unique, immersive... the game is awesome (in theory). Whats next? There are a few ways to go about it, and I'm sure Rocket and his team are dedicating a huge chunk of their time to figuring out how best to monotize while providing a sweet gaming experience for us all (as those kind of go hand in hand). I'm sure offers have been sent out to Rocket and his team. Maybe even from Bohemia, maybe not, who knows? I think we can all agree that the Arma III engine can provide a good starting point for a real standalone game as we now have a feel for it. Though it can be clunky and glitchy, this is nothing good coding can't fix. But purchasing the rights to the engine is expensive as ballz. Even if you worked for the guys who made it. And even if they have already profited from YOUR ALPHA. I think its about time Bohemia and Rocket worked more closely together to get this ship out of port. It would be nice to see some kind of dialogue between them (I want to know about it if it's already happened) I mean, we can't sit around and wait for updates to a mod every 2-3 weeks thinking the final product will ever be, well, final. Plus, who is going to feed and clothe Rocket and his team? I say take my $15-$25 dollars now, raise some cash, hire some more people, fix things and lets get to a final product before 2015. Natural Selection II did it. I preordered their game because I love NS1. That hails in comparison to DayZ. Even if only half us pay, that enough to do a TON of work on this game and get it that much closer to done. Thats something like 6 or 7 million dollars at 20 bucks a pop. Thats enough for the dev team to live and work on this game for a long time. I work in the music industry and fan funding is becoming HUGE. Recently an artist raised more than a million dollars for 1 record. Same thing applies here. There is no risk. You've already tested your product. We love it. If it were better, we as a community and maybe 10 times more of us would love it even more. Anyways, I appreciate your vision, tenacity and desire to keep your vision your own. I appreciate the countless hours of enjoyment your game brings me and my posse (though my girlfriend doesn't). I think you guys are doing a stellar job, but perhaps, at the rate you are growing, and the rate at which the community is demanding fixes and features, you need some capital and more people. Best of luck, A true DayZ fan, Dima

I just listened to the latest interview with Rocket on the news feed. It's cleared up a lot about how I feel about this matter. Bohemia is working much more closely with Rocket than I thought. Apparently, the CEO of Bohemia was the motion capture guy :) That's awesome. I suppose my thread was written due to frustration regarding the lack of anything, well, official. That's a word you don't hear when building a mod, nothing is really "official". In any case, I'm still enjoying the game play very much. I've noticed a huge reduction in the cheaters and scripts run in servers. I left my notes on the 10.7.2.3 post regarding new bugs and issues. We all have our opinions and suggestions and mine stemmed from a growing impatience. We all want things now. Standalone now. Zombies fixed now. Helicopters now. But now I realize that this is going to be a long term project that will evolve into a masterpiece.

I have noticed thay my buddies still see the pack. They can click on it and view the contents and even pick it up. But I can't see it or munipulate it. The workaround for me is this. If I see a pack I want I: - Open the pack - Open my pack in the inventory - Throw everything from my pack into the new one - Double check I did everything right - Exit gear menu and click "pick up pack" Of course, this doesn't fix the pack disappearing.

This /\ I have never had to change servers more than once. I have found 3 great servers and stick to them. I don't see where people are getting all of this mumbo jumbo. None of the servers display the correct times anymore, and neither does DayZ Commander, but I know which of the three I have chosen as favorites are the proper server time for when I play. People are impatient. I have a feeling a lot of these people are hopping servers when good loot doesn't spawn, or are DCing to find better loot. I'm glad the devs are monitoring it, I guess we will see soon enough why people hop around so much.

Trying my best to ignore the trolls who post hundreds of replies on a forum for a game they don't like... mind boggling. ANYWAYS. Removing the respawn button adds a level of difficulty to the game., but it also adds a lot of boring running to it. I suppose the some of the appeal of the game is that you must always be on your guard, that said, running through the woods is really boring BUT there are ways to fix this. I had 2 ideas. Making running through the woods dangerous and fun. 1. Adding big hordes of zombies in non populated areas like the woods would make running around more interesting. It would mean when other players engage these zombies, we could hear them, and go investigate. I feel like I'm only actually playing the game when I'm looting or in high pop areas. Everything in between is running cautiously through the woods and occasionally eating an animal. Also, it would mean there is a point in securing camps. Imagine you're at your camp and you see a horde of 20 zombies slowly creeping towards it. Having defensive barriers (that function) and wiping out the Zs would be fun and challenging. There is no PVE element once you get to a certain point, so we need more challenges and adding Zs would facilitate that need. Less running? 2. Give players the ability to choose where they spawn on the coast. Not the biggest fan of this idea, but it would prevent people from blowing up the Hive with death and new character spawns + eliminate a lot of unnecessary running around. I get it... technically there is no "unnecessary" running around, but it does get quiet dull. I think I've only encountered other players, the only real threat in the wilderness, 4 or 5 times in my 6+ weeks of playing this game. I play on crowded daytime servers too. I prefer adding more Zs. I know its not easy, but it would be freakin awesome to run into massive hordes just strolling the woods every once in a while. It would add a whole new challenge. I heard something about dogs as well, that would be amazing. Imagine scoping out Stary from the northern tress and suddenly hearing a big pack of dogs in the distance. Leads to an interesting decision. Fight and make noise, or go into Stary and hide. Your thoughts?

Lots of awesome points here, but lets get one thing straight. Arma II, a finished Bohemia product, is a cool game, but not THAT polished and clean. Its not that I don't have faith. It's not that I think that Rocket and Bohemia CANT do it. And I am certainly not saying throw money at it and fix it. BUT, I'm sure Bohemia and Rocket have inboxes full of resumes. I'm sure they could reach out to amazing coders and designers and get help. The Hive needs work. The entire infrastructure needs work, and maybe, just maybe, a game of this scope is too much for a small developer like Bohemia to handle on their own. I hope they don't take that the wrong way... I believe in them, but would hiring extremely qualified people to help them get a "final"ish product sooner be such a bad thing? Maybe I'm just impatient want it now... lol. PS. What the fudge is "War Z"?..
-
AKM does more damage by a good 50 percent and has more range, though it is harder to hit anything passed 300m
-
Props to Bohemia for working with Rocket on this btw.
-
A decent job, sure. But again, they are sitting on a gold mine. Why not bump that decent job up to "excellent job" with some fan funding, and make some extra profit to boot? I'm simply stating that I am willing to pay for a better product that is delivered faster. I think many people agree with me. In terms of thwarting off hackers, I'm not sure its working. Killed one last night, only to get killed by the same one 3 min later. Ghille and AS50, no bag on the body, couldnt loot it or hide it. What the fudge? Why is it black? lol Has anyone noticed when you bold things in the forum it acts super erratically and the cursor jumps around?

Thats kind of the point. Why the hell not? more than 700% increase in sales due to this mod. I understand that the "netcode" is full of jargon based on the coding of the game, but it would be nice to know what "Fixed: terrainIntersect reverted to ATL" means, and how this affects the game. Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I'd like get a better understanding of the partnership between Rocket and Bohemia. Thats all
