    It's explained in the first post: Removal of global channels Rocket's plan has always been to remove the global channels, leaving only the direct communication channel so you can talk to nearby players. However, direct communication channel was bugged and not reliable in ArmA 2 v1.60. It has since been fixed in ArmA 2 beta build 93040. Ability to remove the channels has been added in beta build 93398. Global, side and command channels have already been removed in latest version of DayZ mission (used by a lot of servers). However, this effect applies only to those who are using the ArmA 2 beta patch. Those who are not using the beta patch can still access these channels. If you want to take full advantage of the working direct communication and disabled global channels, you should join a server that requires every joiner to have the latest beta patch. You can see the required version in the lower right corner of your server browser. TL;DR - If you are using beta patch, join only servers that require beta patch.

    1. What exactely is the Beta Patch? ArmA 2 developers release beta patches so that users can test and give feedback of these new fixes and features before an official patch is released. You can download ArmA 2 beta patch here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php 2. What is it adding/modifiying in the game? - Fixed direct communication channel - Increase of direct communication text range from 20m to 40m - Ability to remove some communication channels - Traffic / server / crash fixes. - Read full changelog here 3. Is it obligatory to have it installed, to be able to play the 1.7 and 1.7.1 Updates for DayZ? 1.7.0 no 1.7.1 yes 4. Why is it usefull for DayZ? For example to fix the direct communication, so that you can reliably talk to people near you. It also allows the removal of global channels. No. After 1.7.1 the beta patch will be required, until the full patch of ArmA 2 1.61 is released. 6. The word "Beta" irritates me: there are hundreds of builds of this patch, latest being 93666. Why is it still a Beta? What makes it being a Beta? They want to make sure that the fixes and features are fully working before releasing a full patch. It wouldn't make sense to release a full patch several times per week. 7. Can I uninstall the Beta Patch once it is installed? Yes. It can be uninstalled by just deleting the beta folder under the Expansions folder in your ArmA 2 folder. 8. Are the bugs in 1.7 resolved?   5. Hopefully rocket will implement some kind of consequence for the mindless killing, which would then make people think twice before shooting on sight. This might bring back some of the survivor interaction that we used to have before the bandit skins were removed and majority adopted KoS attitude. In my opinion, killing other players should be the last resort and rare occurrence in the game. Bandit behavior would be much more realistic if they would rob you on gunpoint and leave you alive. If killing other player would have a severe consequence, it would definitely improve the interaction between players

    It's just realistic... I mean how far can you really shout with voice in real life. I don't know anyone whose voice carries to kilometer away. You can always wave your hand (salute) from distance, and see if he is friendly. If he hasn't spotted you, you can take cautious approach stay hidden until you get closer, and then use voice to call out "friendly?".

    sausagefingers: To avoid that happening again, join only servers that enforce beta patch for all joiners. Alternatively, start the game without beta patch and join the non-beta servers and you can still use side channel (until next full patch of ArmA 2 is released).

  16. It's ok to kick someone who is clearly just idling in the lobby. However, recently joining the server has taken a long time, so some might go and browse the internet while waiting for the connection to get to the lobby. Due to that, I would give them a few minutes before kicking them out. As you mentioned above, they had been idling in lobby for extensive amounts of time, so there's no problem kicking them out. If you write in side chat (in-game), those who are in lobby won't see it. You have to actually be in lobby too to be able to talk with others in lobby (in group channel).

    Remove Kill messages in chat

    Kill messages are part of the server difficulty setting. If server owner has set DeathMessages=0 in their server profile, then kill messages are not shown. There are some DayZ servers with kill messages disabled.

    Account deleted? Posts missing? Read this!

    When I joined the forum after the incident, and noticed the missing posts, the first thing I did was to go to DayZ Announcements and look for info about it. The thread which has text 'Forum / Security Notice' immediately caught my eye as the obvious thread where this issue was discussed. A lot of other people don't seem to bother reading the announcements first, or just could not connect that "Forum / Security Notice" might have information about this incident. When people started creating new threads all over the forum about deleted accounts and posts, I created this thread and made it a sticky. The topic of this thread at least should be informative enough, but even after creating this people still keep creating new threads about it. Initially there must have been between 10 and 20 threads about this issue (of which most got deleted). I don't see why there must be 10+ threads about the same issue whenever something special happens. People need to learn how to search. This thread calmed it down quite much, but new ones are still popping up (and getting deleted). Even today I have deleted a few new threads about this issue, and will keep deleting if new ones are created.
