Will DayZ cost money after Alpha?

Calm down' date=' Oilman. Calm. Breathe. Just asking a question here. No need for Modrage. This. "Can't we all just get along?" -- Rodney King :D That being said, I hope that Rocket does charge a penny or two for the game. As it is today, I would happily donate for no other reason than to see this game progress - no questions asked. I have already received my remuneration for the product, and want to give back. Rocket, all you gotta do is ask, buddy. TKJ

    Bandits and Self Defense

This, exactly. I like to think the lone wolf mentality is DayZ on hardmode. I would also like to think that the game should support - but certainly not hand-hold - those who play this way, and I'd like to say that (to me) it does. You hide in the bushes, and you take advantage of the zombie's aggro against others wherever possible, if you're in an area where an existing team/group are actively engaged. This (especially at night) is helpful, if you ever need to get some gear. I found this exact scenario helped me to find, well, nothing... ...but at least I was able to circumvent some zeds to be able to search an area. I love the lone wolf mentality - and you don't have to be capping others to do it, which I'm sure some of my 'fans' will like to hear. TKJ

    Should we scrap bandit models?

I wholeheartedly agree. There is no argument from me in regards to the fact that it is unfair for people to be able to kill other players to the point of exhaustion' date=' and then 'pop out', rename themselves, "Joe Niceguy", and pop back in and tell everyone, "Hey, I'm a bandit hunter. Let me join your team, and I'll knock them all out." It's possible that it's a tough thing to do. I haven't coded in a couple of years, and don't have access to the ArmA code, so I can't say one way or the other if it might be easy. Maybe it's as simple as locking the player name for a determined period of time. Maybe it's not. It's a tough argument to be made from both sides, and believe me, I do appreciate the nuances of both. (I guess what I'm saying is, I'm really not as big a dick as I play on the internet.) ;) TKJ

    Can't shoot trough glass

I watched a video of someone shooting through hospital glass, and it was very unrealistic. They basically pumped about 10 shots through one pane until it finally gave way, and it actually broke ALL of the panes in the row when that happened. I could only surmise that each of the 10 panes of glass had been coded in such a way that 10 shots through 1 translated to 1 shot through each of the 10. But again, that's only a guess. TKJ

    Should we scrap bandit models?

Vote: Do away with the morality system. Caveat: Fix the way we can identify players, so we can effectively say, "Look out for that Rinner23 guy, he's a PK'er!" Sidebar: I like Rinner23. He's a funny guy, and doesn't afraid of anything. TKJ
  7. It's tough out there when you spawn at night, and this creates a few issues. I play after 10:00 p.m. EST, and even when I searched for some West Coast Servers, could only find one or two. If there was a way to implement 'alternate timeline' servers, that would serve people on shift work, or who played the game at night and would like to actually 'see' something, I think that this would be helpful. I'm not sure if I've just been unlucky enough to spawn where others have gone before me, but the dropped items seemed to be extremely rare for me, even for the simplest of items. For example, on one spawn in, I examined one 'town' close by, found two locations containing pop cans and tin cans, and that was it. This was essentially repeated for the three other times I spawned. I don't have a recommendation on how to remedy this, unless to say 'increase the drops to include multiple items' so that more than one person can nab something. (Actually, that's not overly realistic - does anyone have a recommendation for what one should do in this case? Is it 'toss a bunch of flares and move along?') There's the other thing. I had one group of flares, and they were pretty much gone within a 30 minute span, and in one town. In the nighttime, it looks to me that we need to 'hole up' in a certain town, as travel is mostly impossible. If the moon was out all the time, that might help, but it would seem that the weather in my area was against me. We had lots of clouds, and when it wasn't cloudy (did I mention pitch black?) it was RAINING. Yeah, thanks a lot. Overall, LOVED IT. There was one moment when I was running, looking to the sky for guidance, and stopped. I figured, "oh ok, it's a fence" so I did my 'hop over the fence move. Nada. I wondered what I was stuck on, so I popped up a flare. It bounced behind me, and I was looking into the eyes of another survivor! Cool. Scared the crap out of me, but cool nonetheless. (No, I didn't shoot him.) Fun times, everybody. Fun times. TKJ
  8. Rocket, I wanted to let you know that I love your mod, and it has renewed my enjoyment of gaming. I haven't played much of anything in the past five years, and until now, I haven't found ANY GAME that has focused my attention, since my years of playing EvE Online, as much as DayZ. That being said, I have found only one glaring issue with the gameplay itself, and that is the issue of HUMANITY. For me, who likes to become an entirely new character when I play this game, this is the only limiting factor I can see. From the standpoint of immersion, you cannot effectively be a sinister, backstabbing bad guy, when you suddenly "change" into a completely different looking player. This severely limits the ability of a player to integrate themselves into a team, and then, do anything against those players. This is the epitome of sinister, and would happen if the zombie apocalypse was upon us. In my opinion, you should have free will to choose what you look like, and have no limitation on how you are perceived in-game. The current bandit system is broken, in the fact that players are being unfairly judged for their actions. You may want to be a horrible villain one day, and be a fantastic good guy the next. This can't exist, when players are being shot on sight. In EvE, I knew a guy who integrated himself into a corporation, rose through the ranks, and spent MONTHS with others. He spoke with them on chat, supported them in battle, and became one of the most trusted people in the corp. Then, one day, he stole EVERYTHING that the players had amassed over a two year stint in game. Players petitioned the GM's to return their stuff, and to ban the player. They DECLINED. They told them that this was the way the game was MEANT TO BE PLAYED, and that you can't just overtly trust everybody, all of the time. I think your game could be just as innovative, just as immersive, and as enjoyable, if we did away with the bandit system altogether. In my opinion, it's unfair to a certain play style, it's limiting in the way players are denied support, and it should go. Thank you for reading. (To all, I invite any and all supporters and detractors from this conversation to join me in making our views known. I would have put this into the PvP thread, but it's so it's own beast now, that it deserves more visibility.) TKJ

