Haven't played in a while, what's new?
Quaby replied to WSuhr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As far as the core game is concerned, its just as fucked as its always been. Except teh UI is different and there is no L85. Doors still kill you, watch out :D -
For number two, this is an important rule to live by-if someone has a gun to you head, do whatever the fuck he tells you I prefer to avoid people, and the unarmed little bambi is walking :D

Proof that Standalone will be delayed till 2013?
Quaby replied to TheThinkTanker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly, ArmA 2 could have done with an extra several months of troubleshooting, so for me a june-ish release would be nic because it wouldnt be so broken and I could have some time to do HoTS and only HoTS -
I'm gonna bet its going to take awhile, so I've been getting back into the groove of my 4 gate blink stalkers into expand for HoTS, because it may actually work when its released unlike every BIS game ever released ...:(

All great journeys begin with a single step, and this has been one helluva journey. DayZMod started as a backyard garage experiment by some unknown New Zealander, and from these simple roots the revolutionary new idea of zombie survival blossoms. I would like to start this farewell to DayZMod as we know it with a short history... It started as a simple project, which I believe was released accidentally. At first glance, the idea of a brutal zombie survival mod seemed unorthodox and unlikely to succeed, but many people found it to be a relaxing change of pace. It slowly grew and grew, evolving and changing, until it booms forth with hundreds of thousands of gamers buying ArmA II for DayZ. It swiftly broke the one million mark, and then plateaued off approximately one month later. Public interest in the direction of the amazingly successful mod was huge, and finally, as all were hoping, the standalone was confirmed. Now we sit in the lull of development, playing the good old mod, listening carefully for all news of the SA. I would like to share my story about how I came to play DayZ, and how I got drawn into this unique community. Being an avid fan of RoosterTeeth, my brother showed me their video presenting the mod. I was somewhat interested, but he seemed really pumped. After we finally got ArmA II CO, we slugged through four hours of installation, and then my brother played it...for awhile...he got done, then I gave it a whirl. I got frustrated at first, but the I figured out the groove rather quickly, and looked up some maps to get a feel for the geography. Soon, I had memorized many strategies and items, and made my first trek to the NWA with two of my friends who I introduced the mod to. The suspense was amazing to me, as I struggled to protect my friends as we fought off player after player. I ultimately failed, but it was still amazing. My brother soon stopped playing it because he gets easily frustrated with games in general, so I got it all to myself, having a myriad number of amazing experiences, trying out the new maps, and having all sorts of adventures and misadventures. I came to the forums as many people did, angry about a feature, but then I started just browsing it, and began placing my input into the forums freely and with glee. I always thought of myself as a bridge between casual and hardcore, since I don't play that often, but sometimes I get into it. No, I am not a hipster, and I did come out of the forum gates whining, and my experience was probably Pretty standard among many, but I still find it exhilarating to be able to say, when people are playing this game two years from now, that I slugged through it, made my voice heard, and shaped DayZ as it will become. I will take a short siesta from the forums, checking every now and again, still holding my ear to Rockets lips, but this is my goodbye to DayZ for a bit at least. Maybe post your starting experiences too? I would like to see how the people with 2k+ posts got Into this great project :D See Y'all on the Fields of Cherna'+! In game name-Quab or LBX Quab See me, give me a shout if you know me from this fine forum, and you will not leave my company hungry or without 12k blood. Especially true to the user L0Gin, who I would like to personally thank for giving me a gateway to jump into discussion. I would also like to tell Login. Hat his medical compilation thread was mentioned by Dean specifically, so you especially shaped this mod:be proud!!!! See Y'all on the Fields of Cherna'+! Quaby (A goodbye to the forums without bitching? Does this even happen anymore?) (Got all deep again, need to shower and purify myself, *sigh*)

It's nearing the closing bell, my friends
Quaby replied to Quaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That was the idea! :D :( -
The funny thing is, the older people I play with are losers cause lots of them play this way too much, but the kid I kno who is twelve is an angel :D Also, not many stereotypical cod kids play this....why? 1. It's a PC game, most COD people own only consoles and crap computers, like my cheapo desktop that barely runs it on very low 2. It's buggy, and they probably have a low tolerance 3. The game is complicated and hard, which is not cool with your cod fan So don't say cod kid, they aren't ALL like that(even if they are the majority :D), and the ones that are probably dont play this mod, say asshat:it encompasses everything!!!

It's alright; it is strikingly interesting that the loot cycle is reversed from ole Cherna, with people gathering weapons and heading to Vorkuta or the hospitals as opposed to people gathering food and meds and whatnot and heading to NWA. Still, little overkill with the military spawns. It kinda reminds me of Fallujah, which I thought was god awful because it had twelve barracks right next to each other and a city, with a pointlessly large wilderness.

