God no don't delete and re-install anything. You've just got to think through what you have done. Can you give me specifics. What versions do you have of dayz mod and of the patch?

Thanks, Final. I'll have those beans for lunch!

MODDB - Vote DayZ MOTY - TOP100 Chosen - Vote Here.
Sula replied to zenorc123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Voted. Had no idea I was a member already. Guests can only vote once every 3 minutes so if one guest votes then no others can for 3 mins. I checked and it told me I had an account, so I got a password reminder and voted. -
CommunityDev - "Private" hive testservers
Sula replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
All I got was kicked with the "bad version, server rejected connection" message, sadly. -
An underground construction would be great, and lockable would be even better. One thing I've always felt is missing from the mod is a sense of home - a place to go sometimes, where you can just stock take your stuff and admire your loot without risk of being sniped!

I've no idea about restrictions, often wonder what they mean, myself. Why not contact the server's admin, if they have contact details available? More likely than hacking, I'd guess something needs updating but I'm only guessing.

Whats so entertaining about this mod?
Sula replied to Tomeusz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hi Tomeusz, I know it can be frustrating when you play alone at first but eventually, you learn to survive. My latest life has lasted 56 days, so it possible to survive alone. Most days I go out hunting and then head off to an airfield, town or deer stand for ammo and provisions, or to explore a place. But people are right, playing solo and playing with a team each have advantages and disadvantages. It's easy to find people to play with but it can take time to find the right group for you. Keep trying and don't give up. It's a wonderful game because it's so open and you aren't forced to achieve things like quests. -
you are running an incorrect version of DAYZ_CODE
Sula replied to Axxassin's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
So are you saying you already have the latest version of the dayz mod? It says you are running an earlier version. Is that right? -
Fraggle, yes any digital download company would be the same, which is why some people prefer had copies but they too have pros and cons. I focused my comments on Steam because it is the chosen delivery method, and because of my day-to-day use of it, which has resulted in my holding ambivalent views. But as I said in my previous posts, I am not against Steam. It makes sense to use it, I can see that. It's quick, effective and efficient. No, I don't think you can simply use Steam to download the game and then not use it to play but as I said, I'm a layman not technical, to be honest. But there are things I can't do with Steam that I know LVG can. He often snorts and mutters "noob" at me for not knowing how to do things like turn on privacy settings. :D I spent a number of years working on software development projects, in roles including change manager, and technical author. One thing I learned was, change is inevitable. It's perfectly natural to resist change but the sooner you can accept change and get used to it the better because resistance truly is futile and won't make anyone happy.

I think it's a great idea. It has nothing to do with laziness. I get a lot of pain in my joints, especially wrists - as will you lot when you're in your ancient twenties, crippled by your keyboards and controllers! Holding down a key for running can be painful. There are times when my finger hurts like the worst ever booboo! :( *holds up finger so you can all kiss it better....waggle waggle*

That's perfectly described by TheDuriel, much better than my description. The "ts" sound isn't like in tsar, it's softer and sounds like someone with a lisp whispering church but you know it's not ch, it sounds like a very soft ts where you might expect a ch to be found in English. OK, I'm wittering now. Goodnight! :beans:
-
I've been pronouncing like Jelly but with a Ch like in church, and a slightly quicker ee sound than Jelly.Chell-e like maybe the e in Italian latte. Edit - yep, it's German and prounced the way I thought but in a much more gentle and elegant way than my English can do. I studied German and French for a few years but it was a long time ago. So I kind of understood how it might sound in German, French or Italian (as I have Italian friends and grew up around many Italian people). And yet I still managed to make it sound more like jelly than anything else. Mjp808, I'm over my quota of beans for the day or I'd have given you some for that one! :beans: Object 2 or Object all. I've heard both but which is correct? I've no idea!

How respawn in earth after hack/teleport in the water ?
Sula replied to Malolan's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm so sorry we couldn't help you, Malolan! Please post sooner, if it happens again! Perhaps another admin could help? Hmm, maybe we can have a think about this one. Anyone got any ideas, as I know it happens to other people too? Thanks. -
Hi Witless, welcome to the DayZ forums. You need Arma-Combined Operations - actually it's the arrowhead part you need, if you already have arma2. (cost depends on where you live) and the latest patch for it from http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php. Then you need the alpha version of the DayZ mod. http://dayzmod.com/ Those and Dayzcommander (great game loader that lets you find the best servers) should get you started. Have a look at the sticky threads in this forum as there are video/youtube guides on how to install the game. Also, tell us which country you're in and we might be able to suggest a friendly first server. Best of luck. Ask if you've any more questions. :beans: Apologies, I see you've already done the first part.

