A friendly face in the Wasteland!
FlashHawk4 replied to coltonlong's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd be more than willing to join you in this effort. I'm fairly experienced in this game, and I tend to log on every night or so when I'm at home. I've lost all of my stuff, as this story usually goes, from infection and the subsequent 6000 blood creep to a hospital. Then zombies. So many zombies. Fifty two zombies. Because I had forty rounds for my M24, didn't miss and had a remainder of twelve. But enough mourning. I'd love to be a member of something more permanent than a few guys wandering around. And of course, I'll do my best with scavenging before y'all pick me up. I'm usually pretty handy with that kind of stuff. Oh, and I forgot to mention I have Skype and a mic. Name's kaikimoto, add me if you want. -
You are about the three hundredth person to suggest this. Try the search bar next time.

Now that I think about it, it's probably best to deny noobs fresh out of the gate a gun. But I knew that already in the back f my head. Every time I've been killed by a player, it was because it was some dumbass noob who woulsn't go out and get himself a microphone, so he couldn't communicate with te outside world, so he opened fire when he saw me because he didn't know what the hell else to do. And now imagine all of those people having a gun.

Day Z endgame suggestion (Warning: long post)
FlashHawk4 replied to oebus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Exactly. When people get to the top of the pack, there's no incentive to shoot zombies. They have all they need, and it gets them nothing. It's a waste of ammo. So they went all The Most Dangerous Game on us, hunting other players because they put up the best fight, and fighting is all one can do. -
Need Medical Assistance? We can help.
FlashHawk4 replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, ignore my request for assistance. I died trying to help myself in Cherno...never would have expected forty zombies at once. I know that number for a fact, I had forty rounds and I didn't miss once. -
Remind? There's one on the same page as yours in the forum right now. Well, my comment will bump it, but yeah. EVERYONE has seen this issue. EVERYONE knows about it.

Not sure if intended... PLEASE READ
FlashHawk4 replied to Kaizen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I know. You can sling your rifle to use a pistol, so why can you not do the same for an axe? -
It's Chernarus, of course there are Spetsnaz. Are you Spetsnaz? No. Well, maybe. You can hit a target with an AK at five hundred yards, rebuild a helicopter, carry car engines in your backpack, run for miles without stopping, gut animals, build fires, navigate with map and compass, bandage wounds and apply medicine... Maybe you are.
-
You do realize you can throw bottles and cans, right?
-
Hallucinations, or at least corner-of-the-eye phenomenon, happen anyway. Grass blowing in the wind, animals, zombies, shader errors, any sort of movement...you stop and double-take. If this doesn't happen to you once every hour or so, especially at night, then you aren't studying your environment well enough, and will likely be shot by a guy in the light blue shirt standing next to a tree.

Server 'Death' - the end game to end games.
FlashHawk4 replied to hoik's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Remember. Killing children is banned by the ESRB. If this game EVER went commercial, they'd have to gut this suggestion, and a whole lot more just because they've drawn the attention of the censors. And I don't want to play as a child. Just sayin'. -
Got to agree here' date=' how else will new players be able to learn on thier own without a weapon. but loot spots are luck of the draw, ie me and a friend started, i got a small town he got a barn, my town had 1 hatchet in it and 3 different mags and some food, his barn had a double barrel, winchester, ammunition bandages and roadflares. So its not as simple as finding a weapon in your first loot pile and then being set for life [/quote'] You found a hatchet, didn't you? I dont's see what the problem is.

Not all men are created equal. And not all men stay the same through their lives. One thing I've thought about in a survival situation like this is, What about the things that other people forget, that you need/crave to survive? If you're a diabetic, you'll need your insulin or other medication. If you're a chronic smoker, a zombie apocalypse probably isn't the best time to try quitting. If you have a mental disorder, this apocalypse is going to get a WHOLE lot more fun if you don't find more medication. A lot of you have been complaining about how easy it is to get past the "life threshold", as I've begun to call it. Can of beans, bottle of Pepsi, and you're set for the rest of the evening. Canteen, hunting knife, hatchet, matches...you can now technically stay out in the wilderness for as long as you feel like doing so, as we've already pointed out. If you feel like it's getting too easy, I think it would be nice to be able to throw something like this in so you have another thing to scavenge for, raid for, or trade for. Even though 99% of the population has no use for it whatsoever, it's a documented fact that one of the top ten most valuable items immediately after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans was insulin. Just because some people need it. Really, REALLY need it. I know some people don't want to have to deal with this kind of hindrance. And I say they don't have to. Maybe the devs can throw in something to balance it out. Maybe not. From what I understand, Day Z is all about playing this game in a unique, personalized way. Why not make a few choices to make your plight different then everyone else's?

[REWARD] Navigating using Maps, GPS and Compass.

Keep in mind those are visible to everyone. That's why you'll occasionally have...graffiti...on your map. -
Proposal for Winchester 1866 Ladder sight; using the numpad option for site switch.
FlashHawk4 replied to Captain Q's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So that's what those are called. I agree with you on the good old fashioned adjustable sights. The Lee Enfield has volley sights on it, or whatever those are called, which adjust to 2000 yards (good luck with that, mate), but hey. It would be realistic, and it would also help noobs a little bit in terms of fighting against snipers. -
I believe it's been tossed around infrequently, but hey, I agree with you after all. It seems like these don't follow the old fashioned Romero Rules, so a hunting knife would be just as valid a weapon as any. It would be pretty terrible, but so is having nothing.

Player Identification and Classification System
FlashHawk4 replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don' see the word forced anywhere in the description. In fact, it sounded much more optional than anything I've read in the past twenty minutes. Where's the forced part of any of this? -
Nice one. Reminds me of my high school acting days, we did One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and I played Scanlon the paranoid schizophrenic bomb maker. That's why I mentioned schizophrenics. Wouldn't that just be the greatest zombie movie ever, through the eyes of a paranoid schizophrenic?
-
That's a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? If anything, veteran servers damage new players' senses, but those who are used to it are...well...used to it.

Player Identification and Classification System
FlashHawk4 replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like your idea. When I first read the title, I groaned aloud and thought, "Great, another carebear thread." But your idea works and is realistic. It would be kind of cool. I think it will be implemented somewhat, in that character customization will probably become more in-depth as this game progresses, meaning you can recognize individual players by a distinctive hat or a certain type of jacket. However, in the absence of varied skins, and even permanence of said skins, your idea would work pretty well. Of course, it's not often that people encounter bandits without one or the other dying (I would assume it resets the other way too, because I always assume I'm coming back as an entirely new individual), but otherwise I like it. -
Me too. Hell, I usually have a '74 or 870 by the time I log off. But we can afford to cut them a LITTLE slack.
-
That's the main thing. Every new player, it seems, takes it to one of two extremes. Either A, they pay no attention to the pretty little squiggles on the right side of the screen and end up with a shrieking, hooting swarm of maneating demons after them, or they hit the floor and crawl every time they see a drunk-looking idler stumbling around in the next field over. One will get frustrated from the sheer amount of death he experiences, the other from the self-imposed stress and the snail pace they're experiencing. They just need to learn to balance the two.
-
Give them a crowbar. That way they don't have to poop and run every time ONE zombie grumbles at them, but they also feel the need to swap up or better gear. It also has unlimited ammo, so they don't feel the bitter irony of dying with an empty gun in their hand.
