I feel for you, muffin. Did you upgrade to 1.7.4.4? I've lost all my tents on many various servers. Nothing left. All because of upgrades. Oh tell a lie, not just because of upgrades but also mainly because of AND I HOPE SO ADMINS READ THIS - admins changing maps without giving any notice! *sighs wearily* :(

What I can't understand is I've had no problem playing as a female character and choosing female on many servers during 1.7.3. It's just since yesterday and the latest version that I'm a man in all the servers. I'm a woman and I like playing as a female character, so I do hope it can be fixed. :thumbsup: One of the things I admire about the female skin in Dayz is she's a real female character, not just a pair of giant breasts in an underwired wire and her ass hanging out of ther jeans. :beans: I forgot to mention that when I was playing this evening, everyone who tried to pick up clothing/skins was immediately kicked from the server.

Well this is new to me. I kill a lot of animals. That's what I do most of the time I'm in DayZ, I just hunt. Hey, it makes me happy, it really does. :thumbsup: But until yesterday, I'd never heard a cow moo before in DayZ. I've killed 4 cows since then and they made the most horrible mooing sound when I killed them. Could it be my axe? I didn't want to use my 5 as50 bullets but god the sound is horrible. I'm not going to sleep tonight, am I? It'll be the Silence of the Cows! Have you heard it? :huh:

Knowing me, I shall be posting threads about not understanding how to install the game but once that's done I will be trying to do my usual: searching half the map for a box of matches and and a compass! God, I hope you still need matches and a compass. I don't think I could cope with not having to spend half my day searching for a compass. :o *loves her compass*

Hi Pawlzz, the way I've been working it out is to look in the server description. The private hives seem to have the words Private Hive and Chernarus in the description. Where as the official servers don't. Also, the mission tends to be dayz on official hives and on private ones it's dayz-chernarus. You can't transfer items across from one hive to another. So that means not between official hive servers and a private hive servers, nor between different hives. There are benefits to official servers and private servers. You can't guarantee that the private hive admins will always be adults, let alone be fair and just. But they are much less prone to scripter kiddies. That said, like you, I've never really had a problem with them. If you like an even playing ground then that's the official servers. The whole point of private hives is they are free to do what they like in some ways. So they can add more vehicles, for example. :thumbsup:

Blunt, I haven't said people cannot post here before playing dayz/arma! I think that's a little unfair of you. I have always been welcoming to new players. It just seems somewhat bad taste to turn up as a new member to a forum and actively encourage us to go elsewhere to talk about dayz, when that is what our forum is for. But I think Orlok has summed up what I meant in a much better way than me. :thumbsup:

AngryOfficer, sorry, I'm still not with you. Is it a film? Really? I thought that was what Clan/Group Recruitment was for! I've always come here as I think of it as the Survivors' HQ, place for us to talk about survivors' dayz days. I only just found out quite recently that there is a more general discussion forum "above" this! :) (I think I interpretted "link up with other survivors" in a more general sense) ;) I'll have to have another read up of forum structure. Yes but they can ice-skate at great speed on grass! So frequently, they manage to escape my axe, the lucky things. Angryofficer - no idea what you're talking about. It's here because I'm a survivor and I noticed that the cows are mooing in dayz when I kill them. :thumbsup:

I know, it's all gone twighlight-zone, spooky! :o Is it just me? I've never heard it before yesterday, I swear. And I kill a lot of cows - almost every single one I come across as soon as I can gut 'em I kill 'em! Yet they're mooing loudly now! Almost jumped out of my skin when it started mooing away, probably yelling to other cows for help. :huh:

Been killing them for months but never a sound, then yesterday a loud, very loud MOOOOOOOO! :o Same again today. :huh: Kimberlah, that was great! *hides under bed until cows return to own planet* :thumbsup: Mind you, they still didn't moo as loudly as the ones in dayz have started mooing!

And I want to drive a Rolls Royce. :) I'm sure you'd like to team up with such people but what do you have to offer in exchange? ;) Maybe join a clan? :thumbsup:

What versions do you have? Also, you say "none work" but give us specific details of what you are doing and what is happening etc...

Blunty - you saying that ver ...3 doesn't let you spawn in as female? I'm pretty sure I spawned in as female yesterday on one server. Though I've always found it unpredictable. Some servers just automatically make my character male.

I play on private servers too but most are not whitelisted or passworded! You just enter them as you do any server but the main difference to keep in mind is that when you join a server that has "private hive" and "chernarus" in the title you are not playing your official dayz character and will start a new character on that server's hive (a hive is a group of linked servers). The only truly frustrating thing about private hives is they can be unpredicatable and you have no one to complain to if things go wrong - such as an immature admin killing players. (Has happened to me a number of times) By unpredictable here's an example of what I mean: according to dayzcommander I spent yesterday playing only Namalsk servers, which I didn't. I don't play Namalsk - it's just that the admins on the servers where I played have today changed to the namalsk map without warning. So I've lost everything I had on those servers. And it happens repeatedly every day, servers down, maps changed, On the plus side, a good active admin can make all the difference to the game, and passworded whitelist servers means little chance of hackers getting in! :thumbsup:

...all because I am obsessed with finding two things: a tent and night vision goggles. I gave up on the tent about a month or more ago. After ten days of survival, I returned to the nw and ne airfields yesterday. Today I died when I got greedy and tried to get to a helicopter crash, in search of those NVGs. But what upset me more was leaving a player alone when I found him looting with his back to the door, telling him I was friendly, walking away when I could have killed him with my axe, only to find he had followed me and then shot me in the back, emptying a whole clip into me, to make sure I was dead. No matter how often I play this game, I cannot and I will not understand how players can kill other players like this. They have no honour and no justification, only excuses to try to explain their cowardly actions. It's times like this that we need a thumbs down sign. :| No beans. :emptycan:

I got ready to kill another player today. Not something I've ever even thought of doing in all these months but today someone was shooting at me, and so badly it offended me. Eventually, I walked away - literally. They were a bad shot. :thumbsup:

...finding a perfect condition helicopter ready to fly in Cherno - though I couldn't find any fuel for two days! ...finding two Mountain Dews. ...seeing a goat pass by as I was dying of hunger with stomach icon flashing. I thought I was hallucinating! Never enjoyed steak so much before! ...coming across a friendly and talkative player who didn't want to know where I was and then kill me. ...finding 6 helicopter crashes and coming away with SAW 249s, FN-Fals day and night versions, and a silenced Bizon, what a beauty of a gun! :thumbsup: So really, it's been a great week for me in DayZ. What about you Dayz week? How's yours been going? Not always easy when your new, but tell us about it! :)

Crikey! What a busy lot. I liked every one of those posts. I'm looking forward to hear what else folk have to say. I just played on a Valkyries server. They were very friendly and welcoming. The admin seemed nice and they have a rule of no killing in churches, which was always the rule of war in the real world. So I liked a lot too. :thumbsup:
