  1. Acid, are you in the official hive, or a private one? It's important to know, as it can mean more or less people being able to help you.
  2. Darakthorn, private servers are the same as official servers in that they are not passworded. Passworded servers are passworded and that's all. I play in open servers but I play low pop. If you play in high pop, expect problems. Like i said, I've never had problems with hackers in all the many months I've been playing. I've come across a few skiddies but they're just silly children wanting to show off because they don't know any better. There are thousands of servers, just move to another.
  3. Journeyman, that's understandable. I'm the same. Sometimes I think I'd go mad if it weren't for Mr Potato. Wouldn't I, Mr Potato? Yes, that's right.

    Hey guys

Might help if you stated your age, where in the world you're located, how many weeks/months you've been playing, and whether you're looking to play as a nice survivor or want to PvP or in between etc...
  5. I wouldn't know as I've never killed, or even shot at another player.
  6. Sounds like a great server but you haven't given any details of where to find it. You mention your website for people who use teamspeak so I had a quick look there but saw no information on how to get to the server. Or is the server private/passworded for people who join your website? Sorry but it's not clear from your post. Thanks.
  7. Where are you and what sort of age are you? If you're based in the US timing can be tricky and if you're 11, sorry but I've had enough babysitting in this game to last me a life time. Also, if you're English and you're likely to want to disappear with your mates after 6 weeks to go build vehicles, then please do that right away instead. Other than that, sure I'd be interested!
  8. Excelsior, I've been playing since May or June and I have never seen a hacker. I did once get transported to another part of the map but that's it. So anyone saying hacking is a problem is talking about the past. Battleye is dealing with most of the hacking problems and if you play on private servers (they're free and easy to access) you will have no problems. So you should not consider hacking an issue at all. As to bugs and glitches, there are a few, so what? There always are in most games. Just get the game and have fun! No point in waiting for the standalone. It's not like that's going to be perfect. Nothing is. Like I said, just play the game and enjoy, it's worth it.
  9. Yes, that's me! Skipping through Elektro, as I do, on low pop servers. Suddenly, I heard something I'm not used to - a loud *bang* near my ear. And then another, and another! At first I thought a zombie had exploded but then something happened....my instincts kicked in and I started running, moving unpredictabley. The shots continued, for that is what they were. Then pew-pew, a quieter gun! Someone to my right was sniping at me from the hill! There were two of them after me! Me? And I'm so nice! I started ducking behind walls, cutting over fences, and then worked my way out of Elektro, moving fast all the time, keeping bushes and trees between me and the direction of the shots. I didn't stop to look back. Then I heard the helicopter! The whole bloody server was a small team and they were after me! :o I didn mention how nice I am, right? :o So I crouched under a fir tree because the helicopter was scanning the area for me. As they moved to sniper hill, where the sniper shots had come from, I saw someone parachute out and that's when I started to run again - always making sure I could see my next cover before running because I didn't want that helicopter to get sight of me. I wasn't in combat, I could have left but I was angry and resented that these gutless cowards were trying to kill me for no reason. For what, my m1911? So I kept going, and despite their helicopter, advanced weapons and ground troops, they failed to find me. Score one to the lone survivor! Mind you, I did call them a bunch a gutless maggots and called all snipers cowards. So at least I got that "shot" in. Now if I could just learn to shoot and hit things, all would be going perfectly! <_<
  10. It's great to so many people playing DayZ. I looked down my list of servers last night and was amazed at how many were full. Yep, actually full. And there were many with one or two spaces too, and then pages of them with over 15 players! It's getting hard to play a quiet, lone wolf game these days. But that's great too! :D  The UK seems to have suddenly gone mad on DayZ. Maybe I'm just noticing it more but the UK servers seem much busier than previous months. What about your country?
  11. Yes, setayn, the east coast - that's Essex. *waves to Jaytmuk*

    A Hunted Woman!

Ah yes. That is very low, killing new spawns. But some people just care about getting the highest number of kills. That's why I get annoyed when people call this a PvP combat game. I thought it was meant to be a survival game! I went back to the same server today for about half an hour but it was quiet. A couple of them turned up but they don't communicate, as they're too busy on skype or teamspeak. Of course, that's how I'll catch them out, eventually. BuahahAHAHHARRRRRR! *cough cough* Excuse me.

    A Hunted Woman!

I love your enthusiasm but sadly, I'm not Tom Hanks and didn't have a film crew with me. I know, I always forget something important! ;)
  14. What Essex? Oh I'm sure some people play it there.

    Survivor Guilt.

You did not have to kill a friend, you chose to for the lowest reasons possible. You feel guilty? Good, you should. And you've lost a friend. Was it worth it?

    I'm having a difficult time

Zombies most certainly can see you very well at night, so don't be surprised to be attacked and remember, you won't be able to see well either! Good luck.

    Lower Gun

For the love of god, why do people answer questions that have already been answered?

    why is this so erratic?

These guys are right, I'm sure. You have to be able to identify official hive servers from the private hive servers. Both are permitted, in fact private hive servers seem to be actively encouraged. There's good and bad in that but that's another topic. All servers running dayz are official hive (linked to the same hive, so you have the same character in all of them). All servers running dayz chernarus are private hive servers. Now there are lots of private hives, not just one. So you need to write down or make note of which server you play in as you will have a different character in each hive. A hive is a linked set of servers. So you might find that in lots of BLISS servers you have the same character (but there are some BLISS servers that are separate hives, so you'd have a different character in each). And you might find you have the same character in netrado.net servers, or vilayer.com servers. If that doesn't make sense let me know, and I'll find another way to put it. It can be very confusing when you first play. And you do need to know where you're playing for things like tents and vehicles, so it's important. Also, it might be worth downloading dayz commander if you haven't already. It keeps note of recent servers you played on, and that's help. By the way, finding no weapons is all part of the fun, as is dying non-stop. It did that for 2 weeks and I will never forget (and sadly never re-live) those first, early moments of fear, excitement and panic when coming across zombies or players. :beans:
  19. Hi Rich, have you tried this: Go into arma2 or dayz, which might be a bit more risky what with all the zombies, and click on the video option. Then at the bottom of the screen, where the advanced settings are, turn down everything to low but leave your resolution high. I had the same problem for months and now I have no problems usually - unless I entrer a high ping server, then it's like walking in mash potato.
  20. Those little worthless islands are places you will spawn. Sooner or later, you're going to have to swim to the mainland. Don't put tents there unless you want them raided or destroyed regularly! :beans:
  21. I've had some great times lately, found my first ever gps and two tents! I thought they'd disappeared from the game forever! But a couple of days ago I died in every hive I was playing too. That's just the way it goes sometimes, isn't it? So what happened to me lately is, a couple of times and just now - I was in the game when suddenly the screen goes black and then I'm back on my desktop but a stretched one - like it's not at the right resolution, so I only see a part of the screen - but I can still hear the game playing. When I alt-tab to my desktop it looks normal but when I try to go back into the game (which I can still hear just fine) I just see the stretched version of my desktop. Annoyingly, it just happened while I was being chased by zeds, so I think I just died. :( Have you had this happen to you? I have to close down the game and start it back up again. I don't like not knowing why these things happen. I wonder if it's arma2 or dayz commander (which I notice has now stopped displaying who is playing on each server - annoying!) or something else. So I better start up the game again and start my search for an axe yet again! I'd be intererested in hearing if you've had similar happen to you. But also, more generally, have you found anything lately that you hadn't seen in a while? I searched for animals for two days and then killed 2 cows, 3 pigs, 2 goats and a sheep!

    I'm having a difficult time

xw10, Harlico's is sensible advice that will help you practice improving your skills. Ignore people who say "it's easy". It isn't. That's like saying rocket science is easy - only if you're good at it. I'd suggest you watch every video you can find on youtube but I'd start with Nooby Noobster's youtube page because he's funny, sweet, kind and a deadly killer with a gun or an axe. You can learn a lot from him but until you put it into practice you won't start to get better. Good luck, mate.

    confused about cfg files..

I've never had any need to mess with my .cfg files. What are you trying to achieve? Smoothing? Perhaps there's another way. I go into video options and turn down most of it to low, but still run at high resolution and have no problems now. I will have a look at the specifics and post them next time I'm I play.

    GB#500 New player banned?

Hi Marjo, sadly, when you allow private servers that is the crap you have to put up with - unprofessional, irresponsible kids with the power of gods. I think there's nothing you can do because once some fool has labelled you, you're stuck. You're not banned official from all official servers by Dayz just by whomever it was over-reacted in their state of paranoia. Good luck, mate. Oh and make sure you know the keys better before you play again. I heard of someone who got banned for clicking on the server option in lobby of a server. Shouldn't have the bloody button if they don't want it clicked.

    Battle-eye

Moved? where? If you don't tell him where you moved it to, how's he meant to know that? And how are we to see it and be able to provide help? Honestly, the culture here is just inherantly unhelpful. Other forums leave a marker in a forum, showing where a thread has been move to. Troubleshooting might make sense to you but not necessarily to a bambi.
