    Some interesting ideas

The zombies drank all the alcohol this is Russia isn't it? russian zombies only like vodka they hate whiskey ;) Ever been to Russia? Them Russkies ain't very picky, comrade!

    Reusing dirty bandages?

Perhaps, but it seems to me that by the time they have THAT capability, they'd have bandages to spare.

some weapons replaced by soviet couterparts

I agree. I say why take a gun out if you already did all the work to put it in? They could stay, but we do need Soviet weapons. It's a bit silly to see exclusively Cyrillic street signs on the road and exclusively Anglo-American weapons in your buddies' hands.
  4. This gives me another idea. The gas mask shouldn't just be a time limit for you. DevilDog, you're a Marine right? How often have they put you in a gas mask? How was your endurance? Your peripheral vision? And that's without monsters tearing at your face, with each attack coming closer and closer to tearing it off your head completely. All of these factors should be incorporated if this idea is. Man, that would be hellishly cool.

    Gunshop to Berezino

I think there should be a mid-game deathmatch spot as well as an end-game deathmatch spot. Instead of semi-noob bandits and survivors bum rushing the airfields, they could choose the more moderate goal of hitting a gun shop. Instead of a military base, which offers a moderate chance of kickass loot, the gun shop would offer a high chance of moderate loot. No automatic weapons or cool sniper rifles, but you'd be virtually guaranteed a CZ 550, Remington 870, or 1911 for most of th epeople in your party. That would offer more variety.
  6. Interesting idea. I don't know how badly the noobs would whine about this if it were implemented, but this would increase both the terror factor and the realism factor. Colorless, odorless, invisible chemical weapons that cause the zombetes. Not since World War One has there been an ominous, clearly visible harbinger of death like there is in the movies. It's imperceptible to the naked senses. The only way to know it's coming is with either vehicle-based chemical weapons detectors or or with these little paper sheets that change colors when the compound is present. You'd never truly know unless you had them with you. Of course, you'd also be able to watch your environment. Some chemical weapons kill plants and small animals faster than humans, so when the grass starts turning brown and the birds shut up, you should probably pop on a mask whether you know what's happening or not. Of course, we'd leave the spawn points pretty safe, because you can imagine the flood of hate mail when they die for no clear reason. Hell of a lot of work for the devs, but I want to see it.

some weapons replaced by soviet couterparts

I wouldn't say "replace", but I would say "supplement". And bump up the spawning of the SVD. I don't know where Chernarus is in relation to the real world, but if it's south of Russia, then Enfield makes sense. After all, the Great Game of the late 1800s and Early 1900s, the slew of Anglo-Afghan Wars, and the presumed proximity to British India and Pakistan would explain the Lee Enfield's prescence. Surprisingly, the majority of Afghan fighters in the Soviet-Afghan War used Lee Enfields in the early stages of the war. Just because that was what was within reach. As for the 1911, you'll recall the United States sold millions of the things to the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War as part of the Lend-Lease Act. Afterwards, the Soviets were ashamed of having American weapons in their arsenal, so they were either packed away in warehouses or sold to client states. That explains that. My only protest against a Tokarev would be the subsequent addition of a new ammo type, 7.62x25mm. That's my biggest pet peeve in games like Day Z, Fallout, etc etc...ammo that only fits in one gun. In my opinion, there should be at least two. If you were willing to stick a PPSH, or a version of the Bizon that fires it (they exist), then I'd be okay with it. The Mosin-Nagant would fire PKM/SVD rounds, so I'm okay with this. Keep the Enfield (maybe incorporate another .303 weapon just to please me), but make the Mosin different. That would justify its existence. It already has five rounds less capacity and uses a different ammo, but maybe make functional volley sights or a bayonet. Perhaps throw in the Nagant revolver instead of the Colt revolver. They're still in use in remote parts of Russia and on the railroad security forces, and I imagine that would be the same in Chernarus. As for the Skorpion, you could make it a vz. 68 or a vz. 82, which use 9x19 and 9x18, respectively. Preferably the Makarov ammo, so the Makarov rounds we always find aren't always useless. Another thing, I think we could use both the RPG7 and the RPG18. RPG18 is a lot like the Western M72 Light Antiarmor Weapon, which in turn is somewhat like the modern M136. RPG-18 is self-contained one shot, whereas RPG-7 would fill your backpack slot, and then each grenade would fill up a lot of your inventory, but you could have an assistant gunner like real world armies.

