    NEW DayZ Fallujah Map Released!

Same. Different patches do nothing. It takes between 5 minutes and 20 minutes.
  2. It's the popularity - it's an automagical herder of ignorance and laziness. I actually bought A2 for DayZ but that hasn't stopped me from figuring out that BIS created the maps, not Rocket. Or having that extra brain cell to refrain from starting a thread called "MEH FRAME RATE SUCKS, FIX ROCKET" and then continuing to telling you I'm running a Pentium 4, 1GB of ram and a 8600GT. It makes you wonder what PC gaming is going to be like as Steam gets closer and closer to plug and play and how sore my face is going be from slamming it on my desk after reading the majority of threads.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Can't wait. All I really would like to see from a technical standpoint is DayZ being less CPU deficient than the current A2 engine. Better multi-threading would be great and probably allow for higher view distances. 2k would be epicness. Take a look at War Inc. DayZ has nothing to worry about.

Getting rid of player kills in the hud.

It's obviously a good idea. The OP is right - the counter is most likely artificially increasing killing, even if it's small. People are always going to want to change a zero into another number, ridding the game of kill counts will deflate the incentive for glossy eyed puss ridden stat whores to hot-key an e-peen screen shot and leave the killing to the people who really like it. I'd rather kill because of the potential epicness and be killed by someone else than a statistician. It might be a niche within a niche but you don't see a friendly help counter. +1 to the idea.
  5. Watching a DayZ stream and a few ideas popped up. The caster had the idea drink water with your hands. +Use hands to poor water into your mouth +Water bottles remain useful +Realism -Water bottles lose some necessity I had the idea of dropping an activated smoke grenade with your mouse wheel as your running from zeds (no animation). +Use your mouse wheel to 'drop smoke grenade' (activated) if you have one in your main +Take no damage with agrroed zeds unlike throwing the smoke grendade (stop, activate, pull back, throw animation) +Believable -Maybe too easy to ward off a hoard but smoke nades are pretty rare anyhow

    Scaring People - PART 2!

I want to see 10 more of these. Thumbs up awesome
  8. We are a clan 4 strong and would like to extend an invitation to the community. We started playing DayZ in late April and have probably logged around 200-250hrs. The criteria is as follows: -Experience. Reason being that a new player could be a detriment to our lively hoods as time and focus would be needed to catch him or her up -Consistent player. There are almost no days in the week that we aren't playing. Times range from 12pm EU/US-EST to 12am EU/US-EST. -Age. We all are in our 20's-30's and would like to enforce the half-assed line of maturity that we've created ;) We don't fit into any slot, bandit or friendly. We rover, we camp, we kill, we get killed (though the 4th option is not optimal). If your interested pm me or catch us on Steam. Pengs (me) bassturd CackerMuffin

RIP DayZ - Yogcast started a LP

Stopped at "This is a game that is really old".

    This game feels neutered.

I've heard that view distance on DayZ is locked down to 500m and was changed to 1000m. Don't quote me on that though but I do know that adjusting it locally will have no effect after the server defined view distance. There are servers that seem to using 500m and some that seem to use 1000m, it's random. It could be fog also, not sure. Take a screenshot give us something to look at.
  12. Looks like a plant to me. Too many round numbers in the gear menu. And who leaves 5 NVG's in one vehicle?
  13. I think the OP's direction is what the mod needs, but maybe not so severe. The problem is that there are a few types of PVP. 1. Intentional without fear - spawn, get gun, shoot, die, respawn (no fear of death) and 2. Intentional with fear - player hunting/back stabbing while acquiring loot, highly anticipated and earned kills (fear of death) and 3. Unintentional with fear - crossing paths, lack of communication, confliction, fear, confusion, angst (fear of death) The 1st is the one that needs to go IMO. We need PVP/Friendly Fire (friendly fire specifically, the game would not exist without it) but we don't need 'Hai, it's another shewter' PVP. Taking high end guns away from the coast is my advice - it would also push the player to understand the game before they start shooting people willy nilly. And I think with a more difficult landscape and a few key components that make players useful to other players (like blood bags), someone playing number 2 or 3 may become more quizzical about an encounter with another player. I'd love to see some intelligent backstabbing and elaborate kills. Social doesn't have to stand for rainbows.
  14. I'd get one of the cards eFFeRR referred to and then upgrade your PSU if you experience lock ups or severe FPS drops. If you do get a PSU, get a quality 450-500w. Corsair, PCP&C or Antec would be my recommendations. Single 12v rail also.
  15. Is it possible to zoom out with the range finder or does it zoom at all? Have tried zoom in/zoom out with no joy - also tried zeroing ect. Thanks
  16. Thanks. Yeah I dunno. Wasn't sure what zeroing actually did anyhow.

    Processors

The reason you don't see it mentioned is because AMD has gone down the road of next week and not today. When someone asks for a basic gaming machine, Intel leads (has lead for a while) because most games don't use 8 cores and Intel's IPC is faster. AMD is currently void because software sucks but I have a feeling they will do pretty good when software catches up (if they haven't already shot themselves in foot too many times to limp into market share).

    Processors

Woa nelly. lol A 8 core FX can be many times faster than a i3, the software just needs to take advantage of it. Right now an i3 does well on 90% of PC games because most games aren't using more than 2 cores and the i3's integer per core is much faster than that of an FX. For example, a dual core i3 will choke in BF3 MP where as the i5 won't because BF3 specifically is programmed to use up to 8 cores. But that same i3 will play BF3 SP just as well as an i5 because SP is not as intensive. An 8 core FX in MP will do minutely better than an i3 in BF3 MP because of it's many cores and the games ability to use it whilst being slower per core than an i3. So an i3 will be a bottleneck with future games and already is with some current games in specific cases. It's a double edged sword because software is lagging behind numbers of cores but really the best CPU you could buy today which will perform great and get you through tomorrow (proverbially) is a 4 core i5 2500K/i5 3570K. It won't break your budget and it's a 4 core. With a 4 core you'l have the power if you want to play a game that needs it. As for Arma 2, it only uses 2 cores so while you could get by with an i3, I'd still spend the little extra for a i5. You will sit pretty knowing that a background task isn't eating an extra 5FPS also with a 4 core. If you want computer help the last place you need to consult is a online gaming community. Find a hardware forum like hardocp, anandtech or overclock.net.

    Stopping to change weapons...

I would agree with a running weapon switch but would argue that it take a bit more time than if at a stand still. I would argue: -Switching to a handgun a. Slower to put rifle on back b. Easy to pull out pistol -Switching to rifle a. Slow to put handgun in holster b. Easy to pull rifle off back Because having something strapped to you already should be easy to find Getting a gun on your back or hip as you are vaulting would realistically be a bit more difficult (I could imagine that being chased by the undead would freak a guy out so badly he wouldn't be able to function anyhow) Obviously eating meat on the run could happen but everything else is canned. You'd have to be pretty skilled to punch open a can of beans while running for you life, and you'd end up looking like a retarded Olympian.

    Semi Perma Death.

I agree with it and would propose limited respawns. Though I almost think your idea is better. Current life + 2 respawns (3 lives) per 12hrs for vets Current life + 3 respawns (4 lives) per 12hrs for new comers, after 12 deaths you enter vet mode -or to be more sadistic (which i think is completely fair) Current life + 1 respawn (2 lives) per 24hrs for vets Current life + 2 respawns (3 lives) per 24hrs for new comers, after 9 deaths you enter vet mode I also feel that life isn't sacred enough. I play with a large group of people and the OP is right. Once you acquire things, dying loses it's meaning. If you wanted to really enrage some people you could en-state the 1hr or 2hr server ban + 12hr or 24hr limited respawns. *smile* Anything that makes a player fear death while allowing them to have another go at it in the same day, I'm all for.

    Suggestion: Respawn on tent

Only the pain of walking 30 minutes to 1hr to get back to your tent and IMO it's not enough. If everyone just respawns at their tents, the fear of dying is almost 0. Your going to have more people running around blowing guns off at every whim and killing people because you can easily respawn at your site if you die. The punishment for death is already weak IMO. This would just turn it into generic shooter number 86.

Loot washing up along the shore line

That's kinda how I feel. Though it would be fun to find a can of beans or sardines wash onto shore, but very rarely. Of course anything with weight would drop to the bottom of the ocean like guns and high grade mags. It would only make sense that maybe a sealed can of food would float or possibly a mag or watch that is sealed in a pouch. I like the idea but I also think that the loot should stay very low grade along with very rare spawning.