Controller Support in Standalone
Quaby replied to Rileybrown2's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can use a corded Xbox controller, and there are enough buttons for the major functions, but it can be awkward with movement in ArmA. It works well with flight, but not so much with aiming and movement in the infantry. If you use Xmapper, it's pretty easy to map the controls. Feel free to give it a whirl, but it involves a lot of trial and error figuring out sensitivity and button configs you find best. -
After trottin on to stary on a random private hive, I begin to hear a bit of chatter on direct chat. I hit the floor quickly and started looking around. I listened closely, and heard them arguing about something not shooting and not working. I looked around and spotted, to my surprise, a SCUD launcher. One of the two was running around the launcher in circles, the other was in the driving seat. After listening to them argue back and forth about how to fire the nuke at cherno, it finally blasts off, to god-knows-where, and probably not their intended target of Chernogorsk. Remember kids, play ArmA so that when you prep to nuke Chernogorsk, you do it right :D
-
Well, still, play ArmA so you know it doesnt do anything :D It had an arty computer on ArmA though, and I have seen vids of people firing nuke launchers, so idk

A snazzy way to throw in a bit more realism and to incorporate electric items! In Cars -all cars start with a old, almost used up battery -can be replaced with or without a toolbox -medium rarity-about the same as a car wheel? For items -can be rigged to a lighting system to light up a town for a time maybe? -can be jury-rigged in a base as a low-level power source, higher level would be gas generators or wind or solar power -radios and maybe computer journals and whatnot. Also, something cool you could do and maybe give a goal besides uber l33t lewtz... -rig up enough batteries to an old ATC tower and power up the computers -can take computers to your base to keep as a souvenir -contain data on what happened during/after outbreak -also contains coordinatess of old bunkers(one per repaired computer?)that can be occupied and turned into a potentially improved base I THINK this is original, I browsed the first few pages on searching for car batteries, so don't tell me to use the search engine if it has been said, I TRIED!! :D

"Zombie Logging" What's your take?
Quaby replied to -Guardian-'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Theoretically, say you got cornered by a mob of zombies(the proper term for a herd of zombies is an "orgy", but whatever), which would have killed you if you didnt relog, and then you shoot someone. Therefore, you avoided death to then deal it out. Glaringly similar to Alt+f4 :D -
I see you cant alt-f4 or exit anymore. Does that mean hacking has been dealt with?
Quaby replied to Mr Radar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can still abort even when the timer is on if you click it before it disappears, same with respawning.... Rocket releasing a patch that actually does what it is supposed to? Bitch, please.....:D:D:D -
Tired of DayZ? Not playing ArmA II anymore because of DayZ? Money wasted?
Quaby replied to privatewolf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My only beef with ArmA is how fucking hilarious it is in spots....so unpolished and hard to believe, really took away from the great concept and fair gameplay...and I did play it a good bit, and played the Namalsk Crisis mod, which was scary as hell. AND, life mods are hilarious :D -
I have found 3 m24s, one I lost in a reset, and another I died with. AND the private hive I had the 3rd one on shut down :( Found it quite often, never shot it tho.

Only time i ever got the AT4 I just walked outside, blew the ATC tower to hell, and giggled.

Bring back the debug menu! or at least another way to find out my humanity!
Quaby replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
*sigh* I want it back because I like the number so I can measure my blood a bit easier while eating to heal or deciding whether I'm worth wasting a bloodbag on...just a bit more convenient, I wouldnt call that an advantage -
Bring back the debug menu! or at least another way to find out my humanity!
Quaby replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The debug monitor confers no advantage aside from having a numerical value for your health,..This is the suggestions section, so I shall suggest. Its like third person-even if it conveys a tiny advantage(which the debug monitor really doesn't), everyone can do it. And DayZ isn't real life, hate to break it to you :D -
Couldn't play because I was spending the past week living in a real life Chernarus
Quaby replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Please, it wasn't Chernarus if you aren't killed by hackers, cows aren't parachuting, and doors aren't lethal :D -
Dont waste characters, say... "I found an AKM and a bus with random shit in it. Yay fer me. Ima go eet a bagel now."

Bring back the debug menu! or at least another way to find out my humanity!
Quaby replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
People who are saying "it ruins immersion"...sitting at a computer not holding a weapon breaks immersion, not feeling pain as my character does, and not getting tired breaks immersion too. Its a computer game. I direct thee to my signature :D Also, having it as an option would be nice. What do you care if some people use it if you don't? -
BIS reputation for making clean, working games is what worries me. ArmA was glitchy as hell, and mods just made it worse, DayZ is downright hilarious in spots. I'm expecting it not to run 100% smoothly; how can you expect a rushed, based-off-a-mod game run better than a game they actually took their time on (ArmA 2)?

Online Debate: What is the Best PvP Gun in DayZ?
Quaby replied to DayZPvP.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is everything besides the AS50 and L85 shit? You almost never find those. Be realistic, AKM kicks ass and so does the M14. DMR has solid power and range. -
I've been hopping between the non-Chernarus maps for awhile due to Chernarus's bland, uninteresting environments and non-enterable buildings. I like Namalsk because of the desperation factor of only one hospital, and temp can actually be a factor. I like panthera even more because its pretty and hilly, a cool environment. I just got bored of ole Cherna, and got me a fresh place to bring hate and discontent to...
