 Welcome to dayz all our lovely new bambies! :) thecrawly - I'm a non-programmer to but I was told that arma's easy to access so that we can make our own mods or maps easily but that it makes servers vulnerable to hackers too. Arma 2.5 will be different, and I think that's what the standalone dayz game will be written in (or is that arma 3? hmm I think it's 2.5)

AMF you can kill someone with tin cans! Hard work though. Quite funny to see someone bouncing a tin can off another player's head. :D And zomebies too, and if you lob tin cans at a vehicle it will explode! True. :) That's very poor of vilayer. They should get their act together. I wish we had a thumbs down icon for right now! <_<

Yet another unhelpful, off topic post. :| Silver, if you're still stuck and haven't asked for help in the medic thread, I suggest you do so. You'll know then if anyone, who actually can fly and has access to a helicopter, is willing to help you. Good luck.

That's why I think it was either the admin of the server or a hacker. I was saving it a lot! And it was there last night but now is gone. Not many play on the server and it's now become a particular clan's. So maybe they didn't like me using it. While I get the chance I want to say thanks to the admin of a different server - UK69. A couple of nights ago he and another guy welcomed my friend and I to their server, and then offered us a lift in their heli and took us up to Stary. And the stuff I found on THAT server is still there because they were nice guys who don't take your stuff. Actually, if there's anyone from that server reading this - I'd like to know if they have a payment system for small donations towards running costs. I appreciate a safe environment to play in and it's a good UK server.

Tenty's gone! I'm standing in the space right now! He's just not there. I've run round the tree a dozen times but he isn't re-appearing. :(

Ooh Merrfack, that's eevil (with two Es it's that eevil). :D Thanks for the warning, King. I had no idea tents even had teeth! :o Oh Bubster! Avoid bikes! ^_^ Maybe I should just sit next to my tent forever, just to make sure it's safe. Hipax and Steak & taters - thank you both! HighSpiral, thanks for the advice. I had no idea about loot exploding across the field! Thanks for the sympathy too. Oh poor little empty Tenty. *sighs* External, that's what I assumed happened. It's a very quiet server. I'm afraid I suspect the admin even before hackers - who'd want my beans and a few clips? I think it's more a malicious prank than a need for beans. <_<

Yep, well sort of but you're as right as you need to be. Imagine company X decides it wants to rent out servers to Joe, Lucy, Pete and Dave. Joe hires 3 servers from company X and he has 2 run dayz Chernarus and 1 runs Lingor Island. So Joe has a hive and he calls it Dazzle Servers, the servers being called UK #001 UK #002 and UK #003 When you join #001 OR #002 Joe has set it up so that you carry the same character across both his servers, so you can play on either and be in the same place with the same stuff on either one. Of course, on #003 Lingor Island is running, so you get a different character to play on that one. Pete hires 3 servers too from Company X and they all run dayz Chernarus but Pete sets up his servers so they are each separate hives. Each server is a hive on its own. He calls his servers Blissful Servers Numbers #1 #2 #3 and #4 So when you enter any of Pete's servers you spawn as a new character and you can't carry things across from one to another. That isn't how it works in truth but it is how it looks to work, from a user's point of view, when you're working out where to play. My advice is keep a written note of exactly which servers you play on. Though it's getting harder as some don't even have a unique server name any more. <_< Good luck! PS sorry this post sounds like a maths test question.

Hipax! *slaps Hipax* Bad Hipax, bad! *waves finger at you* Nice tents don't guide people to hell! They guide you to pretty fields, with babbling brooks! Toastedzen, lovely! I'd offer you a can of beans but Tenty's been emptied remember. :(

When I spawned in today my charicter is gone!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You're probably on the wrong server, dear. Can you remember the name of the server you were on yesterday? If it's a different hive then you're in the wrong map. You have to find where you were and go there for yesterday's character. But well done on posting such a creatively spelled thread. :beans: Perhaps we could start a whip-round and buy him a copy of warz? It might be worth it! -
Doesn't a "request to be moved to a playable area" sound similar to being transported? If it's an option, then I'd say look into it and ask the mods or admin here can help you. Good luck!
-
Yes, there's a middle ground. You can join lots of different hives and have different lives on each but remember that in a hive you can travel across its servers as the same character. So it's similar to the official hive in that respect.

So Adam and his three other quadruplets joined 4 times eh? ;) I would like to join, hang on I'll see if I can get this done tonight!

No problem. Good luck with finding someone. Maybe you could ask in the medic thread?

The best way to learn is to go into Arma 2 and work your way through the tutorials and the scenarios too - they're a lot of fun and very useful. Best thing I ever did was working through those. Don't get me wrong, some were tricky - and I'm still not through all of them but it was great fun and I learned so much about weapons, vehicles, parachuting, how to fly helicopters and planes - lots of great stuff. I bought Arma 2 just for dayz but now I play that regularly too. And it's helps so much with dayz. Fantastic game, and in my view, many of the best players are ex arma 2 players. DevilDogGamer, Nooby Noobster... Those guys have excellent gun skills. (Not me of course, I'm still learning) Good luck.

Hi Selmack! Matches are infinite, so you only need one box. 3Kout gave some great advice. Remember to have 2 spaces free in your inventory so you can harvest the wood from a tree when you want to make a fire. You've done so much in such a little time. I was very cautious, not at all brave when I started to play. Have you saved your tractor by rolling your mouse wheel and selecting "save" from the menu? Sometimes you have to move around the vehicle to make the option appear in the list. Also, if you select "gear" from the menu it will be a list of your inventory on the right and the vehicle's storage area on the left. So anything on the left is what was in your tractor when you found it. And you can move stuff across to and from the vehicle storage too. Alternatively, when sitting in the vehicle, hit M and bring up the map. Then click Units on the left and click Gear on the right. That way you can move things around in the car, where zombies won't attack as they go docile when you're in a vehicle. Sounds to me like you're becoming a great survivor! Good luck! :)

Hahaha! Good point, Drunk in Cherno! ;)

Stuck walking... have to double tap W to run?
Sula replied to Penny Sue's topic in New Player Discussion
There's a "hold breath" key? :o I have this problem too but I never use the wasd keys - can't reach over there without pressing the wrong keys. I use my arrow keys. I've been thinking of trying a different set up, as I want to move more quickly between C and X, and between run and walk, with one key. I hope your problem's sorted. Good luck, Penny Sue  -
No, he means waypoints. When looking at a map, if you place your cursor where you want to mark, while holding down the left shift button, click your left mouse button, Lshift+LMB. The pale black circle that appears where you clicked is your waypoint. Only you can see it. However, while holding down the Left Shift Button, if you double clicked your LMB instead, it turns into what looks like a hand written circle done with a black marker pen and you get a box to enter text too, such as "vehicle here" BUT everyone can see it. Often people set traps that way. Yes, everyone knows about waypoints and marking the map. No idea about differences in speed for zombies or for levels of violence. Basically, they're all best avoided and can kill you with a single lucky swipe if your blood is low. Never try to run when crouched if you've been spotted by a zombie - all zombies can catch you if you do that. If you're just running away then you can try a mix of hitting C, and X as and when you want to speed up or hide a little, and if using crouched running, find lots of cover by zigzagging around various walls, or find a bush or pine tree and go prone under it. Zombies seem to have an allergyy to them and wander off if you lie under one for long enough. Getting into a vehicle is also useful, even getting on a bicyle as the latest version of dayz seems to have confused them. They get bored and go docile. Of course, they'll still chase you if you drive/ride off but they won't attack. Though I'm sure that will be fixed come the next update. Map distance - last time I timed it, it took me roughly 4 to 5 minutes to run 500 metres. About 9 minutes for a kilometre. I'm sure some will disagree. Good luck.

Welcome to dayz, AMF3! What a fantastic first weapon! Mine was a makarov, totally useless. I still remember the first time I ever played. My god I was sick with anticipation, fear and excitement. I remember shaking as I signed out in Elektro that first night. Great stuff. Have lots of fun and ask if you have any questions. Remember, you're going to die - a lot - so enjoy yourself! :beans: PS. Elysion, what? Heheheh!

Can't be south-west as there's no water out there. Is it the tiny island that's about 10-20 mins boat ride from the mainland, or another? If you want someone to collect you then they're going to need to know where you are. So it could prove tricky. But I'm sure someone could help, though it's a difficult job because they'll need plenty of fuel and an excellent pilot. (Maybe a medic, as you're dying of thirst/hunger?) It's possible some of the guys here would be willing to come help you. There are some really nice people in this forum and continue to be amazed at their generosity. My friend and I had a couple of really nice guys take us from the coast to the Stary last night in their helicopter. Was so nice to find friendly people playing on a server who were polite and helpful. Good luck, mate. I hope you make it.

Hi Pullarn, welcome to dayz. To add a little more information, you will only carry stuff over each time you join a server if it's part of the same hive of servers (a hive is a group of servers that have the same mission playing and share the same host). So the mission "dayz" is the official hive of official dayz servers. There are other hives (or groups of servers, where you share a character across them) their mission is "dayz Chernarus". Some hives run other maps instead of Chernarus, such as Lingor Island and Panthera.

That was far more reasonable of you than I deserved! Thank you. My apologies for saying your poll was daft. That was daft of me. I'd take away my own beans if I could!
-
But remember, people will kill you just because they're bored, so don't be surprised to be slaughtered repeatedly for ghillies or backpacks etc.

I usually play as a female because it just feels natural but sometimes the game just ignores my wishes and make me male. I don't mind either way really. As long as I get to run around the hills singing The Hills Alive With the Sound of Music, I'm happy.

Well spotted, Jason. Guidez summed it up perfectly. :beans:
