Ha... butthurt about snipers... i've played this game and been killed many times and many ways... so it's not that... Anyway... i'm out... good luck to rocket and his crew. They certainly deserve to build the game they want and deserve success for all the hard work they have put into this mod. It's just not in a place that draws me back to keep playing. I hope everyone who attacked my post continues their enjoyment and support for rocket.

This... there is nothing about this in the game... I can run around forver looking for loot... never once worried about the "infected indigenous people... they are a non factor... the people interaction is almost nil... the survival factor is moot once you find a hatchet, box of matches and hunting knife... and as far as milisim... yeah, the game is based on a milism engine... but it's the douchery is the same... the engine doesn't change that... and for me, that is what this game encourages now... because all of the above is gone. A 225 km2 open world post-soviet state and one of the areas hit by a new and presently unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world's population. You are one of the few who have survived and now you must search this new wasteland in order to fight for your life against what is left of the indigenous population, now infected with the disease. Go Solo, team up with friends or take on the world as you choose your path in this brutal and chilling landscape using whatever means you stumble upon to survive.

I just have the time to spend running from one town to another with a hatchet only to be sniped by some troll sitting around thinking he's got some skill by shooting a guy with a hatchet from 400m.... and to think this game was never about zombies... I think the game has evolved into what it most caters to... and that is why i'm leaving... there is nothing more for it to offer me... so don't criticize my skills or the way I play... because you've only seen this post. and good luck to dayz... i appreciate the devs work up to this point... i've just had enough of where it sits today. read between the lines on this one... the game has evolved into what it most caters to...

People who lay around in the same spots on servers and wait to shoot other people were criticized for being campers and consider to not have skill. In DayZ, they are called "bandits" and "snipers" and some how people think there is skill to setting up barbed wire in front of one of the few enter-able buildings and then sitting out side hidden waiting to shoot some guy with an hatchet. i'm out... it was a nice run up to this alpha version. the game is not about zombies or any type of survival... it's about how you can manipulate the server jumping to get a gun and then sit around and snipe people. no thanks... you've lost your theme and your way...

I think I will start playing this way... I have a ton of gear... DMR, M249 SAW, PDW, 2 NVG, 2 GPS, Ghillie etc etc... I find I don't really need any of that gear to survive (my original goal) and unless I plan to start killing people I don't really need the DMR. I've gotten so bored I'm about ready to just give my gear away and start over. Working so hard for all that gear only to realize how utterly useless most of it is... quite unrewarding. I started playing private hive servers just to get the excitement of gearing back up again and I do just as well with a hatchet and maybe a pistol to survive... and it's more exciting.

In regard to the "where am I getting shot from" I haven't found an easy way to tell in that scenario. You don't hear the gunshots, just the bullets hitting around you. In real life, those would have to come from really far away. In DayZ, they can be really close. Part of the problem with the weapons in this game... I don't know if anyone has ever been out hunting or around guns much, but you can hear gunshots from really far away... So alot of my deaths are "WTF?" deaths where you never know where or how it really happened. I've been shot on the 2nd story roof from below and all I hear are bullet richochets. Then when running out the 1st floor the guy is coming in the building... makes you wonder how in the world I never heard gunshots? Maybe it's the result of going "in shock"... because if I'm not getting shot at, I can hear gunshots in the distance quite often.

I think the key thing to recognize is that zombie survival really isn't that hard in this game. This version of the alpha isn't really about zombie survival anymore. Avoid other people. <----- MOST IMPORTANT Learn what buildings have 1 entry/exit and which have two. Learn to use those buildings to lose zombies. Learn how to use hills and trees to lose zombies. (losing zombies is quite easy now) Spawn, run into cherno or electro and try to find a hatchet, hunting knife and matches. (and maybe a water bottle) (hit a grocery store, church, apartment buildings and maybe a hospital to grab morphine) Run out of those towns and hide in the hills and hunt animals. (lots of animals around Vybor or Berezino) Run into other towns to find drinks and a water bottle. Most important - remember to avoid other people = Survival Less boring survival. Try to find a bike to speed up those long runs between towns and get some binoculars to scan open fields for animals. As long as you make no other human contact... you will survive.

As of 1.7.2.5, the mechanics of the zombies are pretty good. Not spotted from too far away, can move around them fairly well. You can lose them in a forest or hills fairly well. Now, I think it's time to add more. or maybe zombie hordes. I don't know what the spawn trigger is, but it would be cool to have a random count spawn in certain areas. And they should spawn before I can run all the way into town and into a building.

Suggestion - More Murders = More Isolation
astroz0mbie replied to astroz0mbie's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well... nobody asked you. It was a suggestion that was made... no request for feedback. The game as it is... is heavily lopsided to 1. KoS or 2. Play as a group of people who KoS. There are serious consequences to trying not to KoS and none for KoS. So when someone suggests that there should be consequences... well let the cry babies come out from the wood works... My suggestion is more focused on consequences... and if you murder everyone you see, eventually you will be alone. That is my point. Which is why I said it could be limited to the rate at which you kill people. If you kill 20 people on three servers in 1 hour... that seems excessive for what it takes to survive and the point of the game. no different than spawning six servers in an hour to loot the same buildings over and over. Maybe the alpha is just fundamentally broken since they can't fix server jumping for murders, looting etc. So I think my suggestion is valid that the murder situation has no consequences and is really what this game is designed to promote at this point. Zombies are almost inconsequential. The end. close the thread... if the devs want to make it happen, let them... if not, the game will stay as it is. -
Suggestion - More Murders = More Isolation
astroz0mbie replied to astroz0mbie's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Then remove murder counts. So there will be no bragging rights. I hate seeing people brag about how many murders they have. people play for different reasons... and alot of the videos I see posted have nothing to do with survival... maybe they should read the home page... It's just as lame to say "it's a game and we play it the way we want... murdering people" as it is to say "in real life". Beacuse this was supposed to be a realism mod for surviving an "infected"/"zombie like" outbreak. I'm just making a suggestion that might help guide this more towards what may be the central theme of the game. i'd be happy to have someone with 100 kills that has survivied 100 days... if there was a way to calculate the rate at which someone murders that might have an impact on their ability to join servers as well... if you murder 10 people drop and join another server, murder 10 more there should be some punishment. the same for looting a building, dropping, looting another server, dropping and looting another server... as of right now, i could argue there is a punishment for not playing KoS.... because it certainly doesn't pay off to try and meet up with anyone other than people you know outside of the game. so stop whining about "punishing game play style" just because that is how you like to play. -
In real life, if you murder everyone in your town. Odds are you will be the only one left surviving. In DayZ, you can just switch servers and keep killing or you know people will respawn and you keep killing. There should be a check to see if you have x murders, you can only join servers with y or less people on it. It should change in proportion to the murders you have. 1-10 murders - join unlimited server count 11-20 murders - join 30 and below server count 21-30 murders - join 15 and below server count 31+ murders - join 8 and below server count You could still play on servers as people join them (like people coming into your town), but you can't just join a 50 or 70 person server and start popping people from a hillside.

awesome, thanks!

Is there a way to see server information while in game? (number of players, whose on, what the server name is etc) Thanks

1. you shouldn't be able to eat 8 steaks and go to full health... 2. you should only recovery blood when you are fully hydrated and fed. (possibly a percentage of that let's say 65% or higher). 3. you could have recovery rates based on food types... beans = 1x, steak = 1.2x water = 1x, soda = 1.2x edit: :) removed my initial reaction :)
