    Banned for using Editor?

I agree with Drabik. I know nothing about computing or computer games and even I play on the editor with the little I've been taught by people here. Admittedly, I don't do anything with Arrowhead anymore as I have dayz running but I still use the editor on arma2 almost daily.

    The M24, Gentleman's Rifle

For me the scope's too powerful. I have to ask zombies and snipers to move back and stand on the next hill, across the field and it isn't often they agree to it. Actually, now I think of it, I think I've ended up dead every single time.

    How to get Debug back?

Hi IFoozy. With the standalone coming, I guess they want us to get used to the debug monitor going, as it won't be in the game.

    Bambi on the run

Hi Billy, welcome to the forums. I agree with Walrus, try lower population servers first. Once you've developed the skills for zombies, then you can start defending yourself again the PvPers. ;) Take a look in the Private Hive Discussion forum for a list of UK servers. Some are open to anyone and some, like the one I admin (UK46) you need to be on a whitelist to get in. I like both Whitelists are good when you reach the point where you can't stand anymore scripter kiddy hacks. Though I've never had much of a problem with them, as I tend to keep to lower pop servers. Wherever you play, have fun and ask if you have any questions. They're mainly a friendly bunch here. :)

    new player confused about server

Hi SkenteR, welcome to the forums. Useful information: You can use different launcher programmes such as Six Launcher and DayzCommander. I use Dayz Commander, which I find easy and quick to use. A hive is a group of servers that are linked. So when you play on any of them you keep the same avatar, the same loot and remain in the same place that you last played. The official hive has lots of servers that are linked, So they all run the Chernarus map and you keep the same avatar and same loot across all of them. There are lots of Private Hives (that means lots of groups of servers) Servers in the same hive are linked, so you keep the avatar, loot and location. But servers in different private hives are not linked. So you get to start a new life or avatar/character in each hive and only carry that character across servers in that hive. Private hives usually have those two words in their title. They also have a cloud next to their server name. The best way is to make a note of each server you join, if you can,
  6. I keep getting kicked from servers since the new version of dayz and battleye says it's due to "script restriction #40". I'm wondering if it's a compatiblity issue? Anyone know?
  7. Good luck Ian, I hope you do get to play. Your positive, friendly attitude is just what we need more of here. :beans:

    Bit of a n00b question.

Oldboy, never let go of your backpack, man! Far too many thieves and bandits around. I feel your pain, Inception. It's a long-lasting, dull, ache of a pain!
  9. Hi Nankura, welcome to dayz. Boneboy's advice is good. Have a look in the Survivor HQ and in Private Hive Discussion. You will see lists of threads in HQ by people wanting to meet people to play with, and in Private Hive Discussion you will see lots of servers inviting you to join them. Remember you might want to find servers in your own time zone for a good ping - we have players from all over the world. :)

    Just another New Guy

I just realised what you meant. That's called combat-logging and it's banned because it's considered cheating! So, sadly, no you can't alt-f4 anymore. To stop players doing it they go into "combat mode" and can't leave until that ends. It's on a timer after shots then it counts down for about 20 seconds and you can then leave.

And your blood is back to full each time you join a game too.

    Newbie help pwease

Hi Dimaz. I agree with Rage, the stuff is there but it can be hard to find. With guns your best bet might be deer stands. Without waypoints they can be tricky to find but they can be a good source of better quality guns and piles of crappy tin cans too. I'd try lower population servers while you're learning the ropes. Good luck, mate.
  13. Hi Boolsy, welcome to dayz! Don't forget to tell people what part of the world you are from, to help make it easier to meet up with people who play at the same times as you.

    Binocular zoom and screenshot key?

There IS a screen shot key if you play via Steam - just hit F12 and you'll hear a camera shutter noise.
  15. Let's keep things civil, thanks everyone. If you've made your point then move on. No point in dwelling on the past or dragging up old stuff.

    Guess The Location ! (Chernarus)

That's Balota, hmm that rings a bell. ;)
  17. Hi Marvel girl! As Rage says being female is no protection from bullets. In fact, I was the first to die on our new UK server. And you know how I died? Mayuyu was coming to collect me in her UAZ and I said to her, I'm in the middle of the road, careful you don't run me o..... and that's all I got to say before her UAZ hit me. :o Second time I died, was the bandit shot my face off. And I know nothing about Rage having "a laugh" with him afterward! :o Rage, I'd like to have a word with you matey, next time you're on the server, please. *loads gun* :P

Good Starting Server for a Pair?

Good point Omaran makes. Once we know which country/side of the planet you're on we can make suggestions. But generally I'd say fine one with only a few people on and keep your head down until you are a little more experienced. I suggest you check out the private hives forum as there are lots of them listed in there and they all want you play one their servers, including one I'm an admin on. So I won't mention any names, as I want to be fair to all.

