Patch 1.5.7 and this being an Alpha and fucking zombie spawns
bjorn (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Hey Rocket, I, as everyone, appreciate what you are doing, and understand it is something that will be improved. I believe the concern, at least mine, is the people who are claiming this is a good thing. It clearly is overdone (not so much "intense" as "fuck it ill die anyway don't care anymore") I believe most people are complaining due to the fear that those who want to keep this insane and impossible amount of zombies will get their wishes, causing the game to be virtually unplayable for a good number of people (no, not noobs, genuine players that have the right to enjoy this game as much as anyone else with an assault rifle and full ammo) That said, we all know and wait for the tweaked update, and will keep playing regardless =) Cheers and keep up the good work! And happy belated birthday (timezone) -
If there was a zombie apocalypse, you wouldn't respawn at a beach with a pistol, a can of beans, water, and flares. If there was a zombie apocalypse, zombies wouldn't die with one shot of a revolver to the chest. This isn't a zombie apocalypse. It's a game. I say game because, for it to be a simulator, we need parameters taken from reality in order to base the simulator off of (it is simulating, and thus immitating) and we CANNOT accurately simulate a zombie apocalypse BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED. So stop trying to sell iterations of game design Rocket is improving on by stating "if this was a zombie apocalypse" or "it's a simulator" or "it's hardcore noob" Point is, as it stands, it's just not fun. P.S I love stealth, I love taking 20 mins sneaking around a town at night with little ammo, I love the fact that you can die anytime and I was one of the ones who wanted more zombies. However, this is game breaking.

The New Zombie Count is AWESOME
bjorn (DayZ) replied to WildGunsTomcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm really sick of the occasional high horse riding user that calls people with legitimate arguments about a BUG "noobs" as if he/she is some what superior to them because they just can't comprehend how this actually causes the game to be less enjoyable to the majority. Let me guess, you have full gear. Correction, everyone arguing the new update is great has full or good gear, or a big group. Ok guys, lets make a wager: Start a new character (instructions can be found) and spawn clean, now survive for more than an hour. Go on, then lets see you praise this already clarified to be GLITCHED, BUGGED update that won't remain this way due to the fact that it's BROKEN. Yes, greater number are good, but: a) 30 zombies near a barn makes no sense and kills immersion. Why on earth are there 30 zombies standing still doing nothing in an empty barn? Immesion: broken b) Spawn times. So within a couple of minutes, BAM, 30 more zombies just teleported? c) Use stealth: sure, if the stealth mechanic worked, and zombies seeing you through walls didn't exist. d) Impossible situation: Got 90 zombies on you? Not the 1% of players with stupid amounts of ammo and a group? Die OR glitch the game with the hill-drop. Conclusion: Most people are complaining about factors aside from being "noobz lolz no skillz" Zombie numbers are too many. They break immersion, they don't make sense. and the game mechanics just don't cater to such a high number (be it stealth or loot). I say a quantity between 1.5.6 and 1.5.7 for the next update would be perfect, with a longer spawn time. So if all the "pros" and "hardcore" players could stop making fools of themselves by calling players that aren't enjoying a bug noobs, that would be swell, because despite popularity occasionally breaking games, its also good design and user experience quality that keeps a mod like this alive for many years. -
I would enjoy more abilities to taunt / gather their attention. Smoke, flares and bottles are a good start but what about firecrackers, even stones, meat (goat meat and what not) This leading to traps, as mentioned in another thread. But not just IEDs. Bear traps, rope traps, etc.

Suggestions to solve the biggest issues
bjorn (DayZ) replied to super pretendo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A) The main idea of the game is not 'gathering stuff', it is 'surviving'. B) If the spawning idea is fair to all, make it random for all players. (And, I would also ask that you refrain from attacking people's opinions with comments about being 'delusional'.) What you could call 'karma', one could say that your personal attacker could be rewarded for playing the game more successfully than you. TKJ A) To survive, you have to scavange, and thus gather materials (food, water, ammo). Thus it very much is about gathering. Thats what you do, you search for items...to gather, in order to consume and thus survive B) Karma already exists in the mod, it's a mechanic of the mod and can be developed further to balance out mindless shootings. As for rewarding a player for playing better? How is the guy that spawned behind me by chance and shot me in the back of the head playing better than me? There is more to "quality of play" than being able to kill someone, since it's so damn easy in this game. I agree with most of the constructive posts here. Especially one about spawning Bandits closer to bandits and vice versa. I mean, in a sort of "nice" and "bad" part of town spawn area. Or perhaps the lower your karma, the further inland you spawn, since you are so much "better" than the "noobs" that have good karma, you can handle yourself better in a more hostile environment. Either way, random spawns on a small area of coast where both bandits and survivors alike can spawn mixed just makes the first 20 minutes of the game less immersive than the rest of it. -
Suggested tweaks to balance game play
bjorn (DayZ) replied to Leechman's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I wholly agree with this equation more zombies = less pointless/COD pvp , more gain from team work, etc. Also another balance to game play is spreading spawns across the island (not sure if spawns are just around the south coast) This would reduce the "rush on normandy" beach when spawning on a fresh full server.