The Official Unofficial Bandit Removal Petition

To the Mods, It would seem that my thread has been overrun by trolls (Rinner and the lot, I do invite you to back up your claims with facts, as I haven't called anybody names, nor have I done anything but try to convince people to have a level playing field) and I would ask that it be closed, if that's possible. To all, You all have your own opinions on how the morality portion of the game should be handled. In the end, Rocket is going to make his own decisions, and I respect that. The only thing I am asking for is an even playing field for all players, and not to have 'levels' whereby someone can look at someone else, and immediately decide that their gameplay is less important than their own. No player - regardless of if they are good, bad, or downright evil - should be forced to play the game with a different look. It fosters a separation. It fosters the arguments you see, above (obviously, we're all guilty - I'm certainly not innocent in getting a little passionate about it) and regardless of the outcome, it would be a better game for all. I'm sure there are other things to fix - griefers, spawn campers, etc. - but the skins are not the answer. Thanks. TKJ

    Average Life Expectancy

Agreed. Once they've achieved the balance where zombies are a deterrent to those, we can finally do away with the morality system altogether. ;) TKJ
  11. Spawning is an interesting beast. I was online, and a zed was about 20 feet in front of me, shambling back and forth. All of a sudden, it DISAPPEARED! I was surprised by it. Then, out of nowhere, three monkey zeds spawned within about 10 feet of me. It killed the immersion (obviously) and also caused me to have to rethink returning the way I had come. I don't know if we could get the spawns to 'hold off' if there are survivors within 'eye shot', but that's my idea. You shouldn't have them disappear in front of you, nor should they suddenly appear out of nowhere. TKJ

    For the sociopaths.

Oh, that one's easy. You play the long con. You join a group, become respected, share ventrilo settings, the works. You agree to be online at a certain time, and you show up and play together. Do this for weeks or even months. Then, when you and your teammates are done fighting a bunch of other people, you shoot each one of them in the back of the head when they're searching the bodies. Winchester too common - Other low end gear too rare.

Damn, I must be spawning in the wrong spots. I haven't been anywhere close to a spot which wasn't a small town since I started. 90% of the time, doors are closed, and the one building with an open door has empty cans inside. NICE. TKJ

    The PvP Discussion Thread

It's not sarcasm. Honestly' date=' I got a bunch of people hooked on EvE Online, and they shared similar sentiments to you. They ended up exploiting the gameplay mechanics to their liking, enjoying the game for what it was - as open as possible - and had some of the most fun times. Everybody has the ability to be 'the bad guy', and they should, at least once. It's very liberating. I might just have very thick skin. TKJ