    Server issue

Hi Wynne. Unfortunately, that is what happens when admins don't keep their servers up-to-date. In my experience, it's private hives this happens on. I've lost so many camps on servers I can no longer access. It takes me half an hour to find a server to play on a lot of the time, and my list of Recent servers on dayzcommander is just a list of servers I've failed to get into. I find it frustrating but I don't think there's anything we can do about it except find another server or complain to the admins. Though in my experience servers and admins come and go quickly. Good luck
  20. Less of that sort of thing happening these days, as battleye has improved its methods of fighting hackers. Good to hear your survived! :) And nice to see such a friendly person joining us.
  21. Hi Key, welcome to the forums! That's a heck of a lot of stuff you managed to loot and a lot of hard work and time too. Sorry to hear about your loss of stuff but, as I always say, don't get to fond of your stuff because you're going to lose it - repeatedly. Any way, I think I see where you might have gone wrong and have the solution for you! Backpacks are fickle and a life of their own! Here are the tips and tricks that work for me and I think 3) below is what happened to you: 1) Remember, you can't pick up a backpack off the ground if there are any other items lying with it. You have to get rid of those first. 2) Here's the best lesson I've learned. Never empty your stuff on to the ground first, when you are swapping packs. That's for two reasons: first because someone or thing could appear and you could lose your stuff; and second, see 1) above! To safely pick up a bigger backpack without losing it or your loot, do this: - Point at the bigger backpack and then roll the mousewheel to "open backpack". - When it's open, go to your current backpack's contents by clicking on its image in the inventory window, and then transfer the stuff across to the bigger backpack by clicking on the left arrow key. You'll see your items disappear. So you'll see the top left says, for example, Alice pack but you're looking at your current pack's content, and as you click to move things across to the bigger pack they will disappear from your current pack. When your current pack is empty, close it. Next, point at the bigger backpack and again roll your mousewheel over it and select "Take backpack". At which point you will then pick up the bigger pack and your things will already in it! (Unless you forget to do that part, which means you'll be walking away from your stuff, which I've done. ) Do check! 3) Remember that whenever you hit G the inventory menu that appears is not your backpack's contents. It is everything you have with you. To view your backpack contents double click the image of it in your inventory menu. (Don't try that with a gun, they just fall on the floor and I've lost a few that way!) So, when swapping backpacks you never need to transfer maps, compasses, knives, or anything in the lower part of the inventory menu because they stay with you. Just like the guns do. I hope that helps. Most of us learned these things the hard way. Give it time and you won't even have to think about it. :beans: By the way, I've found that many people do it the other way, they drop their full backpack, then take the bigger backpack and finally try to open the one on the floor, which doesn't always work. In my experience, they either won't open or physically disappear from the screen. I've even had pals telling me that though it has disappeared from my screen they can still see it!
  22. Jimjam, I am going out now but I will be back later and if you would like to meet up with me on a server, I would be happy to play with you and show you tips on how to get around cities and try to avoid being shot. I've never killed another player in all the time I've been playing, and I've been shot at plenty but survived. I had an entire team hunting me down in Elektro, shooting at me - including their helicopter and somehow, I still got away. (Though I've had others shoot me in the head or axe me to death.) You win some, you lose some. Send me a PM if you would like to meet up on a server. Rage, that's kind of you, thank you. Doesn't matter how pretty the song if it isn't heard though, does it? :(
  23. Not sure what you mean, sorry. If you copy the files to your hard disk and then uninstall them they won't be on your hard disk anymore. I'm confused, sorry!

    Please don't implement passing stool

Rocket, my apologies, I only just saw your reply. You make sense but I think you're making my point for me at the same time! A water bottle is more than one 330ml can of Pepsi. So it should last longer, like chemilights and flares do. Then it's worth grabbing another if you see an empty one lying around. Or maybe they could take up more than one slot in the backpack. That way you win a little, you lose a little. And you can still drink it all down in one go by using it x amount of times, should you want to impose certain role-playing realities. :beans: (...or find yourself in the hell-hole humidity and heat of Thailand) ;)
  25. Oh Jimjam. You poor thing. You have had a bad time of it, haven't you! But if you look at your post, you yourself explain why you didn't find any food or a hunting knife. You said you looked in over 25 places and then another 25 places. That might seem like a lot but it isn't. You say they were all "high value" residential buildings. Well, if you had picked up the empty tin cans and moved them elsewhere, new items would have spawned, possibly including some tins of food! Can't be nice being told you died of ignorance but you did: it was ignorance of where best to look for food to spawn in large amounts. With more experience you will know exactly where and how often to look. And did you know you can survivve at least 4-5 minutes before eating food when your red hungry icon starts flashing? Had you gone to Electro, for example, you would find hunting knives in houses, the supermarket, the cafe, the office block, the school, the fire stations, train stations, barns, sheds, under arches in houses that are not even open, and so many more places. It's just practice and chance & probability or "luck" because you might just be playing on the day when the server you are on just isn't spawing food, or tents, or backpacks. It happens. We've all died at some point from thirst or hunger but it is rare. This evening, I spent an hour running in chernarus' country and found only 2 tins of coke and nothing else. It does happen and yesterday I nearly died of thirst but in the final few minutes I found a pepsi in a barn. And I once spent 5 weeks searching for a tent! It isn't poor programming it's random chance & probability. That's what people are telling you, to get the facts and be more informed, they're saying there are look up tables you can view that tell you the likelihood of things spawning at different places. Good luck. I always say, smile, grit yourself and try again. :beans:
