Same happens to me sometimes, very annoying. ._. I'm sure it's a bug, and I hope it'll be fixed soon. I find it happening after I've gone out of shock, play for about 10 minutes or so, and then log off (only to find myself unconscious upon re-log). I think you are still in shock, just the the icon of it isn't showing.

When you get in fire fights, witness helicopter or vehicle crashes, really anything that gets your adrenaline going.

Hey all, my alias is Wumbro. I've been playing DayZ for about a month now, and I've learned a lot from it. I tend to play with a group of friends raning from 3 - 7 people (including myself). I'm loving this game thus far and will continue to play it! :)
