  1. That's a very decent gesture, Dave. Lucky Bambi! :)

    Players 30+ years old

To my shame, I added a few people and then because I didn't recognise their names on skype, was too embarrassed to get in touch with anyone - I've no idea who most of the people are on my skype contact list! I must do something about this over the coming week. So I may well contact all of you and see if anyone is still interested in just having a list of oldies, or maybe wants to get together for a run about, or even just do a match up of names from the forum and their skype name, where they're not printed in this forum. :beans: :beans: :beans:

    in game map.. scroll speed..

It has been playing up for me since the previous beta patch. Every time I open the map it shoots up to the North West far corner of the wilderness and I have to scroll down slowly. Also, I often cannot view the south and south east coast at all because it just won't go down that far. :emptycan: Edit - not sure about processor/ram point - I have two big beasties of drives, including a terrabyte of game storage on one, and a static too. Plus 16GB corsair RAM and it's still a bugger for me.

    1.7.2.6 Debug .. Bug

Same, though I don't have a menu option related to debug. What concerns me is that we will be playing a very different game if our blood levels and any gradual loss, along with our increasing/dropping temperature, are no longer available to us. We won't know we need antibiotics until we're coughing, we won't know we're losing blood if it isn't obvious, such as at night - if there's no data on screen.

What is the worth of an AKM?

I picked up an akm last night in elektro. I was a little annoyed because even though it's a nice gun, it's a little loud for killing zombies. I gave my AS50 to a friend. That's a big, bad gun. Of course, "value" has many meanings, depending on the context and even the location. :) Oh and no gun is "worth nothing". Stuck in a corner, surrounded by zombies, I'd even take a makarov if I had to. AKM is a good weapon. It's not one of the fanciest, quiet sniper type guns but so what.
  6. I sit in front of my computer struggling to understand what I am meant to do. I watch video after video and they always vary from my system. There must be an easier way. People say "download the update" but they don't say you will need zip software to unzip it. They say, "just run it and it will install." Turns out that actually means you need to click on the beta patch exe file. How am I meant to know these things? I swear, I been trying to update dayz for over three hours - just to work out what it is I meant to do. I play via dayzcommander and steam except steam often doesn't work. Right now, since the new update I can't access servers unless I use dayzcommander but it doesn't list the servers I want to get to - so I need to install it manually or at least to get steam to update dayz. Anyone know how to get steam to do that? Does anyone else find it confusing, upsetting, and worrying every time there's an update? I thought all I had to do was put the unzipped files in my @dayz folder but now the unzipped programme keeps asking me where to unzip stuff and won't give me access to that server. I can't be the only one with all these issues whenever I have to update, can I? I don't have anyone to ask for help apart from one of the mods that sometimes I chat to but he's not interested in helping me, just laughing at me. So I'm not asking him for help again. <_<
  7. This is crazy. Today, I spent hours trying to update dayz and the beta patch. And finally seem to have done it. I then spent hours trying to find a server that had also been updated - I think I had 3 on my list. So I have now downgraded via dayzcommander and reinstalled the earlier versions for a few days until the servers are up to date. Oof! What a fuss! :) Thanks again for your help, everyone.
  8. Obviously I can see zombies but I like to know if they're popping up close to me (means building near by) or if on the server more widely - it's a handy warning. Also, knowing I have an infection/am ill before I start coughing myself to death, is a bonus too - as is noticing you're losing blood, as you don't always see it, especially at night.

    1.7.2.6 buggy?

Debug mode in other games I've played was for developers. But how are we going to know we have a temperature and need antibiotics? Or that we are losing blood - sometimes it's not obvious on screen, especially at night. Hmm stuff to think about!
  10. And of course, I don't understand any of this, all I know is I can't tell when zombies are spawning in the area. I don't have a debug option either. *is lost*
  11. Thanks Biohaze. I tried to get the latest beta patch and the latest dayz patch. I unzipped dayz patch file into my @dayz folder, which is where it's meant to go, as I understand it, and I unzipped the lastest beta patch to my beta subfolder. But I'm still getting an old arma version (the first one that started with 96.....) when I run arma CO. Stupid computers and horrible manual things. :( Why I can't I just press a button and everything updates?

    Newest Updates

Team-player, ignore Envirobear, he thinks you are asking for a list of all the changes the new upate has made to the game, unless that's what you are looking for. Otherwise, you probably need someone to explain to you the process of getting and updating with the latest patch but unfortunately, it's can be a little complicated. And a total bloody nightmare if, like me, you are not used to updating your computer. I just posted a similar but less positive thread in the surivor forum. I can never get dayz updates to go smoothly. There are youtube vids on updating dayz manually, via dayzlauncher, and by other means. It depends on how you play/access the game. Bludy, that's very helpful, thanks!
  13. Oh Fraggle, thanks but he was only teasing me. I downloaded the files manually using winrar and am trying to following - and adapt - a video, so hopefully, I'll get it right. It's just that it isn't letting point to the folder I want it to unzip in. Got to work that out first. To those who have misread what I wrote, thanks for the dayzcommander advice but I want to be able to run the game via steam and without dayzcommander and I am running it properely, without filters and being patient!
  14. Heskey, yes, of course. Lionheart. Thanks for trying to help. Biohaze, no idea what that means but thanks fro trying! It kind of assumes I have the new updated file and just need to put it some place, which isn't the case. *sighs miserabley* I appreciate you trying to help me, though. Thank you.
  15. That's my advice! If you've played a while and find you keep wanting to get up north to explore but are worried you might die or meet scary beasties - then just be brave and do it! I've started to run all over the map, and last night, while crossing a field, I spotted the light coming from a jeep and hit the ground, but then wondered why the jeep only had one light. Immediately I thought, nah, it can't be....but it was! Heli crash! :D Now, I've seen lots of videos on this stuff, so I know how it can take a team with snipers in the hills and ground men ready to get in once the zombies are all dead. So, I turned off running, hit x to crouch and slowly, I walked right up to the heli, picked up an AS50 and 3 clips, and walked away again. No one single zombie bothered me. And that's a miracle because they chase me from town to town even in the darkest of nights. So, it's worth being brave and NOT being greedy. I remember MikaelM told me that - don't be greedy. So I just took what I wanted and got away. See, that's what I like about dayz, just when I'm feeling a bit at a loss what to do because I can't meet my friend to tackle our vehicle project, something fun happens. Last time I saw a heli crash I got one of those FN Fals with a scope but only one clip. It's great to try new weapons, though the novelty soon wears off when you know you can't find ammo without finding heli crashes. But it's definitely worth the adventure if you've still not tried everything in day and if you're not a veteran player of a long time, who has done almost everything. :beans:
  16. Then you are likely a bandit and should be posting in their forum too. :emptycan: *mumbles and mutters* <_<
  17. Hi Willcyd, great story! If you're out in the open and what to leave the game for the day, find a pine tree (fir tree) and go prone under one of those. They can provide some cover as you spawn back into the game the next time. Most spawns are on the south coast or the southeast coast. Keep the ocean to your right side and you know you're travelling along and eventually up the coast. However, snipers tend to sit on the hills and kill new spawns, so be careful! I'd advise getting into one of the big cities, Cherno or Elektro, looting the stores and bars etc for a map, matches, compass etc and you're going to need the matches, a hunting knife, and a hatchet before you can hunt animals for yourself to free you from having to keep looting for tins of food. Good luck! Oh by the way, bit of advice, watch out for deadly bushes, walls, ladders and floors, that attack when you least expect it!

    Hello

Welcome to dayz, Mahiril. First, good luck with installing the game, that's often the first challenge. Second, be prepared to die a lot at first. It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong, it means you're doing it - and that's great. When you first spawn in dayz you don't have a weapon and you're going to need to find food and water too. It gets easier as you practice. The frustration can drive you nuts but you soon look forward to getting in there and finding what you need. :)

    Matches....gimme some matches!!

Great story, Peebeds. I just posted a similar story in the main survivor forum about being brave and getting out there to discover what is in Dayz, and the heli crash sites I found. I don't think you can start a fire until you get matches but once you find them they are infinite (big box eh?)! Go to one of the towns with a supermarket and keep going back until you see a little white and red box - it looks like a box of swan vesta matches. http://dayzdb.com/map#3.069.075 I think supermarkets are under "other" see the tabs on this map on the right - if you turn off everything else it will help to show the shopping trolleys on the map. :)
  20. Yes, and I should give you a good slap if you get into trouble again! *waves her slapping hand* And eat your greens! :P

why are so many children playing this game?

CoolCain, that's great and clearly this thread isn't about young people like you. Actually, this game is about people who are under 18 who the law says should not be playing this game But it evolved into criticisms of immature behaviour, which goes across all age groups.

why are so many children playing this game?

Ten minutes typing a reply then a tiny slip of the hand and my post has disappeared. :( I suppose it really doesn't matter if younger people play or not, and it doesn't matter if mods ban them from the forums - they can come back and pretend to be 18. Then we'll all know they're younger but they just won't be able to admit it. Maybe we have to grit our teeth and tolerate it, then when we've had a really bad day we can vent about it here and the rest of us will sypathise? :)

why are so many children playing this game?

Too many young people playing because no one stops them. Parents have no idea what their kids get up to anymore. Everyone thinks they are mature enough. BUT "mature enough" isn't just about you, it's about how you impact on other people too. Every kid thinks they're not a kid anymore and don't need to be told anything. I don't care how mature someone thinks they are. What I care about are things like: - Do you whine when someone else has a better weapon or item that you want? Do you go on and on and on about wanting or wishing you had it. Or do you accept that it isn't your and realise that if you listen and learn, one day you might get one too? - Do agree to things but rarely bother to do them? For exampe, agree to cover someone but not take it seriously because "it's just a game", "so what if you died, chill dude". Or when you give your word do you stick to it and do what you said you would? - Do you agree to meet someone but then not bother to show up because "it's just a game" or "or went to get dinner" or some other reason you didn't bother to plan ahead to take into account your commitments? - Do you appreciate what other people have done for you, and then take time out to return those kindnesses? Or is your first thought for yourself and what you can get?

    *RADIO TRANSMISSION*

Mr Zero, some great ideas and suggestions. Not sure why you're being attacked for such a reasonable suggestion. I read a month or so ago that there were plans for the radio in dayz. Of course, that might change now it's no longer Rocket's top priority. Still, nice idea. :beans:
  25. Hi, sorry I can't help as I just gave mine away to another player 2 days ago but I wanted to let you know I've seen them spawn some place south - probably a fire station?