Fraggle, I do use steam, and I admit my heart sank when I read the original interviews where Rocket mentioned steam (and minecraft). Truth is, when things go right that's great but I have two concerns: First most UK (and probably other countries too, I don't know) don't have great broadband. It can take 10+ hours to download a game overnight, only to find it didn't work. Second, boy when things go wrong on steam they go very wrong. A couple of days ago I bought 3 games via steam. One is incompatible with windows 7 64 bit, and last night I attempted to play one, Bioshock. Might not be everyone's taste but it's a hugely popular game and it was cheap in the sale. Here's what is worrying me, and may well be what worries other steam users. I loaded the game and began to play and in under 5 minutes my computer died. No desktop because windows had shut itself down on discovering a "serious" error. I got a blue screen of death message suggesting that if I had recently installed software the problem was likely there and I was advised to restart my computer in safe mode and to contact the software supplier. In my experience, I have never once had a reply from Steam that wasn't some bot telling me to restart my computer. Another example, less than 2 months ago dozens of us were posting that we couldn't get arma or dayz to work because Steam had died and refused to let us sign in. So that's the kind of things that make me a little cautious. However, I'm not worrying about it because it is what it is - decided. No point is being miserable something I can't change, and I can see the clear argument for using Steam. It makes sense. As the song goes, Que sera, sera!

I'm glad you posted this poll, R4ZR49. It has made me think about my ambivalence to the L85 and also about the wider long-term impact on DayZ game-play, should we lose it. For example, if the L85 goes - and I just voted for it to be replaced by something else, not because that's what I want but because I want as few snipers and PvPers as possible to have access to night-vision when regular players don't have access. But it goes both ways, they'll lose out too. So maybe I voted the wrong way. Time will tell. Here are a few of my thoughts on the L85's staying/going and its impact on the game: NVGs are ridiculously and inexplicably hard to find in DayZ, which means many people don't want to play at night as it makes them cannon fodder for those who managed to hack or duplicate a pair. (Has anyone ever actually found a pair? I haven't. Like most people mine were given to me from another player's camp. I assumed they were valid but who really knows?) That's why daytime only servers show up, and why these new private hives are so well loved. Many give you NVGs, some give you more but many just give you NVGs so everyone can play on a night server. I like that a lot, it stops the advantage going to what I call the lowest of the low - bandits and such. So, if the L85 goes - we lose the only other way to get night-time vision without NVGs. How will that impact upon the game? How will those who join a server at night, find their way out of a forest, for example, if they don't have the L85 or the impossibly hard to find NVGs? You could argue they should carry chemi-lights or flares but those things are deadly adverts that say "come kill me", and who has the room in most backpacks? More generally, I think any removal of a significant item from the game is worth considering in the wider context, asking how it will impact on player enjoyment and on game popularity too. Issues in isolation are easy to vote for but that doesn't mean that everyone has considered the impact of the loss of the L85 more widely on the game, such as what's left for players to use to survive at night while on the move and trying to avoid bandits. Also, can I assume you mean in the standalone game, assuming community developers may well choose to re-add the gun to the mod at a later date, along with possibly taking the mod in different directions?

Hi Shaoe, welcome to the DayZ forums! However, you choose to play, have fun! :beans: Congratulations to Hestaine on making the most disturbing post I've ever read in these forums. *loads gun*

I'm New here and Hoping to download:
Sula replied to FreeHunter9119's topic in New Player Discussion
Hi Freehunter, yes payment is required. The DayZ mod is free, and there is a version of ArmaII that is also free but you need ArmaII-Combined Operations or Operation Arrowhead and that has to be bought. -
Rocket, you said you would try to answer some questions but mainly people seem to be paying compliments, which is great considering the amount of hard work you and the team have put in. I do have a couple of questions. I'm a novice when it comes to software and to computers in general. So change tends to scare me a little. Are you able to reassure the worriers like me about a couple of points please? - I think you mentioned a re-think of the controls. Like most players, I've not been involved in testing the standalone, do you feel they are at least as intuitive as the current mod's controls, if not better? - Also, you began by explaining that most settings would be forced server side. Like many, I don't have the option of a good standard of broadband. How wil those settings being forced server side impact on latency/ping/and the experience of those of us who have mediocre broadband? I don't mean in detail but in very simple, basic terms? Thanks

