Deet, I was enjoying the discussion with you, so no problem. :) Welch, I understand but have to admit, I laughed when you said the young player was meowing and singing. I think I like the sound of that person! :beans:

MZLY, exactly! Crazy! Also, looking at your screen is cheating, and aborting to go to sleep is just an attempt to avoid being sniped - immediate ban! ;) Actionman, I hope for your sake that English is not your first language, dude. Dutch I know who told me these things. I'm just not wanting to start a war by naming names. And I'm pointing out too how it's just a matter of opinion and perspective unless it is posted on the forums saying "Rules of Play" and it states clearly "The following are deemed "cheating" and doing them will result in your ban". Otherwise, it's not cheating. I'd say lying on a hill sniping people as they spawn is cheating. Rocket didn't call it cheating but he disliked it and acted immediately he knew it was happening. That's why he took away the gun at spawn and why spawns are random. He said that in an interview. Fraggle - I'll have pink ones please! -
I do, Deet. I've run many a clan and, indeed forums too. It's very stressful. But probation simply means, telling new recruits they can wear a new-recruit clan sign and if you see or get reports of unacceptable behaviour by them they will not be made a full member.

Marvellous! Yep, that's the sort of day I had in Dayz, yesterday. :D Just when I start to feel I'm not doing too well in Dayz, lady luck comes my way. Now, I'll admit it, I die a lot. A few days ago, I died around 30 times. And no, it wasn't bandits or baddies, it was bleeding out from zombies while I try to loot a can of beans, or hackers every time. <_< And then, thanks to this wonderful community, some lovely person will step in and offer me a back pack or a nice gun to use instead of my axe, or maybe their company for a time, with lots of great advice about where to go, how best to move and so on. Just after dieing about 30 times, a few days ago, another lovely player contacted me and offered to meet up with me for part of my travels. When we met up he gave me a gps(!), a ghillie suit, some food and big gun! I was overly whelmed. I won't name him until I've had a chance to check he isn't bashful about my gratitude and thanking him in the forum. So I decided that now I had all these things I should go on an adventure! I'm not a noob any more, as I've been playing for a couple of months but I just cannot get the hang of pointing my weapon at a zombie and hitting it. It can take 4 clips just to down one zombie, by which time every other zombie on the server has arrived. :o But that's just life, isn't it? You have to keep trying or you never improve. I bid my companion adieu and headed off up north on my own. I assumed I'd die within ten minutes but I didn't. Ok, I stuck to fairly low population servers and travelled at night (got night googlees now too!) but I'm still doing it! One of my happiest times in Dayz is running through the forest alone. It's so peaceful and always hilarious when a pig or other animal wanders by. I usually have to hit them with 20 or 30 bullets to kill them but at least I can do it, so that's progress! So my adventures took me up to the North West airfield alone, hiding from other players, who didn't seem to see me - so I'm guessing they didn't have infra-red maybe. I had a look for some ammo, picked it up and got out, as I had my axe and my big shiny gun already. I then headed over to the North East airfield. I didn't need anything but I wanted to see it. Beautiful countryside it is too. Later on my way back down South, just outside Berezino I found a boat! It just needed fuel. Of course I couldn't get the right click to refill my jerry can but I had enough to get me to Elektro, where I met a pal of mine. He's a lovely, friendly noob. I tell him all about my adventures and I ask, "How have you been doing?". He says, "Oh good, I found bike, well 2 bikes". :o I tell him, "We're gonna need more jerry cans!" We then spent two hours of hilarity with this eejit (me) trying to show my pal "how to do things". Me - like I have any idea what I'm doing! I tried to show him how to sneak into a barn and grab a jerry can. Unfortunately, I went deaf, so I told him to keep watch and if he hears an angry zombie or sees one close to shout out zombie to me on skype. However, I noticed him legging it away, and that the world was going grey. I'm being attacked! "Yes, sorry, I panicked and forgot to say." I know that feeling, I've done it many a time. The result of my sharing my expert (not) wisdom (not) was we limped off into the hills leaving behind two thirds of our blood and had to eat all our food. This evening, I'm going to try to show him how to refuel bikes and boats, and how to drive. I expect to die repeatedly!

I'm sorry son, but you can tell someone's age by their behaviour and language, very easily. For example, when you find yourself dealing with someone who is impatient, or finds it difficult to follow the instructions of other players who have senior roles in a clan, that is often a sign of someone who is very young and immature. Bragging is another sign. Also, another example, someone who posts threads that say things like "Yo, sup, I is lookin to git me a clan", you can tell you are not dealing with someone who is 20 or 30 years old. Yet another example is swearing. I swear from time to time but I don't feel the need to swear frequently, as some younger people do. These are all indicators that you are dealing with a young player. However, NONE of the above means that all younger players do those things or are immature. It just means that when people do those things, older players can tell they are dealing with someone younger. For me, I am not interested in playing with someone who just keeps on wanting to go to an airfield for guns and find people to shoot, and no matter what other plans the group might have, they keep on and on about wanting to the thing they want. If they don't get what they want, they storm off. It's another sign one is dealing with a child or young person. Adults, young or old, don't do that unless they are immature too. Axe, I'd love an over 21 forum. Somewhere peaceful to post actual questions and get proper answers that are useful. Bliss! Edit - sorry I wanted to add that some of the most helpful and friendly people I have come across in Dayz are 14-16 years old. I do not include those friendly, kind, generous, playful and enthusiastic young adults in what I've written above, as they don't do those things. Perhaps clans could have a probation period? I know one 14 year old person who is friendly mature and eager to learn but he can't get into a clan because of the more immature people of his age group, and lower.

No Dutch, I am pointing out that, to say "It is cheating to use anything outside of the dayz universe to your advantage against other players", must include microphones if it includes software and hardware use such as alt-f4, or hacked items for example. Because microphones are an item that is "outside of the dayz universe". So the point I am trying to make is that the argument that was given to me - that it is cheating to use anything outside the dayz universe to your advantage in dayz - is wrong because that would make using a microphone cheating! That doesn't make sense, so the argument, the logic behind it, must be flawed. I have seen so many players use arguments about what is and isn't cheating, when actually, they don't understand the logic or tennet behind that argument. They're just regurgitating what they've heard. It's like people who keep saying "it's a sandbox game..." but really, they've no idea what it means. -
I've read the first page, but don't want to read the whole thread. I just wanted to point out that your original thread's mathematics is incomplete. You wrote... "I had a succesfull trade with Nirvana620 so iill add his name to the list with +1 But what happens if another user says Nirvana ambushed him? then we give him a -1 so he has one succefull trade and one who turned bad. and so we have one positve score and one negative score. if another play came and had the same exprience with nirvana his name will apear with +1 -2" +1-1=0 So then... 0+1= 1 It does not equal -2! You've written the same sort of thing, +1-2 but not the outcome, which is 1. So you're just showing the final score, not the addition/deletions along the way? Oh dear, I'm making this complicated. Sorry!

Depends on what you mean by "aborting during combat". Being shot at in dayz isn't combat. That's an act of terrorism, unless two parties are fighting each other. (If you're playing arma that's different.) If someone shot at me I would never abort. I would run, and in the very last resort, shoot back. However, if I arrive in a server that has one person on it and I spawn in the same remote location I was in the last time I played, yet 10 seconds later some sniper tries to shoot me, I am not staying around. I'm leaving. How can that even be possible without hacking? And during my first couple of weeks, if I was attacked by a large number of zombies I would abort if surrounded and unable to run. Again, I was told this is cheating so I stopped but I still feel it's not wrong to abort if you are new. Maybe noob licences could be issued that permit x number of aborts agains zombie gangs in your first two weeks of play! :D -

Fraggle, you always make me smile. Really? Rocket endorses meta-gaming? So why are we not allowed to abort if a sniper attacks for the hills? Why is that cheating? I was told it's because Rocket doesn't like meta-gaming and it's cheating. Traveller, your inability to grasp such simple ideas is quite shocking. You are unable to grasp that deaf people play dayz, so therefore, it cannot happen? Of course it does. -

Expect lots of clan adverts any moment now! There are some really great people who will help you via these forums. Look out for the clans that have a proper training process, which some have. And bump this thread if you don't get enough replies at first. :) -

Azrael, meta-gaming is using anything in our world, such as the abort button, or the Alt-F4 key on your keyboard, and by the same logic/reason, the microphone, to change reality in the dayz world. That's the point I was putting forward. It isn't my view, it's the one put forward by many people. For example, you can more easily tell your friend on skype that you're going to sneak around the back and kill some sniper than with the keyboard. Now I would say that that is good. But others say using things in our universe/world is cheating and called meta-gaming. I'm saying that logic naturally falls to microphones too. Of course, we love our microphones so we're not going to want to admit their use is meta-gaming and I doubt Rocket would either, as it would impact negatively on eventual sales! -
Give Current Dayz Players Free Game Keys On Release
Sula replied to Mikeloeven (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I bought arma2 solely so I could run Dayz. I paid my money and I got what I paid for. I'm very happy. When the new game comes out, I will pay for it too - if I like the look of it. I see the fact that I was introduced to the world of Arma2 as a plus. I'm not interested in military games, just collecting things, killing zombies, staying alive and so on. But, whenever I like, I can go into arma 2 and have a drive around chernarus in a hmmmv. Life is good! -

Harken, do you plan on banning all our deaf members and what about those who cannot use mics for various reasons? As to greater risk, one can easily argue that the state of play is to type with channels and the use of mics lessens that risk. However, one could just as easily argue that using a mic is cheating. Meta-gaming! -

Haven't seen you in a while, MichaekM. It's always a pleasure to run in to you in dayz. And not just because you're usually saving my life, repeatedly! :beans: -
I got my basics and headed off into the wide blue yonder. Visited many places from Zelano to Berezino, from Cherno to Olsha. Caught up with a nice guy called Bo_Kysung along the way. I wanted to thank him for his advice and help. He's a knowledgeable and honorable player. I'd say look out for him and say hi, but you'd never see him. He's almost invisible. :beans: It's great to meet up with a player from time to time, after travelling alone for a time. And convenient for transfusions too. I'd recommend it. One of the things I like most about dayz is running through the country. And seeing wildlife too, which always makes me smile. Chickens in particular! The simple things in life are best. :) What about you? Apart from killing, what do you like about dayz?

I would never kill another player for their food or drink or anything. I would much sooner die. You have a very tolerant attitude. I agree about sniping. It does suck. -
Yep, good point! Some of my happiest times have been lying low, chuckling away to myself watching others being sneaky, not knowing that they too are being watched, or players who think they are alone, dancing about. I don't kill anyone so they're safe but it is charming to see.

Nice cat in spacesuit, Red! I don't say any way of playing is the right way or the wrong way but I do say if I think someone's doing something I think is stupid or childish, as that's the point of forums - to express opinions. -
Nice thread. :) :beans:

I'm the same. I have never even aimed a gun at another player, let alone killed anyone. I consider players who kill on sight to be either under 11 years of age or of limited learning ability. I die a lot, and rarely have anything other than an axe but then I'm happiest with my axe because I can kill zombies with it and I don't have to find deerstands full rare ammo. Been playing for a couple of months. -
Sickboy, I tried to follow your link and got a warning that the site was not trustworthy. McAffee warned me not to enter. Not seen that before.
