Not a criticism, but do you have any examples or screenshots you could share? The controls - or lack thereof - that we presently use seem to be confusing to me at the best of times. TKJ

Simple but maybe uber noob question
The Killing Joke replied to vivalarazala's topic in New Player Discussion
Chat has a few settings. Use "," and "." to cycle through the different chat channels, and "/" to say something. I'm using the blue one usually, as it's usually the most visible at present. TKJ -
Hey, if I don't get the ability to yell, "STAY IN THE HOUSE, CARL!" I'm ragequitting right here and now. ;) TKJ

Dear Rocket. We crave direction!
The Killing Joke replied to The Killing Joke's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Honestly' date=' I would think a [i']balance would be best, for both him and us. I've developed some software in the past - certainly nothing like this! - and I know how burnout can affect your overall health, for one thing. Even if there was some one-way communication where Rocket didn't want to respond/comment on everything everybody says (like a regular blog post) we can pretty much have our own conversations regarding the content. I know it would definitely go a long way to stem the tides of discussion, especially when (not if - ha ha) he makes the inevitable, "The Removal of the Morality System" post. (OMG guys, I'm KIDDING. Sort of. Wink, wink.) Obviously, knowing which direction various things are going could help in defusing the obvious arguments that are going on, and that could only be a good thing. As I see it, there are questions regarding actual bugs, things regarded as bugs but aren't, current functionality tweaks, and future functionality, that are outstanding at the moment which could be remedied by this communication. Every little bit helps! TKJ -

The Killing Joke replied to PURE RAGER's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not sure if you CAN'T do this already. As it turns out, I was stuck not moving in the dark the other night, and couldn't move. For whatever reason, a dialog appeared in the middle of my screen regarding what I THOUGHT was my pack. I popped up a flare and was staring right at another survivor! In hindsight, I wish I had opened the pack. Maybe I could have looted someone without them being aware. TKJ -

Flashlights and why you should start with them
The Killing Joke replied to TheHappyPeanut's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is, however, not as much fun when you spawn in the pitch black. Actually, I have no point of reference, as I HAVE ALWAYS SPAWNED IN THE PITCH BLACK! Dang. TKJ -
Your first time being a bandit.
The Killing Joke replied to Alex LWG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Mine was the worst. It was probably the second time I had spawned after being munched on by some zeds. My heart was already pounding, it was dark, and I saw something move RIGHT BESIDE ME. I jumped in my seat, and pumped every shot of my clip into it, and dammit if it wasn't another player. I got called out in chat, apologized, and that was it. TKJ -

You. You have some strange friends. TKJ

Hmm. Don't tell the bandits you can kill other players without actually shooting them. You're going to have a whole new player base, dedicated to throwing tin cans at spawn. TKJ

Flashlights and why you should start with them
The Killing Joke replied to TheHappyPeanut's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think a flashlight should be a standard item, on your actual person as though clipped to your shoulder, rather than taking up a slot. They have both pros and cons. Pros: - You can fucking see at night. - You can fucking SEE at NIGHT. Cons: - People can see you at night. My thoughts on the matter: They should have a limited view area, say 20', and enough brightness to give you an idea of where you're going, and not much more. The beam would be similar to the incandescent, yellowish bulbs of old, and certainly not "LED" quality, for eerie effect. The zeds shouldn't be immediately drawn to the light, but if they venture 2-3' into the beam, they turn towards it, and it gives you the chance of being spotted when they get close. If you do this, you don't IMMEDIATELY have people illuminating an entire area with a flare, because when this happens, everybody for a 5 mile radius can see it. Flares draw in more 'bad people' who want to shoot you. By the same token, a smaller light will still give your position away when other players are local to your position, so there is no reduction in the aspect of having a larger chance of people shooting you in the dark. This quote is overused, and sadly, is not the case. People are adapting, and there are a growing number of threads for the 'bandit killers'. I understand where you are coming from, as I do not like the whole 'spawn camping' mentality, but balance is destroyed when you favour one play style over another. It is - no doubt - UNFAIR when someone gets shot at spawn. We need a good way to identify these players, and then, have the ability to have them removed from the servers. That's the way similar issues are handled on other servers, and is an acceptable measure for DayZ. TKJ

Now, cannibalism would be the ONE situation whereby a new skin could be forced on a player. Hear me out, Random Poster that I just made up to make my post more hilarious. :D Cannibalism would change people, psychologically. Removing the current morality for a psychology check could work. People's shoulders would hunch, they'd have laboured breathing, and become a little bit more feral. For a time (and I recommend this be random, yet temporary) they would be slower in their ability to do technical things (like aiming) and yet faster and more random in things that are 'reactive', such as running. Overall, I could see this working, somewhat. It's a little over-the-top, but it also amuses me, somewhat. TKJ

Melee Weapon Petition
The Killing Joke replied to WildGunsTomcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think history has proven there is only one melee weapon required for any situation. TKJ -
Hmm. This could be a nice little 'tide turner' for when you're hiding, and you see another player trying desperately to avoid a swarm... Imagine the hilarity as they're proning it through the grass, with a zed shambling in the other direction, when you toss your bottle towards them, and the zed TURNS... :D TKJ

Extensive in-depth idea for rewarding good-guy players
The Killing Joke replied to cat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would like to make note that a new skin forced upon a player for either playstyle would be a punishment. It's a target on your back, friends. If you want to implement something like this, for bandits and good guys alike, make it choice based. You bandaged and transfused 50 teammates? You ARE AWESOME. A random drop happens - just for you! It's the army, and they've flown a heli in to drop you your new skin (take it at your own peril!) and a bunch of supplies! You shot 50 guys in the face? You ARE AN EVIL BASTARD. A random drop happens - you hear some gunfire, and go to investigate, only to find a platoon of NPC baddies getting munched on by some zeds, and then they shamble off into the forest. You find your new skin (take it at your own peril!) and a bunch of supplies! You have (by choice) the new skin that tells everybody, "Look at me. I'm a serious badass good/bad guy!" and immersion is saved. TKJ -
Melee Weapon Petition
The Killing Joke replied to WildGunsTomcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Let me throw tin cans at them! /humor On the serious side, however, I do support melee as a last attempt to survive without bullets. Even if Rocket implements "Zombie Slap-fight" mode, where your hits are ineffective, I think the animations would be hilarious. TKJ -
