    Is My Computer Strong Enough?

Yea building your own saves costs but I still can't imagine getting a rig to play this at any sort of acceptable performance/quality for $500 I just recently built my current rig(the one in my sig) and it cost around 3000 euros and I still have to set AA=disabled, terrain detail=high and object detail=normal, with visibility=2000 @ 1920x1080 and I even get drops in cherno from 60 to around 48-50 with a lot of things going on :( Solid 60 everywhere else though. Sure I could max everything, AA included and get over 30fps all the time, but I like to have it running at 60fps as the difference in smoothness is night and day between 60 and 30. Problem is the arma 2 engine is a beast to run and not very well optimised at all.

    Is My Computer Strong Enough?

around 45fps in the woods and 30fps in citys' date='with some dips here and there tho. setting on this screen http://www.xup.in/dl,51384242/options.jpg/ [/quote'] Right, first of all I'd recommend these settings for you to try to hopefully bring your average fps up a bit.. visibility=2000(absolutely no need to set it higher than this for day-z, most servers cap to 1600 anyways. 10k will rape any system. Only reason you can run with 10k I reckon is that as I said, it's prob capped serverside.) texture detail=very high video memory=default anisotropic filtering=very high(won't have any performance hit really) antialiasing=Disabled(frees up some much needed fps, use fxaa or smaa instead for zero performance hit.) Terrain detail=Normal(might give you 1-2 fps back) OBJECT DETAIL=normal or low, for your rig I'd recommend low(this has the biggest impact on performance. I play with that set to normal. setting it to low doesn't really look a whole pile different, only changes grass and bush density clutter and LOD switching distance. Dropping from normal to low can give you anything from 5-10fps back depending on system and what's happening in game at the time) shadows=very high HDR=very high(yea noticed no hit, nor did any of my friends from having this on v.high rather than normal.) Post processing=Very high(same as hdr, never noticed any hit between very high and disabled. Looks 100 times nicer at very high rather than disabled.) vsync=On or off doesn't seem to cause or gain any performance loss. Only really necessary to enable it if you are getting over 60fps most of the time.) Adding -winxp to the startup parameters helps performance slightly for me, but maybe that's an SLI only thing? Worth checking out though.

Define running fine? What fps do you get and what settings are you using? Just interested to know.

I can't think of a rig for that price to run this with any level of quality/performance. You'd spend nearly that on a graphics cards :D

Chip probably not good enough. It has no graphics card either. Also I would recommend getting an SSD as it will help prevent texture popup and stutter. So I'd say, no this will not run it at any acceptable level of quality/performance at all. I'd say shop around for something better. You will probably have to spend a good bit more than that to get good quality/performance on this game. Check out the rig in my sig. Even with this rig I have no AA enabled, object detail on normal and terrain detail on high, all other settings maxed and vis distance 1600 @ resolution 1920x1080. Can hold solid 60fps most of the time but the lowest I've seen it drop in the cities with a lot going on is 48-50fps. My point is I can't even hold solid 60 with my rig with a few settings turned down :) Reckon a lot of folks are hovering around the 30fps mark, but the pc you linked to would not even hold that. A mate of mine has an old q9550@2.8ghz which is faster than that i3 by a bit, he also has 4gb 1800mhz ram and gtx580 and he is averaging around 30-40 just to put it into perspective!!

German server DE 93 mass kill

Was just on DE 93 and wandering through the forest minding my own business then suddenly I heard a really loud bang like a bomb and my screen went white and died instantly with broken bones showing too. I thought someone had fragged me but then everyone else on the server died at the same time too so a hacker me thinks!! It's hard to imagine that some assholes get enjoyment doing that sort of thing. It just ruins the game for everyone. Luckily my character was not that old and I didn't have a lot of stuff, but for someone that had a lot of nice loot and had been playing for a while it would really suck. Until a way is found to ban these creeps and fix day-z so it can't be exploited in such ways, it is hard to sit down and get stuck into it when you could get hacked at any time by someone and loose all your progress.
  8. Hi guys, How do I get my command line tweaks that I use in the launcher option in steam to work for day-z when using sixlauncher? Thanks, Mark.
  9. maracusarillius_irl

    command lline tweaks and sixlauncher

Never mind, I found out if you put the command line tweaks you want into, "additional startup parameters" under the "options" tab in "six launcher" it works fine.

gtx 570, but only 15-20 fps. What to do?

Biggest fps killers are object detail and AA, and to a lesser degree terrain detail. Disable AA and set object detail to normal or low, and terrain detail to normail or high, then you will prob get 60fps most of the time even in cities with stuff going on. Hdr and PP etc have zero impact on my rig weather they are set to off or max. The only ones I saw that made a difference as I said were AA, terrain detail and object detail. Instead of AA I use these tweaks in .cfg file.. AToC=7; FXAA=0; PPAA=3; PPAA_Level=3; Also in the launch option "-winxp" made a difference for me but I think it might just be for SLI users?
  11. Hey guys :) Mostly it runs @ 60fps for me but around the bigger towns/cities it can drop to 40fps. I have all settings very high except.. vid memory= default terrain=high objects=normal AA=-disabled View distance=1600 Running @ 1920x1080 In cfg file I have.. FXAA=17; PPAA=3; PPAA_Level=3; My specs are as follows.. CPU = i7-2700k@4.8ghz with HT enabled GPU = 2 x Gigabyte GTX 670 windforce OC cards in SLI MOBO = Asus P8z68 deluxe gen3 RAM = 16gb Corsair dominator @ 1600mhz (7-8-8-24) HDD's = 1x120gb & 1x240gb Intel 520 SSD(OS & Progs)+(Games) Sound = Creative X-fi titanium pci-e OS = Win7 x64 I see other folks on here, saying they run everything on max with view distance @ 3000 or higher smoothly. So wondering if they consider anything over 30 to be smooth, or are they actually holding solid 60fps? Some even with AA enabled?? Am interested to get some feedback on this. Do I need to do any tweaks/edits to get it to use all my cores and to use SLI, or should it do that itself? Thanks, Mark.

Should I be getting better performance?

I found that object detail on low helped drops in cities. Kinda prefer the look of the grass on low too I think, looks less shimmery. Now with these settings I am almost always @ solid 60fps. Lowest I've seen it drop to was low 50's. So my settings are.. Viability: 1600 Texture Detail: Very High Video Memory: Default AF: Very High AA: Disabled Terrian Detail: High Objects Detail: Low Shadow Detial: Very High Post Effect: Very High Interface Size: Normal Interface Res: 1920x1080 3D res: 1920x1080 vsync: On adding -winxp helped with SLI performance for me. I had vsync off in the game and was forcing adaptive via nvidia control panel but was getting this strange very subtle tearing. Changed to app controlled in CP and set to on in game and sorted that. Also running.. AToC=7; FXAA=0; PPAA=3; PPAA_Level=3; And have.. maxSamplesPlayed=128; (as I have x-fi) Before I put this rig together I would have thought I'd be able to max everything and get solid 60 but I guess it is what it is :) Could max everything including AA and be well above 30 at all times, but for me it need to be 60. I tried maxing EVERYTHING and capping fps to 30 with adaptive vsync half refresh. It was solid 30 but felt so sluggish, so I decided to drop a few things and have it pretty much solid 60. instead. The difference in responsiveness is night and day between 60 & 30.

    Performance issues

This has been proven to be incorrect. There was a test done where they took a group of fighter pilots and flashed different images of aircraft on a screen, each image lasting 1/200th of a second. Not only did the pilots see the planes, but they could identify them. This proves that the human eye can see in excess of 200fps. The reason the whole "human eye can't see above 30" argument came about is back when a fps standard had to be set for film. 24fps was settled upon as it was the bare minimum they could get away with before the image looked too jerky. This was when everything was shot on film, and saving a couple of fps would save rolls of film over the course of a shoot=big money saved. The way film displays images has a natural motion blur to it so 24fps or 30fps seems smooth for film, whereas a game or anything that shows clear individual images needs a fair bit higher fps to look as smooth as the same thing on film. The minimum for perfectly smooth and fluid gameplay is 60fps. Try a game @ 30fps, then the same game @ 60fps or 120fps and tell me the higher fps doesn't look smoother. What someone can "tolerate" is another thing altogether :D

Should I be getting better performance?

Already have shadows on v.high so that should be ok. Just tried disabling sli, no difference. Nah post processing and HDR make no difference. My point with this thread is trying to see if people are managing to pull solid 60fps everywhere in the map @ 1920x1080, or does smooth to them mean anything over 30fps? My machine is fairly hardcore and I've seen folks with far less hardware claim constant smooth gameplay, so just wanted to know if they were getting 30 or 60? With my rig I shouldn't have to disable or turn down anything really, but I get a noticeable fps hit with objects set above normal and terrain on v.high. And AA is not usable for me@1920x1080 as it creates to much of a fps dip, so wanted to know is everyone in the same boat or is something wrong with my config that is stopping me getting solid 60?
