Okay. You made some big mistakes. Why were you crawling around Cherno? If you're not joking then you're playing much too cautiously. I wouldn't recommend ever doing that. Going unarmed into a control tower occupied by two guys and a few zombies isn't being super-duper cautious. That's pretty much the opposite of cautious. You then rescue a guy rather than shooting him. You do know when you turn around to look at someone you also point a gun at them? Sounds like he was protecting himself. Maybe we need a "Lower your weapon friendly guy" rule.

I too am mad at the internet for being the internet.

I'll kill anyone for beans but only if I actually need them.

I don't use it anymore but it's easy to use and good for people unfamiliar with their directory structure.

Question for the "Just play Left 4 Dead" crowd

Hey everyone, EA is surveying the community! -
Zombies being overpowered is good...in concept right now it is just annoying.
sixbarns replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't mind the zombie spawning but it certainly doesn't add to the realism. I've also noticed the zombies act way more unpredictable during peak hours than they do on non-peak hours. And there is another way to get through a village/town. Run through it. Make sure you have at least a hatchet before doing this. Most if not all the zombies will chase after you so all you have to do now is lose them on a side of town you're not going to loot. Run around a building once or twice, then do that again around another building, cutting corners as sharp as possible, do figure eights, weave through bushes, buildings, houses, fences like a snake and you'll lose them in no time. Just don't take them TOO far from the town or they'll respawn and you're screwed. If you have a buddy playing with you this is even easier. Yeah, that's a little harder but it's quicker. Also, smoke grenades are great zombie distraction tools. -
I killed him, I killed a innocent, my first kill

We need a 20 ft rule. Especially if they have a hatchet. -
Sometimes the game takes a long ass time to load. I usually just wait and get into the game but that wait can be long. I believe this has to do with all the tens of thousands of new players and peak hours but that's just a guess.

Here is another thread that might help you. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3939-no-servers-show-up/#entry39795 You might find better help in the troubleshooting section of the forum.

Looks like vehicles reset on my server. It happens. Don't horde. Share the fun.

Spawned in and saw another player moving towards a small coastal village. From their movement and how they were crawling down the middle of the street I assumed they were a noobie. I ran up behind him and thought about looting his bag. I guess this has been fixed so assholes like me wont steal noobie bandages. That's a good thing. I guess he was in first person view as they didn't react to my presence at all. I drew the attention of the zombie he was trying to avoid and instantly realized he was not equipped skill wise to handle the zombie. I drew it away and tried to kite the rest of the town away from the new player so he could loot. Once I lost the small horde I found an axe. With axe in hand I proceeded to look for the noobie. I spotted him a little north of the village and thought I'd lend a hand. When he saw me again he stopped dead in his tracks. I tried direct com to tell them I'll help them loot but for some reason they didn't trust me. I guess the way I wouldn't stand still and the size of my hatchet scared them away. He then ran into a house and shut the door. A few other zombies came running in so I dispatched them with the axe. I walked up to door and swung my hatchet and immediately saw a blood splat. I opened the door and this guy is just standing there behind it! I felt bad but didn't have any bandages as I used my only one after luring the zombies away. I told them I'd go find a bandage but by the time I got back he had died. I looted his bag and tried to bury the body. If you were that guy, I swear I was not trying to kill you with that swing. It just felt appropriate to hit that door for some reason. I imagine an axe wielding madman running around in circles while killing all the zombies may be a bit intimidating to a new player. From now on I will always try to lend a hand to new players. I'll give them axes and bandages and anything semi-safe and run off. I'll do my best to show them the ropes and teach them how to lose zombies by weaving through trees and shrubbery before I run off into the wild. What would I have to lose? A few minutes in loading time?

So fans of other mods are mad? Okay. You know what would have been a better approach with this thread? Introducing the other mods in a thought out way rather than bitching and moaning and coming off as a fanboy troll. Most people are going to stumble into this thread after reading or at least seeing tons of whiny threads and not think one second about anything presented here. A lot of those people are the ones you should have been trying to reach as I have a feeling they had no idea there were other quality mods for ARMA2. If they did, they probably never looked into them to find the ones that are actually fun. You could have introduced them to the best of the best without being a little puss about it.

Some utter wankers playing this game

Isn't alpha the time for big changes?
sixbarns replied to entux's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That depends on the skill level. Definitely don't go if you're new to the game and haven't seen anything else. Running down the streets of Cherno or Elektro without a weapon or clue is not going to be fun. If you have some skill and you've learned the ropes, have at it. Or more simply, if you haven't figured out crawling down the middle of the street is a bad idea, don't go to Cherno or Elektro. It's the new guys I'm worried about. It must be extremely frustrating to repeatedly accidentally end up in these bandit dens. The real game is outside these cities. -
Bah.. A couple guys let me go without a bullet or two tonight so I let a few go myself. Passing the good will forward and all. I also saw less bandits and loggers in general. The long login times might have had something to do with it.
-
Hadn't happened to me until tonight. I think it has to do with the 30,000+ new users in the past 24 hours. The servers must be getting crushed.
-
If you want to run and gun or visit a major city, you're going to have a bad time.

New player with an amazing question
sixbarns replied to MADNESS (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Triple check that you're running both the dayz update and the ARMA2 patch update. Then check to make sure the server you're connecting to is using all the recent updates as well. This is usually found in the server name. Sometimes it takes a while to load in. It's not instant and the amount of time loading can vary. It's up to you whether or not you want to wait or close the client and try again. I find waiting works best for me. -
Better than another complaint thread.

Zombies have really low aggro now

They were easy enough in the last patch. This doesn't sound good. -
I "found" a working bus.... but I'm low on fuel and not sure where I am
sixbarns replied to TylerDurden (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Drive it like you stole it. Then blow it up. You could always disable it somewhere hidden and then go find all the parts and gas you need and come back to it. -
hey guys need your help...1.7.2.3
sixbarns replied to Steven89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Could be a bunch of people trying to join the server at once? There probably are only so many servers up to date at the moment. -
I'd rather the only thing given to players for doing anything were cosmetic and not game changing in any way. Give me my beard damnit.
