Since the removal of bandit skins everyone seems to just shoot you on sight, or shoot you in the back once you help them. I can't blame them though, since killing other players has only positive consequences, and trying to communicate has mainly negative consequences. Since most people have adopted kill-on-sight attitude, the risk of trying to be friendly and communicate has become too big for even the friendliest players. Only option for friendly survivors now remains to avoid everyone who is not part of your well known group. Communication and co-operation between strangers is mostly dead. Those who say that it is because bandits are organized and survivors not, you are wrong. Most of the killings I've seen have been just done by single guys shooting at everything that moves. I'd much rather see more intelligent banditry, organized bandit groups robbing you on gunpoint, asking you to drop your gear and leave you alive stripped from your best gear. -
LIST: servers with nametags+crosshairs+3rd person OFF

This is server-related. Moved to correct area. If crosshair is disabled, nametags are automatically disabled too. I'm suggesting a change in the server naming format, making 3rd person and crosshair to be mandatory elements in the server name: Server Naming If that happens, we don't need to create lists of servers with certain settings, we could see the info in the server browser instead (and filter out servers with particular settings). -
Some servers are using the latest mission file while not requesting every joiner to use the beta patch. Those who use beta patch will not be able to access the side/global/commander channels since the new mission file removes them. If you use a beta patch, I recommend you to join only servers that require beta patch (look at lower right corner of server browser for required version). Direct Communication Channel range: 80m voice, 20m text (40m with latest beta patch). I've sent the developers request to increase the text range, and due to that they've already increased it from 20m to 40m in a recent beta patch. Yes it works with the newest beta patch. Note that the text distance on direct communication channel is limited to only 20m' date=' while voice can be heard as far as 80m. I'm hoping that the ArmA 2 developers would increase the distance to 80m and make it fade over distance like voice is. -

It works 100% since ArmA 2 beta build 93040. Since installing the latest beta I haven't had a single case where someone on the server was unable to hear/see others in direct communication channel. I only play on servers that use (and thus require everyone to have) the beta. -

I've seen it happening pretty much all over the place. Central / East / North' date=' South. I do play with friends, but when you only play with friends and avoid or kill all strangers, you lose some of the unique and exiting aspects of this game. Essentially it only becomes team deathmatch instead of deathmatch. For me, one of the most interesting aspects of dayZ is the fact that you can meet up and group up with strangers. I like realism, and even though zombie apocalypse is far from "realistic", I like to play the way I would behave in a real situation. In a real apocalyptic situation, it would make sense for people to group up and try to face the zombie threat together. This includes communicating, perhaps being wary of the others, but in the end gathering in groups of survivors. Not shooting everyone on sight. I like the fact that game also has the aspect of some people being bandits, shooting other survivors. This would be a nice twist as long as the percentage of bandits stays low (let's say 10-20% max, as it was before the bandit skin removal). However, currently, the playerbase of dayZ appears to consist mainly retards who shoot on sight, which makes the co-operation among strangers too risky. If you have 80% risk (from my experience) of being shot on sight when attempting to communicate with strangers, sooner or later you will just start avoiding them alltogether, or just shooting them because if they spot you they will most likely kill you. -

I can confirm our worst fears have come true. dayZ is now nothing more than just a deathmatch. The player base is way too retarded to enable any kind of meaningful cooperation. The current ratio for me meeting strangers is 2 good guys for every 8 bandits (those who shoot on sight). With such odds, it no longer makes sense to try to even co-operate with anyone. 80% chance of getting killed while doing it is just too big risk. Even getting a revenge to the bandits is useless, as most people seem to just disconnect whenever they see a real danger of getting killed. -

Go here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php Look up there is a green part that says: Latest beta patch. there should be 93040. If you don't block advertisements, it can easily look like just another advertisement so it's easy to miss. By the way, so far direct comms have worked with everyone I've met in the game, so it indeed seems that direct communication is completely fixed in this latest patch. -

If it fixes the Direct Communication, it will have a big impact in dayZ, because you can then reliably communicate with strangers in Direct Communication channel (they hear voice coming from your character and it fades over distance). You can still play on non-beta servers with the beta patch too. It might take months before Bohemia Interactive releases next full patch. -

I can confirm this bug. The action menu selection for campfire placement seems to be still there hidden, just the text has been removed. -

I've been using direct since I started playing dayZ. It works alright but sometimes some people don't hear voice or see text in direct talk channel. This can be fixed by gathering near each other in the game and everyone in the grouo going back to lobby and rejoining. Today Bohemia Interactive has released a new ArmA 2 beta patch which seems to have more fixes to direct comms (and hopefully fixes it). -
