what speed do the zombies now move at
sixbarns replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Zombies have definitely been slowed down. They don't sprint at insane speeds to catch me anymore. -
(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast

Child please. Can you please point out where I blamed the problem on you? Saying "i never see the problem" is me identifying myself as a player that does not have the issue. If you had asked questions rather than.. whatever it is you think you did.. we might have been able to figure out what I was doing differently and that might have helped you avoid being spawned at the beach. Oh well. -
I've seen servers with incorrect descriptions before. Some servers have reverted to 1.7.2.4 because the bandits are upset. The name might not reflect this. Try a bunch of servers and make sure the ping is good. I've noticed long receiving messages always lead to long 'loading'.
-
This happened to me the other day. I updated to 1.7.2.5 and spawned near Balota. The hangers and control tower were empty and zombies were not spawning for me. The next day everything was working find so I couldn't experiment to find the cause. Are you joining up to date servers? Did you update both DayZ and the Arma2 Beta Patch?

Calm down guy. If the phone rings, I find a safe place and call them back. If I need to leave, I log out. It's also always a good idea to connected directly to your router with a wire when gaming. I've exited the game on long load screens multiple times last night after accidentally joining servers with the wrong beta or alpha patch or weird ping issues. I joined two night time servers in a row and left. Nothing happened to me. IF this is related to continually closing the game to avoid combat or zombies, good. If it's a bug, not good. We shouldn't throw a temper tantrum since we neither have proof or word that either is the case. Anyway, I'm sure it's frustrating. Otherwise you wouldn't have gone off about cookies and fucking off... unless you're a wee lad. -

I read that and that must stuck. I guess hoarding a ton of gear isn't always the best thing to do. Just take the stuff you need and leave the rest. Most decent packs can carry two guns if that's what you're worried about. I find it hard to imagine what you guys have that you can't find elsewhere or can't carry in a few trips. -
Don't expect new patches to work with old servers. Just keep a back up of the @dayz folder when you update. This way you can go back and forth between the updates if you need to. Make sure you're using the right beta patch as well. 1.7.2.5 isn't broken. The bandits are upset about their loss of anonymity and those suffering the graphical glitches haven't figured out we're the testers of the patches for the alpha of a mod.

I guess this explains why I never end up spawning on the coast. I have no problem with playing without force closing the program or alt-f4ing. I -
I think any graphics setting under high is overpowered.

Are the updates even tested before release??
sixbarns replied to pwnage13371's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I totally agree. If only they had a huge supply of testers to test patches for the alpha. They could even setup a forum for the testers so they could discuss the bugs and changes. If only they thought of this. Man, these guys are really dropping the ball. -
Pretty cool but I think you should get the massive douche skin. Enjoy the simplest form of this system while you still can.

A.) test the game and report bugs or B.) Cry anytime any bug emerges and demand instant fixes Which do you guys think we're supposed to be doing in an early build of a mod? -
Is it worth buying Arma 2 Combined Operations now?
sixbarns replied to louie9's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Simple answer: Yes Don't buy it if you expect this game to be perfect. -
Totally lost any faith I had in Rocket/dev team

Server lag could also be a cause. Lag to the hive on the weekend might also be the issue. Just hang out longer. Play the game. Don't jump from server to server.

Could still be hackers. I've never been spawned into a wall but I imagine that sucks.

Can DayZ tell us something about the gun control debate?
sixbarns replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Source? You're making wild assumptions here. Millions of people own guns in the US and mass shootings are rare. Only a tiny percent of guns are ever used in violent crimes. The Assault Weapon ban did nothing to stop violent crime committed by criminals and regulations will do nothing to stop that. In countries that have banned long rifles, crime went up, including home invasions. This game is not an accurate model of human behavior and there are no parallels that can be drawn from the behavior displayed in game. -
I still think burying(hiding) zombies and dead survivors should give a small amount of humanity. Even though it could be abused by bandits, it just feels right. I'd even like to see a little mound over the dead survivor's grave. That way players could dig up bodies for gear, for a hit to their humanity.

The game is much better outside of Cherno and Elektro but the hackers are killing that with their cowardice.

How is it backpedaling? Removing a flawed system and attempting to implement a better system is not backpedaling. Maybe we should try out the changes before passing judgement?

Well, considering all avatars at present are generic I don't see why adding a couple more to indicate past actions is a bad thing. Realistic? No but neither are an endless string of emotionless characters with dead eyes. It's built into our survival nature to recognize threats in people we meet. That vibe some get has it's roots in our evolution. There are all sorts of indicators a person gives off to warn a person about their intentions in real life and until video games can simulate this we'll have to make do with cosmetic changes to avatars. In the future I hope we get a whole series of clothing/skin options based on how we've played in the past. If you're a bandit you unlock a set of skins. If you're a hero you unlock completely different stuff. Enough to model your character to your choosing while still being visually identified. Right now, one skin a piece works well enough for a game this early in it's development. If you had been playing you'd know pretty much everyone shoots on sight because its impossible to distinguish whose a threat and who isn't. This system makes that choice a little easier. And yes, bandits can no longer hide behind the generic skin and trick people into letting their guard down. Yes, before the banditry and murder got out of hand people would actually attempt to communicate rather than shoot first. I'm glad the bandit skin will force bandits to get shot. Same goes for heroes. They'll be a big target for bandits and wanna-be bandits. Works the other way around as well. Besides, it'll take more than one kill to make you into a bandit and if the system was designed right, self defense kills wont automatically make a person a bandit either. Killing a bandit is not the same thing as camping a major city or hill over a city and murdering long strings of noobs again and again. I see nothing wrong with the current system, as I understand it. I just hope we get more options in the future.

Where did you copy and paste that from? Anyway, I haven't seen "wah, I want to endlessly murder people in Elektro and stab people in the back without them knowing my intentions" written in such a round about way before. Good show ol' chap.

Skins dependent on humanity.
sixbarns replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is a zombie skin to choose from by default. Could be that. There are also custom skins floating around so don't pay too much attention to that. Just look at the clothing.
