Challenge accepted. I'm off to use up my hatchet ammo.

Sometimes the left inventory screen will look identical except for a small text above one column with the backpacks name.

Disconnecting shortly after taking damage should make their character bright pink. That way we can identify the coward from a long distance.

Stop modeling DayZ after 28Days Later
sixbarns replied to Rough89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are ways around this and it's not that big of a problem. You can actually walk, not run, through hordes of zombies without being detected. Just pay attention to them and where they're going. You can even sit outside a town and let most of the zombies wonder out in fields. Use a hatchet if you aggro one or two zombies. They die with one hit. If you must shoot, kite them out of town and away from other zombies and choose a gun that isn't the loudest possible option. You can even lose zombies by running up and down hills and mountains. You can toss tin cans to distract zombies and move them away from your path. There are countless things you can do. It's not hard. It takes practice but zombies become less and less threatening. My only problem is the weird spawning I've been seeing lately. Sometimes and endless string of zombies will come at you even if you're in a barn in the middle of nowhere. Seems more like a bug in their respawn than anything. -
"14 aim, blood bags, 7 cooked meats, hunting knife, hatchet, watch, map, binoculars, 3 cans of beans, my revolver, and my czech backpack." He shot you for plenty of reasons.

How can I find myself on a in-game map?
sixbarns replied to copper2010's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can also use peaks, valleys, and open fields to find yourself on the map. The map uses contour lines which represent elevation. So terrain is easy to identify if you get a good look at the land around. The little islands on the coast are also good identifiers. Nothing beats a street sign though. -
Starting to Doubt the Realism...
sixbarns replied to green_machine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah.... I was under the impression that the breaking a leg every 10 minutes was a bug and that it was going to get patched. So don't get your panties in a twist. Don't stand still when a zombie is attacking you. You seem to be more likely to break a leg if a zombie swings at you while you're standing still or when you're near an object/wall/fencepost etc. Try to avoid those situations. The first stop of any player should be the hospital for morphine. There are several but the bandits know this and hang out there. Best of luck I suppose. -
I envy the guys with SUPER computers who plays this game
sixbarns replied to whatever (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Update your graphics card drivers manually. Don't trust the silly Windows driver update option. Do it yourself. Adjust your in game settings. Close down any program you don't absolutely need to have running in the background. Check out the various threads on how to optimize your system. Etc. Your system is superior to mine but I do not have that type of frame rate drop. Not since I updated my driver manually at least. When my system starts to choke I just have to restart the game. This usually happens after I die and respawn. -
WTF is happening to the server community.
sixbarns replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's easier to find a hatchet and run into town and look for someone to kill or a dead body with gear than it is to find it all yourself. That is likely why the tards are taking over. I'm somewhat losing interest in this game atm. Hopefully the next update will fix some of the bigger issues (logging out at first sign of danger, server hopping, ghosting) but the game is far too easy for teams and incredibly rough on loners. If you're not in a clan or with some random guys you somehow can trust, you're at a tremendous disadvantage. That's somewhat real but it makes playing alone a walking-through-the-woods-while-hoping-you-dont-break-a-leg simulator or forces you to throw away life after life hoping to get decent gear off a dead guy in a city. edit: To the guy crying about cursing. Get over it. It's the internet. Feel free to install a word filter if you can't handle it. This is also a game and quite a few people here are going to be immature. Don't write us a book about how you disapprove. -
The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
sixbarns replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like to see: -Painkiller addiction -More randomized spawning of weapons and medical supplies. -failed supply airdrops in forests. -roving hordes on forest roads -wild and dangerous animals to spice up the woods -Other random events to give people more goals than camping the bloody hospital -close range player ID tags (very short range, no scanning tree lines with crosshairs to find targets). This would help groups ID friends and targets at CLOSE range. -parachute flares, for fun. The game is great. Without the bugs the game would be near perfect. I just think some random stuff would make the world feel a bit lively. -
Making items more scarce would only create even more bandits and create even more server hoping morons. (unless you meant to link to a different post in that thread) There is a suggestion sub-forum.

We need an option to rifle butt players. Just saying.

Wait for the patch before crying. No one is happy about getting killed by hackers but don't act like it'll never get fixed. Also, Alpha.
-
Hackers are somewhat common but not every one decides to draw attention to themselves with airplanes, mass teleports, and obvious weapons. Attempted hackers will get worse as the game continues to gather popularity. I bet a good portion of these hacks will be patched up pretty soon.

DayZ performance gradually degrading!
sixbarns replied to Sputnik (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I only really notice this after I die and respawn on the beach. When I look at my task manager the game is eating up massive resources. I quit and restart the game and the problem goes away. -
Players - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
sixbarns replied to DayZHunter's topic in New Player Discussion
I ran into a guy near the beach the other day. We both called out friendly and tried to work together. He had an axe, I had nothing. He said he wanted to help me find an axe but a minute later he was swamped by zombies and died a horrible death. I felt bad for my two minute friendly survivor buddy but I did get an axe. I tried to bury his body as a sign of respect. That about sums up my experience with friendlies after a week. Everyone else tried to kill me or dump their zombie trains on me. -
The most common exploit in the game

Watch out, the Post Police are a million strong on this forum. -
Third Person is not cheating. It's a bloody survival game. Not CoD. That said, I'm all for removing crosshairs from TP view.

I literally just started. I keep dying in less than 10 mins.
sixbarns replied to Gashed's topic in New Player Discussion
Zombies can detect you through walls right now. Don't hug walls. Keep a little distance between you and the wall and you might be okay. Sometimes zombies will spawn on roofs. Before you enter a town, scout it out from a distance. Hold the right mouse button to get a zoomed in view. Also, read the forums. There are a lot excellent guides and posts that can help you get going. Check out some videos as well as they'll teach you what buildings are enterable, how to manage your inventory, and other tactics. -
I'm bloody done with this deathmatch game
sixbarns replied to puffu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
haha I'm wondering whether or not you even played this game. IF you're complete geared up and at a loss for what to do then you have no imagination. -
Get a 50 buck computer off Craigslist. Load map on that.

These hackers are serving a purpose whether they know it or not. Let them try to ruin the game. It's cool. All the shit they're doing will get patched and most of them will eventually lost interest when they can't cheat their way to "lulz".

I'm a fan of this but you're much more likely to end up with a broken leg this way.
