So should I be a bandit or a survivor?
VLG Castiel replied to stevi23's topic in New Player Discussion
Which? I'm confused. So this post isn't completely useless: I agree with everything stated here if it was said that there is no black and white. It's not choosing between being a carebear or a bandit at the start of a life, it's to do as the situation demands/what you think is right in accordance to it. -

Who's playing guitar in Cherno???
VLG Castiel replied to Siney's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Make sure you post the concert time and date here so I can murder him -
SHUT UP. HE'S SENSATIVE. YOU HEARTLESS MEANIES.

I missed the patch where the bandit heartbeat was implemented, sneaky little bastard. 1) Is it really implemented, or are we being paranoid? 2) Am I correct to assume that contrary to what it's being claimed, it is YOUR heart beating when you get close to me, not my guy's heart with 50ish murders? 3) Am I correct to assume the range (not only the volume) increases as humanity decreases? And I have to voice loudly against such a feature. A recent event made me consider being friendly more often, but the fact people can magically tell I'm a "bandit" without a shadow of doubt as the mechanic starts getting known, they'll shoot or run as the heartbeat is heard, the only friendlies left to find are those still ignorant or unaffected. Not much to do about this, makes me eager for another killing spree.
-
That is correct. Now let's find me 40 bandits to kill to gain back my humanity so I can be friendly again. /impossibru

If only a select few are able to, possibly wrong client versions. You should have a required beta build in your configs. -
http://dayzdb.com/map You're most likely having a streak of bad luck. Then again, 4 hours is not that long if we're crouch-walking/proning through the towns to avoid zombies. Keep searching. Every residential building has a small chance of spawning a sidearm. Every industrial building should have a relatively big chance of spawning a melee weapon.

More likely related to the abundance of survivors than the shortage of loot.
-
Far away from any place you want to be. Most places you want to be, others also want to be. Tends to be a bad idea to have a tent relatively close. You take quite a risk, many players will "walk a weird way". I assume you'll find yourself having a lot more luck once out-of-map camps are wiped.

How many good people do you meet before you get shot?
VLG Castiel replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
I've actually found roughly 15 friendlies this life. I may be having a streak of good luck, but when spotting a player I tend to constantly break LoS until we get a chance to talk through Direct Comm. From experience I'd say most people want to meet friendlies, they just "don't have the balls", I suppose it's often not worth the risk either. -
Don't think we'll be seeing these, considering the game already adds a good element of RPing by itself. However, the logical reaction to an apocalypse tends to be looking for other survivors, basic human nature. The means for survival in the current environment are not scarce enough to justify thoughtlessly shooting another human. If you're making your character's actions out to be as realistic and plausible as possible within the game context, RP servers should, in theory, be a lot more friendly.

How long do people live? Not noobs, I mean the average pro.
VLG Castiel replied to cragzeek's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Average life about 2 weeks, constantly looting big cities and military areas (with a group!). Save the odd life that ends in a few hours during the "nothing to lose" phase at each new spawn. -
Removing stuff off-map
VLG Castiel replied to WalkerDown (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd voice against a kill timer on invisible walls. My vote is on hiding the save option from vehicles/tents when they are off-map. -

I can play 1 hour a day for a month (30 hours playtime) and claim to have lived a month. A guy could also play nonstop for 2 days (48 hours playtime) and claim to have only lived those 2 days. Yet the latter outlived the former by far. These numbers are pointless. -
This is such a powerful track. Emotions started flying as I heard it. I remember the movie, it's worth a watch too.

Should i raid the NW airport? If so how!
VLG Castiel replied to -MadTommy's topic in New Player Discussion
They are the same, the northern one is more contested: It's within range of the ATC Tower and the Fire Station. The southern one is easier to snipe. Take your pick. I'd recommend doing it during the day. The odds of getting killed by bandits with NVGs is quite high otherwise given many join night servers just to do that (myself included for a while). -
We are overestimating the effect that their video will have. As a gamer, it did not cater to me at all. It looks like a boring sandbox game where you walk around killing bugged zombies and collecting soda cans. Just hope this starts a thing going, so that we don't only get Yogscast followers, but TotalBiscuit's and so on so forth to balance the community. Matter in fact, didn't TB just make a Mega WTF Is about it? Oh yes, he did.

^You are playing on private servers. The official DayZ servers are connected to the official DayZ Hive which stores all character information. Changing between the hundreds of these servers will always save your progress, your character will be in place. Private servers have their own database, you'll have to connect to the same server to keep playing on the same character. Some don't even have a database and you'll just start over and over everytime you relog. Look for the official ones, they follow a naming convention and they'll always have BattlEye enabled.

Word of mouth, fellow gamers.
-
I liked the way the moderator handled it. You weren't trashed for it by anyone, simply informed that's how things are with Yogscast and the thread closed to prevent said trashing. Was quite pleasantly surprised with how that turned out.
-
Yes, they are. As quoted. And how come we forgot the flashlight?

The way the gear system works is not really intuitive for modern gamers. When you click open backpack it should appear on the top left of the inventory window: Patrol Pack 8/8. That means your backpack has 8 slots of free out of 8 total, clicking on the left arrow in an item with the pack open will put that item in the pack and the free slots number should decrease. Close backpack afterwards, pressing the left arrow in an item now should drop it instead. Better yet:
