More Soviet and modern Russian weapons perhaps?
FlashHawk4 replied to neurofunker's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
All of the guns going around this thread are IN ArmA 2. Why the devs chose to exclude them in favor of the traditional Call of Duty gun lineup is beyond me. -
I was in Balota, not the airfield but the nearby military camp. I had learned from my last bullet to the neck that airfields are free fire zones. I had just scored a Kalashnikov, and almost everything I needed to repair a helicopter was tucked in my pack. I walked out of a tent ad turned right. There was another survivor. Right there. I was literally staring down the barrel of his revolver. All I remember was my train of thought: "Do I call friendly?" "He's too close." "He might want to roll with me, people here are... His gun is pointing right at me." At that moment, I clicked the fire selector on my 74 to "full", and let loose twelve rounds before I was satisfied with my safety. I don't know who he was, but I was going to be friendly. Except he was point his gun right at me.

Okay, I have to say no to the shock paddles. That's just not how medicine works. When you're dead here, you start over. That's the main premise of this game. There's unconsciousness already, and Epi-pens, and that's enough for me. Adding in shock paddles that magically bring the dead back to life would just make this edge closer to Call of Duty, which is what this isn't. The best way to make any game realistic is to make people afraid of getting shot, just like real life. Another way this works is making the spawn work the way it does. If it was just like Battlefield, where it would be "Hey, watch my stuff for twelve seconds while I come back and get it", the game would lose its fear of death. And personally, I like how you have to go back and get dead players, or rendezvous with them. Most of the rest I understand and agree with. Weapon modifications would perhaps be interesting, but that's not too important in my eyes. Just another thing to pick up and lose, and besides, there are already all sorts of different weapons. M16A2 has iron sights, M16A4 has ACOG, etc. Clan radio would be nice, but it should be tied to the physical radio item. It exists in ArmA, and I think they could modify it a bit to work. Traps. Remember where all of the wire barricades are. Now imagine all of those replaced with hidden Claymore antipersonnel mines rigged to tripwires. Think about it. Every airfield, every fire station, every hospital, every industrial building, every gas station. Rigged to blow. If they were rare, that would be okay. But think about how pissed off you'd be if you just happened to step on a mine somebody left laying around two weeks ago. Captivity- think of how that would feel to the victim. I've wondered about making a game where players, when caught by police, had to spend actual game time in a jail. Then I realized, they'd hate it. You have two options. You could let them log out as soon as they got caught, or remove their ability to log out entirely. And option two is ridiculous. Why should I have to stay up all night watching my character be tied to a chair just because People want me there. Maybe if you implemented an escape system. But it just sounds way too hard to implement. Finally, I agree with the typical MMO solution to combat logging- make it take ten seconds, during which you were defenseless. -
I'm new here, where are said patch notes? I never saw anyone mention or acknowledge them before now.

I agree with you. When my friends asked me why it was so easy to get American weapons in Eastern Europe, I made up a B.S. story about no it was an international effort to fight the infection before everyone abandone the area. That was why so much of it spawned in airfields, the US Army fled Vietnam-style and left gear behind. I keep finding M240 and 249 magazines as ask, "where's the PKM?" I find DMR and M24 magazines and ask, "why is the SVD rarer than these things?" I keep finding M1014s and 870s and ask, "Where's the Saiga in this mod?" I guess the Lee Enfield is just because it was in the base code and the Mosin-Nagant wasn't, but it should be a fairly simple cosmetic switch, you wouldn't even need to toy with the base stats, just superficial ones like ammunition and appearance. Why are there UH-1s when Mi-8 Hips are the most common helicopters in the world AND we're in the Warsaw Pact region? -
I knew someone had said it already, otherwise I would have. Perhaps just boarded up buildings that are still enter able, or maybe they could be used against those horrible wire fences we all hate.

I like the idea. People without mics have a hard time expressing their surrender...I son't know if this would work, but perhaps you could tweak the parachute animations from ArmA to save labor? I think we could use that, and a way you sling your primary weapon like you do when you draw your pistol. If there's a way to do that, I haben't found it.

Usually I don't open fire, and I'm in the one percent as well. But this one time, I was scavenging in Balota near the airfield...I walked out of the tent, and found myself face t face with another player who had just done the same. If he hadn't had his revolver pointed directly at me, I'd have given him a chance, and called friendly. But it was, and at ten feet it was the quick and the dead. One point six seconds and twelve rounds of 5.45 later, I had cut him down, and the only thing I remember was making the decision to shoot. Whoever you were (I didn't get the name) I'm sorry. You're the closest thing I've ever had to a Day Z traumatic experience. Moral of the story, there's a percentage of players like me whose rules of engagement vary. For me, it's all about distance and his point of aim. If either of those two are too close for comfort, for lack of a less hackneyed cliché, I shoot first and ask questions later. Keep that in mind. If you're typing especially, don't point guns at people. Not only does it violate Jeff Cooper's rules, it also makes us revert to our training and drop you then and there.

@Wawazat. High five. Just...high five for that one.

I'd be willing to work as a freelance security contractor on the side if you guys need additional support. I've personally felt this is a good idea, and something that would definitely be worth protecting. Just contact me and discuss it with me, steam name kaikimoto. -
I definitely understand the allure of having a partner or two. I'd be willing to travel with you for a while. I'm currently hanging around the castle Zub near Chernogorsk. My Skype name is kaikimoto, if you want to contact me. US player and all that.
-
I'd be more than willing to help out new players, since I mostly am one myself.I'll take you through the world, and I'll show you the survival tricks I know. my Skype name is kaikimoto, call me sometime tonight if you want to run with me. I usually play on Dallas or US servers, but I'll play anywhere my sucky internet/computer rig will let me (my good computer's in the shop, I'm on this P.O.S. right now).

looking for group with ambition

I'm so interested in this that I'll probably go out and buy a cheap mic to Skype with. I'm highly interested. By the way, I'm currently lugging around a few helicopter parts... -

Sounds interesting. I'm the newest player of my circle of friends, and I've been trying to get my friends to think that way, but so far I've been having trouble even getting them from point A to point B. They're way too skittish. Anyway, I also happen to fall in the Central time zone, and I'd love to see some ambition kick in. That trading idea of yours is actually somewhat brilliant, I never even thought about that. Perhaps some kind of clinic system as well- I can't tell you how many times I've been forced to restart simply due to a >4000 blood count, and sometimes I've even had a blood pack in my inventory! Anyway, count me in. My steam profile is Cody.b.hanna. Small caveat: My computer broke down a few weeks ago, I'm currently playing on a lowest-end desktop, low graphics, high lag, no mic. Should be replacing it in about two weeks.