Bogulez, only if you want to stop DayZ working! Arma 2's Operation Arrowhead is necessary for the game to run. -
Hi Ghoast! Welcome to DayZ. Oh boy you are in for a double treat. First, you're about to go through the initiation of being tormented by repeated death that everyone goes through when they first play DayZ, and then you have the added joy of experiencing Arma, which I came to the same way as you, to get DayZ. Being new to both is a little bit more of a challenge. My tips for when you first spawn are: C to stand up (and be easier to see), X to crouch lower (but it's slower than C when you run) and Z to go prone and crawl. Double tap Shift to toggle run/walk. Mix 'em up and stay clear of those zombies! First things to do are find a hatchet, then hit G and right click on the hatchet. Select, "Remove from toolbelt". When you close your inventory the hatchet will be in your hand but you have to "load" it by hitting R. It is not a fast repeater. You get one shot and then there's a delay! So hit zombies a second before you think you should. Then look for cans of food and water, a hand gun and or rifle - some are worse than others for noise, and attracting more zombies! Good luck and feel free to ask questions.

Hi Ballz. I play DayZ pretty much every day, sometimes for up to ten hours. During that time I have never had the need to kill another player. I play on dozens of different servers and have rarely been shot at but it does happen. When it does, I post about it at the forums because it's quite a shock. Remember people who say DayZ is a PvP game are wrong. It is a - and oh how I hate to use the phrase - a sandbox environment. That means it's a place to play any damn way you want to play. It's a survival game, and I'm proof you can do that without killing other players. You don't have to PvP but for those who want to there are many servers full of PvPers killing each other but there are just as many servers that are more friendly. I agree, low pop servers tend to be more friendly but you are just as likely to meet killers there too. You have to guage the situation, like in any game, and ask, what's best? If I say "Hi" to a player and he doesn't respond, I assume he's a bandit. If he says "supdudezlolzwhereareyou?whereareyou?lolzwhereareyou?lolllllzzzz", I assume he's 1) 12 years old and 2) wants to kill me. I see so many people dying from being friendly to these kids. Anyway, tell me where in the world you're located and I'll see if I know any relatively friendly servers

100+ vehicles friendly server looking for clever players
Sula replied to Cladicus's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I was in there earlier (5.30am or so I think) It was pitch black. I had to give up in the end. Evil zombies tried to eat my face just because I wanted the guns in their airport. I had to leave 'em behind. And, AND someone stole my car! I left it under a tree. As you do. Perfectly safe place, I assumed. <-- *is total fool* Can you believe it? In DayZ? Looting and theft? I mean the streets just aren't safe any more. Actually, it was very dark. I should go back and double check, in case I'm mistaken. -
Downloading Combined Operations as we speak, not new to Arma, but new to DayZ so a couple of questions: 1. Will the option to play DayZ be a seperate desktop Icon, or included in the Steam Library, or in the Arma 2 Menu as an option? No but you don't need one. I used to use steam to right click on Combined Ops and choose Run Arrowhead but the steam menu changed and I haven't tried it since. It now says Operation Arrowhead, so presumably you can launch the game from there. However, like others, I strongly recommend you download a programme like dayzcommander, which does it all for you. It even lets you update the patches software quickly and easily. You just run it and select which server you want to play on. 2. Is it possible to play just on my own? (I know it sounds sad) No single player but I play solo a lot of the time. If I see a bambi dying repeatedly at the coast, I might pop down there to help them out or meet up with a pal for a few hours but in the main, I play alone. Not always safe or easy. I'm hoping that come the standalone game there will eventually be a chance to play single player or even just to run your own private server, like you can in Combined Ops. 3. How would i go about creating an empty, private lobby just for mates? I don't think you can but what most people do is talk to mates during the game via teamspeak, skype, or similar services. I hope that helps. I thought I'd add my reply as I wasn't sure your questions had been fullly answered. Ask if you have any more questions and welcome to DayZ!