    Those DayZ are over?

If you want to throw this game in the trash, do it. But don't speak for the entire playerbase without consulting us! I'm enjoying it, myself, and I've managed to dodge hackers pretty well. At the very least, I've managed to avoid the world-nuking hacks. But I don't come out and say "there aren't hackers, because I never see them", now do I? You can say whatever you want, but we can too. And we say you probably aren't for Alpha testing. The objective of it is FINDING PROBLEMS and then DEALING WITH THEM. You seem pretty good at the first one, but not so much at the second. I think most people in the game industry approve of community-wide alpha/beta tests, when they can. After all, if you can get thousands of players hopping all over your servers and playing the game in its purest, least influenced form, you get many more bug reports than if you have thirty-two professionals playing the game like they were diagnostic technicians. In fact, I filed a bug report this afternoon, a glitch that may have been missed if it were a closed alpha. You're encountering problems. But it's an ALPHA GAME. Just because people are exploiting the loopholes and unfinished sections of the game doesn't mean it should be scrapped. That's like saying a house is too ugly and drafty and should be torn down, when it's still in the framing stage.

Flares and Chemlights are way too common

It may be true, but how badly is that hurting gameplay? I think they're trying to cater to new players who use them during night games, because a whole lot of people bellyache about how dark the night is and they might want them to be able to counteract it as readily as possible. Just a thought. In my opinion, other than the fact that it might displace better loot, it doesn't hurt all that much.

    Adrenaline - player chance revival!

Adrenaline doesn't resurrect dead people. It is for people in a state of cardiac arrest. Medically, there's a difference. And the difference is realistic here. Please, please no.
  11. I think it's a bit nitpicky of us to debate icon how many inventory slots should be taken up by each individual gun, I'm just glad they don't take up the same space as an empty whiskey bottle. But why does the magazine IN the gun take up an inventory space?
  12. FlashHawk4

    Beach Loot?

Someone mentioned earlier taking the mechanic of randomly spawning heli crash sites and applying it to ambulances, boats, etc. If there were one or two randomized ship/boat wrecks with Industrial/Residential loot, that would be nice. A nice way to get a hatchet or so.
  13. FlashHawk4

    Canteens

But canteens AREN'T rare items. I own three, and I'm not even commissioned into the military yet. Just pointing that out.
  14. No. I refuse to have a timer like that. That would kill realism. If you consistently have that problem with griefers, switch servers. And a lot of these so called "bandits" you're seeing are actually just jumpy little noobs with more bullets than balls. And your suggestion on zombies is sort of the opposite of community opinion and developer opinion. They want to expand vision and keep damage the same. But yes, perhaps more numbers.
  15. FlashHawk4

    Paper map

If you really want a paper map, then get a paper map. Print one off and doodle to your heart's content.
  16. If they introduce a Mosin Nagant, that could be where they implement it. It might be a bit redundant to do so, but there's already a good bit of redundancy in the armament of this game. Like the 870 and 1014 and the 1911 and revolver. Those weapons are only barely different, and therefore the Mosin and the Enfield could be different. Like volley sights on one, or perhaps my earlier suggestion of a bayonet as a fire mode. Also, they have different ammo types and capacity, and 7.62x54R already exists in the game in the form of the unspeakably rare SVD round. People are constantly clamoring for more Warsaw Pact weapons since this is Warsaw Pact turf, and since statistically the Mosin Nagant is the most common civilian firearm in almost every ex Warsaw Pact state, there you go.
  17. Hi everyone, I just had a few thoughts about this. Say you're in the wilderness, in that secret little spot you hide your tents or vehicles so no one can find them. The nearest town is a few kilometers away, the nearest pond is even further, and you just emptied your last canteen. If this were the real world, would you run two kilometers to a town filled with horrible flesheating monsters and bloodthirsty gunslingers, just to put some water in your little plastic bottle? I wouldn't. A few alternatives that could be contemplated: -Catching rainwater. If one were to put up a funnel and an empty canteen in an open field, you would gradually fill it with rainwater if it rained. It wouldn't be instantaneous like filling from a pump or pond, but you wouldn't need to go anywhere special to do it. Just make sure your rig has a clear view to the sky, and the next time the server has a rainstorm, it would start to fill up. It would work a lot like a tent, in that you would have to check on it regularly, and other players could walk off with it if you didn't. - Boiling/evaporating seawater. As we know, it's bad to drink seawater. It dehydrates you and gives you all sorts of problems. But if you've ever done any studying of survival techniques, you'd know you can separate the H20 from everything else. By boiling seawater, or just leaving it out in the sun, you cause the water to turn into vapor and drift away from the now-crystallized salt and contaminants. If you put a plastic sheet or something similar over it, that will cause the water to recondense as pure, drinkable water. You'd have to have access to seawater, but that's somewhat common in the nation of Chernarus, isn't it? I've checked the forum history, and I haven't seen these debated in any extensive discussion, and I don't think it falls in any of the typical "taboo" subjects. It's up to the community to determine whether or not the idea has enough value to be considered.

    Psychosis? "Did you hear that?"

First you say you want to make it realistic, then you say you're not going for realism. I don't understand. And I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm saying that the fact that everyone has the chance to suffer the same mental illness from shooting a certain number of zombies is strange. And besides, I think we're all twitchy enough without it. It would be interesting to make that call and choose to be mentally off balance in the character creation, but a perfectly healthy person just snapping into full blown auditory hallucinations simply doesn't happen.
  19. FlashHawk4

    Psychosis? "Did you hear that?"

I don't think every soldier ever suffers from schizophrenia. And this area here is one of the most hotly debated topics in the world of psychology, whether or not killing causes long term mental problems. Personally, I think it's a result of the culture you live in, and also your own personal mental state. Assuming everyone succumbs to mental illness after taking out a random number of adversaries, and then assuming that it always manifests as schizophrenia, is fairly unrealistic.
  20. FlashHawk4

    Realism vs keeping new players

Precisely, noobs come in with the mindset of "I have to go and get myself a kickass gun so I can shoot bad guys". Depriving them of a gun will give them the experience they need to realize you don't have to shoot everything that moves. And it filters out the ones that get bored and walk off. Because, in reality, do we need them? Do we really need to cater to every gamer so they'll stay and screw us up for a while before popping in a different game?
  21. FlashHawk4

    Spawn near friends

Yeah. We're working on that. Rocket has already stated, "That is NOT meta gaming, that is an exploit, and people will be penalized do it." And hey, you're right, it's a video game! I never noticed that, I thought we were all talking about those drones we control in the real zombie apocalypse!
  22. FlashHawk4

    Psychosis? "Did you hear that?"

    A. It's a zombie apocalypse. Why are you penalizing people for killing zombies. B. that's schizophrenia, not psychosis. Sorry, I get nitpicky about stuff like this. C. I disagree with the idea, and many others like it have been suggested already. Honestly, I already see things that aren't there when I play at night, I doubt we need a gameplay me Janice that makes us see it.
  23. FlashHawk4

    Banned for "NightCrawling" ?

The way I see itc, you have to be in a shooting firefight with someone else before it's combat d-cing. Or at the very least IN SIGHT of someone else. Leaving because you shot someone and that's probably a good place to stop for the night is a legitimate reason. What else is he supposed to do, go out and kill the rest of them because you won't let him log out until everyone around him is dead?
  24. FlashHawk4

    Humanity should reset on respawn.

What if it wasn't even a crime, or wasn't even you? Maybe you were defending yourself, maybe your buddy ran into the line of fire while you were shooting zombies, maybe your douchebag friend played bandit style when you let him try out the game? I think the notion of a gameplay mechanic deciding who is guilty of a crime is like having a trial without a judge or a jury.
  25. Wait a second...you ran the 1st Cav? I used to roll with you guys when World At War was the newest Call of Duty! That definitely has me interested in your project now. PM me if uou're still taking applications for this project, I'm always down for ambition. Or anything going beyond grabbing beans and hiding in the woods, or that matter.
