Check the map, you're looking for the barracks. Use the binoculars to look for zombie spawns far away, they let you know if there are players nearby. Scout the treelines for snipers and move to the barracks from the woods, crouch-run in zig-zags when you're in open areas, prone when you're in the grass. Get in, get out. Don't recommend looting the airfield without a partner.

Moonlight in nights vary, sometimes it will be pitch black, sometimes it will be very playable. General rule, sleep during the night if you don't have chemlight or flares - They should be a common spawn, however.

Like what that guy said. Having popular youtubers looking at the mod brings more popularity, I like that. Just finished watching the video though, it was utter crap. Heavily disappointing, so they're spawning around with an admin teleporting them to eachother, giving them stuff and rezzing them. They missed what makes DayZ the game it is by a long shot. I do hope they make a proper LP.

I'm sorry for the bluntly obvious. But are we seriously arguing the justifications of a 'sniper'? If supporting/trashing the OP is what we're looking for here, shouldn't we be arguing on the very concept of a sniper, since that's what he defends his actions as? "I'm a sniper, that's it". How is this related in any meaningful way to stopping in the middle of a zombie apocalypse on top of a hill, overlooking a far away city, sniping random survivors that go there for supplies and not taking the time to loot once they're dead because all you are is a "sniper", looting them is not worth the risk. There is no enemy, there is no threat to be taken care of, there is no "high value target" unless your purpose is to pick up their gear and beans, which has been made clear: it's not. There is no class denomination like there is in other games. You are a survivor, not a "sniper", not a "medic", nothing. Your goal is shared with everyone else, to survive in a sandbox game. Possibly getting better and better gear to keep it interesting. To classify yourself out of context followed by claims of 'skill' in a sandbox game is a comment not worth replying to, much less to let it spark such a heated argument on the concepts of psychopathic murder. Shouldn't we focus on the productive things in this thread? As in, how to spot these psychopaths, how to avoid them.

We found a jeep out of gas. Parked near an industrial area, I looked for Jerry Cans while my partner stayed watching the vehicle with a sniper from afar. One hour later I'm coming back with two Jerry Cans, partner gets bored and Alt+Tabs to see a video on youtube, comes back to the game and the vehicle is gone. That topic reference. Hey, a little story for those who like to read them. Me and my partner were heading from the outskirts of Cherno to northeast in our Jeep, decided to go through the coast to find something to shoot at. Then likely camp a spot near Elektro and snipe everyone in the main road that has access to all the good stuff before continuing northeast [Current life murders: 53]. Stopped at the gas station west of Elektro to refuel. As we're cleaning the area my partner breaks a bone and shoots me trying to kill a zed at my 6, I shoot him thinking it was an attempted betrayal. Big bloody unbelievable mess. I start dragging his unconscious body to inside a building to avoid easy detection when a bus starts coming up in the main road half a mile away, I dump my unconscious partner in the field and run to the building for cover. The bus stops near my fully geared partner, no longer unconscious but still bleeding with a broken bone. The guy beeps a few times then carries on through the road ignoring him completely. As I scope out the bus I see a group of 4 players in the coast near the industrial area of Elektro, we get ourselves back up and on the jeep, ride to the hills overlooking the area and I get ready to snipe them. I've never sniped from that location, was unsure exactly what range they were in, my zeroing was way off and they were in constant movement. Missed 4 close shots and gave up, swapped weapons, got back on the Jeep and drove to them to introduce the M249. As I move towards them and reach Direct Comm range I hear the Americans talking. They panicked in voice chat when they saw the Jeep. I thought what the heck, easier kill if I just claim to be friendly. As I get out of the vehicle with my sniper lowered they are genuinely grateful over not being dead. Let's try giving this some context [Most of it can be wrong, this was all in voice chat and I don't remember half of it, this is what I recall]. Survivor 1: JEEP, JEEP Survivor 2: Run Survivor 3: Enemies? We just got shot. Survivor 2: Enemies. Survivor 4: FRIENDLY?! Survivor 3: This is not good. Me: Friendly. Survivor 2: I don't believe it, we just got shot. *Leave vehicle and lower weapon (2xCTRL)* Survivor 1: Sniper! Me: We are friendly. Feel free to loot the jeep for supplies. *Survivor 2 and 3 run to the jeep and notice our extreme amount of supplies* Survivor 2: Holy shit, so much stuff. After all these days killing every player in sight whether he has a chance to defend himself or not and getting several rare items resulting from the mindset. The thrill of the hunt, the kill, is enormous. It feels extremely good when there's so much to lose. The experience from taking someone else's life in this game is not comparable to any other, PvP is intense. No matter when if you spot a player or hear a gunshot your heart starts beating. The same reason that makes killing such an intense experience also applies to genuine gratitude. The feeling you get from it is intensified the same way. It's also harder, killing a player is easy, getting a player to trust you isn't. The challenge is greater and the feeling is better. For all you bandits out there still shooting against harmless players, you don't know what you're missing.

I'm divided with this thread, the concept of what he's doing sparks the realism argument in PvP to the point where he doesn't even loot the bodies because it's not safe, he kills for the kill count. It's pointless, it doesn't prove skill, it doesn't do anything other than waste mags (or not even that, as I bet one just RCs to regain the clip). This kind of playing shouldn't exist. However, it does. And he's absolutely right in how to survive it. So can we all just agree to despise the guy yet use the insight (even if obvious for some of us, clearly not for all) to avoid getting PK'd in populated areas? Someone make a survival thread against snipers with a better context, that would be a worthy post.

This thread shouldn't exist here, you sparked a pointless argument on the most annoying mechanic in the game. For all those defending the ban: I'm sorry, regardless of your thoughts on the subject and contrary to what so many imply and seem to do: hosting a server does not give you the right to make your own rules. We donate servers to the mod, we don't control how the game is played. This was made perfectly clear in every sticky in the Server General forum. Rocket has made it clear what he considers bannable offenses and DCWars ain't one, banning a player for DCing in a gunfight is grey area enough, or so we'd like to think. Appeal to your ban, you will get unbanned and serve a warning to a possible butthurt admin (can't judge him over a severely one-sided story).

What my clan members do is leave most of the gear in camp then go off solo as if it's a new character. They tend to either die and barely lose anything, or return to camp with a lot more supplies. Which we'll surely appreciate when we log back on. That said, I'm using 2 alt accounts, requires 3 OA CD Keys. Your character is tied to your CD Key. I'm doubting myself posting this as I'm unsure how legal it is. However, you can use an ArmA2 KeyChanger to quickly swap keys around when in need of switching characters. The alternative are private servers, they have their own database.

Sign me up for guard duty. Would be a nice event. Vote on the church as well, regular Direct Comm text messages from the edges warning players of imminent death if opening the doors before complying - this could be doable. Still leave the rare weapons and supplies in camp, just in case one of the "guards" dislikes the song or, who knows, thinks one of us looks funny.

It's not the "how" that's in question, it's the blacklisting bit. However, it was already addressed in this thread by Staff that it is strictly prohibited. We're still questioning it, that should mean something. More importantly, that reddit post - is it legit? So Rocket has admitted not to blacklist servers over it, which would make sense, it's such an innocent change. Essentially, this ordeal is the same as Portuguese abortion laws. You are strictly forbidden to do it. You suffer no consequences from doing it. But you can't do it.

Unfortunately it doesn't affect only the servers who don't follow the naming convention. Like HowIChrgeLazer pointed out, most servers that have been running for a good while will suffer from some sort of de-synch, time will be off. The host might not notice and it'll remain until the next restart.
