In ArmA multiplayer, view distance is normally enforced to whatever the server's view distance is set to. Edit: I meant: "enforced to whatever the mission's view distance is set to."

Everything you asked for is already in the game. To talk to people nearby' date=' change to Direct Communication channel (use . key) and use voice chat (CAPS LOCK). People around 80 meters will hear the voice coming from your character (and see your lips moving), the closer they are the louder is it (as in real life). Currently, direct communication is a bit broken and not fully reliable, so sometimes people don't hear you. The latest beta patch attempts to fix it, but it doesn't. ArmA 2 developers are working hard to fix this. Once Direct Communication is fixed, there is no need for any other methods, you can simply use the voice chat to talk to strangers. - To lower your rifle, press CTRL twice. - To do the same for pistol, press G to open gear dialog and then close it. Your pistol will remain pointing up as long as you don't move. - To put your weapon on ground, press G to open gear dialog, select weapon, and click "Drop" button. - To surrender (hands above head), you need to set key in Options - > Controls -> Surrender (scroll all the way down to see it). If you have no weapons in hand, surrender animation will stay on as long as you don't move, otherwise it stops within a few seconds. -

It sounds like you are both using the same GUID. Did you install the game in both computers with same CDKEY? If you have 2 copies of the game and you've accidentally installed the game on both computers with the same CDKEY, just uninstall one of them and use the other CDKEY to install that one. -

You mentioned the bandit coming in end to kill you. Zombie spawns are local to each client, and I guess the more clients (players) in the area, the more zombies will spawn too. There might have been several bandits somewhere around you, who all caused more zombies to spawn. You shooting around attracted all of those zombies to your position.

No need for external voice programs. Use game's built in direct communication channel! It is positional, fades over distance and even the lips of the speaker are moving! Much more immersive and realistic. If you are only talking with friends, you can get it working most of the time by gathering near each other, then exitting to lobby and rejoining. -

If you keep the food/drinks there all the time, you'll never have to make extra room for them. -

Server: EU9 Time: Around 22:00 BST Player name: skoda Evidence: click here to see screenshot We encountered one of these cowards today. On server EU9 today, one of our members was lost (in middle of night). He saw 3 survivors near him so he walked over to them (weapon lowered, peacefully) to ask if they knew where they are. One of them (skoda) shot him in face and killed him. We then decided to serve some justice and get this guy, and started asking where they are. They refused to tell, so we started hunting down their location. Eventually we found the group, and started engaging. We killed two of them and immediately the actual killer "skoda" disconnected.

Works with organized groups, but when you just want to talk with strangers you meet in-game, direct communication is the easiest (and most immersive) way.

I actually wrote the story of how I met Koot yesterday' date=' you can see it here. Koot is one of those strangers in the story. Later on we all grouped up and co-operated for a while. :)

Didn't notice the first part of that message before. That is actually untrue, direct comm channel is available and we use it every day. However, it is bugged and sometimes some people can't be heard/seen in direct comms. Easy workaround for this is to gather near each other, press ESC and click abort to go back to lobby, and then rejoin in that position. It fixes direct comms for everyone in that group most of the time.
