How do so many ppl have snipers and top guns?
derrida (DayZ) replied to TheMove's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Internet kids are always overhyping the .50 cal weapons. IRL it depends how you get hit, and whether the bullet can spread it's force. If you get hit in the hand, it's not going to blow your hand off--it will most likely go straight through and leave the rest of your arm intact. Torso shots will generally leave you in pretty critical condition, but with arms/legs it really just depends where and how the bullet hits. -
Why Punish People for a Certain Playstyle?
derrida (DayZ) replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
rocket has stated pretty clearly before that alt-f4 out of combat is not supposed to be part of the game. you could make the same argument for scripting and duping--"the game lets you do it, don't tell me what to do," etc. etc. bullshit edit: lol I was trolled -
Wanted: room mates for flat share in Cherno. Must be fabulous.

I'm up for it but if you drink my dew I will shoot you in the leg and rape you and bandage you then rape you again in the south street seaport every day at mid day when the sun is highest in the sky. -
How can you even call this a game?
derrida (DayZ) replied to HamTheBacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do people even realize the definition of game? 1. an amusement or pastime 3. a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators. Of course DayZ is a fucking game. Yes, it's a mod. No, it's not finished. Assuming you're using the mod to have fun and not to train in a military simulator, then yes, you are playing a game. There have been plenty of unforgiving games in the past (NetHack anyone? about 100x difficult as this) that still called themselves games. We need to give this whole "anti-game" bullshit a rest. -
Please wipe all servers of items, tents and vehicles
derrida (DayZ) replied to harken (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
if it really is an alpha, then what's the problem with wiping? in most betas, periodic character/server wipes happen ALL the time. -
Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?
derrida (DayZ) replied to Jony_RocketInMyPocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey guys, we all like the SAME TV SHOW? LETS ORGANIZE TOGETHER! AREN'T WE SPECIAL AND UNIQUE? WE'RE NOT PERVERTED BY THE WARPED SENSE OF "MASCULINITY" or "MATURITY" that OPPRESSES our CULTURE <3<3<3 -
Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?
derrida (DayZ) replied to Jony_RocketInMyPocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
why do people find the need to define themselves by a tv show they watch? I'm sure there a just as many people on here who watch Breaking Bad / The Walking Dead / some other tv show, yet you don't see them shoving it in everyone's faces. -
Sniping in DayZ. The built in hack & how it should change for the better/harder
derrida (DayZ) replied to Cheboygan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think he meant "at" someone who's sprinting, not while sprinting himself. Really great post. Rocket mentioned something recently about adding weapon maintenance/degradation. I hope they make sniper ballistics more realistic as well. Not just for the realism, it would make the gameplay a lot more fun as well. -
so in lots of youtube videos I see people using group channel. Are they just doing it wrong, or does that work too?

I really like this idea. Would be cool to have a "bandit slayer" skin. Basically you have to be positive humanity, and have 3+ bandit kills, or something along those lines.
-
Odd that you don't get humanity by killing bandits
derrida (DayZ) replied to oleg86@msn.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
batman wouldn't kill bandits. But he sure as fuck would shoot them in the leg -
So...who exactly is this game supposed to be hard for?
derrida (DayZ) replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
the OP had some interesting ideas but kind of rambles on for a while. two things to keep in mind: 1. the game DOES NOT have to be friendly to new players and follow the "standard" difficulty curve that most games use. 2. most of the "difficulty" now is due to ARMA 2 engine zombie pathing. when standalone comes it should solve most of the quirks about aggro that you learn over time. also you mention spawn camping a lot, but it doesn't really happen too much unless you run directly into large cities. 95% of the time if you just run north, you'll be fine. And even those times when you do die, who cares? You're a new spawn, you don't have any good gear yet, just start over and try again. -

Ammo Not Refilling On Re-Log After 1.7.2.5
derrida (DayZ) replied to Nick8478's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
He said "more" realistic than CoD, not realistic, which seems accurate enough. It's more sad when people think ARMA 2 sniping is realistic -
Killing everyone makes the decision easy. If you want a more complex game, try following their movements and watching them for a bit. This may give you clues on whether you can trust them. It's always going to be a risk encountering new people, but honestly the risks are what make the game fun. If you kill everyone you just become part of the problem.

Social Observation: Playing DayZ to not play DayZ
derrida (DayZ) replied to ACow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think if your tent(s) destroyed on character death, that would make the game way way better. Imagine a DayZ where dying actually meant more than having to run 30min to stock up again on endless supplies? -
Social Observation: Playing DayZ to not play DayZ
derrida (DayZ) replied to ACow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fantastic post by the OP. One of the problems now is that, even without duping and hacking, the gear system suffers massively to inflation, and there are very few ways for items to "exit" the game. Because of this, it's only a matter of time until everyone has the best gear. We've already seen how common rare gear is. At this point, it's about 10x easier to get the best items by killing other players than it is by finding it yourself. -
it's supposed to be about zombies and players, and both are supposed to be threats. Just cause zombies are easy now doesn't mean they won't ever pose a challenge in the future (or at least a risk)
-
No one's saying it's perfect. It's more a question of whether it's better or worse than what's before. Creating a "completely fair" humanity system would be extremely hard to implement in this version of the mod. You may have to kill the odd one or two people every once in a while, but it shouldn't be too hard to avoid bandit status if you're doing things right. Let's be pragmatic.
