Before you start a new topic in the forum, please consider these first: 1) Are you posting in the right area? You should look for the correct area depending on what you want to post about. - If you want to team up with others or announce your clan, post it into Clan / Group Recruitment area. - If you need help with something, post it to the Troubleshooting - Bug reports into the Bug Reports area - All suggestions should go to DayZ Suggestions area - Guides, tutorials, and new player questions belong to New Player Discussion - DayZ Photos and Videos belong to DayZ Gallery - If you are reporting about someone cheating, post it into the Cheat Reporting. Admin abuse reports belong to Server Reporting - Anything server related (including server announcements) belong to Server General area, or in case of private hive Private Hive Discussion - If your post is not about DayZ, it should go to the Off-Topic area. - If your thread doesn't seem to fit into anything above, it probably belongs to the here at DayZ General Discussion. 2) Is there an existing thread about the subject? Use search function to look for an existing thread on topic that you wish to share your opinion about. You should also look at the sticky threads (on top of the forum) and browse through the first few pages of topics, in case your search keyword just wasn't included on an existing thread of the same subject. If you create a duplicate thread, it is very likely that your thread will be just locked or deleted! 3) Name the thread properly. Your topic should be informative enough so that person who reads it knows what is inside the thread. If you are using beta patch and server is using latest DayZ mission file, you can't communicate to others with side channel. The direct comm might or might not work with them, as it is very unreliable in ArmA 1.60. I recommend to either use servers that require all joiners to have beta patch (thus you have fully working direct communication, and no one will be using side), or alternatively start the game without beta patch and join the non-beta servers. -
Is there a voice chat guide?

Actually direct communication channel voice chat carries as far as 80 meters away. Text is 20 meters' date=' but increased to 40 in the latest beta. The quality of in-game voice chat depends on server, as server can change the vonCodecQuality setting in config. The default is quite low 3 (max is 10). Stary is more dangerous than coastal cities. While you will meet a lot of random killers in Electro, in Stary (as well as NW airfield, NE airfield and Berezino) you will meet organized bandits with very good equipment. -

EU39 "Testing" for hours

This server seems to be named wrongly anyways. The real EU 39 is hosted by exwizzard.com, and is named with a space between EU and 39. I've talked to the EU 39 owner and he told me that he was assigned EU 39 from the DayZ Developers. Here's the real EU 39: Server naming standard in general needs some adjusting so that we can have consistent list of servers instead of the mess we now have. -
If you experience screen tearing and find it annoying, then you might want to keep vsync on (it prevents tearing). However, vsync does seem to have negative effect to the FPS. I recommend you experiment with it, and see if it affects the performance and whether you get tearing when vsync is off.

As an idea I think one large server (or a few large ones) would be awesome. The map is big enough to handle easily 200-300, or even 1000 players. However, I think the ArmA 2 technical limitations make this impossible. It seems that the CPU and bandwidth requirements increase exponentially when adding more players, and the 50-60 player servers are already in the limits.

Hmm, for cases like this maybe there should be a part where you can put optional text, in the exact position which you suggested (after the timezone, before the dayzmod.com), so those servers that have tight ping limitations could put it there. -

Kill messages are part of server difficulty settings. These settings are fully adjustable, so "regular, veteran, expert" is quite irrelevant. Server administrator can change the settings any way they want, except on harder difficulties some settings are forced off. For example, regular can be exactly same as expert if server admin has modified the server profile and disabled everything. -

Bugs: 1) Tent placement problems (you can't place properly even on level ground without objects). 2) Tent duplication & removal bugs (Tent is permanent once you place it. Dying does not remove tent. Packing it doesn't help, it spawns again on server restart.) 3) Time sync problem (Server time does not progress, everyone who joins is synced server's time) Features: 1) Consequence for murderers (kill on sight types) 2) Consequence for those who disconnect during PvP 3) When running in forest, sometimes you send out a loud sound of breaking branch (stepping on one breaking it). This could be heard nearby (within 200-300m or so?)
