Why does this game have so many idiots?
The Killing Joke replied to Kirvin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Congratulations. You play just like they do. (Don't be insulted. That's not a bad thing!) As it is, the bandit system is totally terrible for both sides. Survivors can't trust anyone, not with a survivor skin because they could change, and not with a bandit skin because they could be lying about defending themselves, or they could really, really play as a not-so-nice influence. As it is, the bandit system isn't, and isn't meant to be, a punishment for playing that way. You probably won't see a punishment for playing this way either, because it's totally legal and allowed in the game. (And even if all of the survivors stood up and called for it, it's entirely unlikely to change, because it would lose a large chunk of the player base who like it.) As for your gameplay, you're passionate, and you like the way YOU play. That's pretty much the same for those others who like to play THEIR way. It certainly doesn't make them any more an asshole than you (again, not an insult - an equalization) when you choose to shoot a defender if you don't trust him. If he was telling the truth, what does that make you? Right. Now, you're getting it. :D TKJ -

I'd like to see this kind of comment disappear entirely. Perhaps we can patch that! Seriously, folks. I don't know about you, but in real life, I'm a motherfucking peach. I give money to the poor, go to church on Sundays, help out at the local soup kitchen and try my hardest to lead a good life. Nah, I don't really do any of those things. But, I'm not a scumbag either. It would serve everybody well if they didn't immediately jump to any connection between in-game and real life personas. TKJ

Most shocking thing you've seen.
The Killing Joke replied to JinxX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was running in pitch black, using the skyline for bearings, when I noticed I had stopped moving. I used the 'climb over' bind, but nada. Still stuck. Down to only a couple of flares, I figured I'd use one up, as maybe there was something interesting blocking my path. Well, as it turns out, I was right. I bounced a flare off another survivor's face, it rattled behind me, and illuminated the two of us as we stared at one another. I chatted, "Oh, hi!" in text, and watched as he jumped up suddenly, and ran off into the woods behind me. Funniest, and yet scariest thing yet. TKJ -
What do you want to see in 1.5.9 ?

Why does this game have so many idiots?
The Killing Joke replied to Kirvin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To everybody above this line: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a game. Presuming to know everybody's knowledge or motives is impossible. Name calling and believing your gameplay to be 'better' is counter productive. And, of course, that is just my blowhard, holier-than-thou opinion of the whole thing. Or is it? ;) TKJ -

The Killing Joke replied to Kirvin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Perhaps those other 'idiots' don't speak your language? I know I've been in-game with Italians, Russians and other non-English speaking individuals before. Maybe they didn't understand you, or possibly didn't read your post quickly enough to know your intentions. TKJ -

The Layman's Guide to replying to posts containing Opinions.
The Killing Joke posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hi everybody, I just wanted to post a short tutorial on how, in my opinion, to successfully navigate the forums, since I've noticed that a lot of people like to post their opinions as if they were facts. As I believe that it would be impossible to have everybody stop this type of behaviour, I would like to invite those reading these types of posts to try a little experiment with me. Maybe, just maybe, it would cut down on the in-fighting, backstabbing, and overall bad feelings. A lot of people make a post like this: You'll note that they promoted their opinion as fact, by saying "everybody is going to do this", whereas it is possible that not everybody is going to do that exact thing. There may be some (or many, or even most) who choose a different path. The thing I like to remember is this. A lot of people get very passionate about their opinions, myself included, and may choose to post a very passionate message about it. They may have an opinion that is 180 degrees in conflict with your own opinion, and that could result in a very passionate response by some (or many, or even most) people. What can happen is the conversation devolves into a mass battle to see who could insult the other better, and that doesn't help anybody. Here's another type of post that I have found interesting: Rocket may have said something that led to this type of comment. He may have said something that was misunderstood, and in turn, led to this type of comment. Rocket may have said nothing and rumour or intuition may have led to this type of comment. Rocket may have even made this comment and then, in the future, changed his mind. In my opinion, it could really go any direction entirely, and fighting (and fighting and fighting) about what may have been said, understood, or thought, doesn't always end well. In closing, I have tried to write the above in the manner in which my opinions are presented as opinions, and as such, it's a very long-winded, and seemingly blowhardish post. For that, I apologize. What I would like to ask is for everybody who reads other people's passionate, loving, or perceived insulting posts to put themselves in the shoes of those who wrote it, and try and see it from their point of view. Sometimes, our own opinions can be so strong that this may be hard to do, and I recognize that even in myself, so sometimes, I catch myself in mid-post and stop. And then I delete what I'm posting, and move along. I certainly don't know what the future of this mod is. I do know - for a fact - that I love it as it is today, and hope to continue loving it for as long as possible. I hope you do the same. TKJ -

Thanks! Stickied in 3... 2... ;) -
That is the worst post I have ever read. ;) Seriously though, you're right. I guess I'm getting gun-shy in my old age, what with everybody jumping on the "holy crap, you're so wrong" bandwagon. TKJ

PVP System suggestion/ Self defence
The Killing Joke replied to filippo.restivo@hotmail.it's topic in New Player Discussion
Here's a question. How does that work? If you get shot by Player A, and you mistakenly kill Player B, are you not penalized? I'm concerned that this may be an exploitable mechanic. Consider this. A band of survivors have one assigned 'patsy' in their team, that they take attacks from simultaneously... ...getting shoot from him ONCE in the foot. (A to his humanity, so, really only one bandit.) Then, they go out on a murderous rampage on another group, racking up no humanity hit. (Sure, it sounds insane, but still. It's a possibility.) Thoughts? TKJ -

I've heard this same complaint a couple of times. I'd like to know if you are getting ATTACKED at all by the invisible zeds? If not, but your buddy tells you "it's right beside you" and it doesn't seem to see you, basic troubleshooting logic would say it may not be the zombie models themselves. Of course, if you find yourself dead from time to time, then that's different. Also, in the top right corner, what does the "Zombie Count" show? Is it 0? I've logged into a couple of servers where there were 0 zeds. TKJ

Simple but maybe uber noob question
The Killing Joke replied to vivalarazala's topic in New Player Discussion
No problem! As a player of 'zero visibility mode' (i.e. after dark) the only players I seem to meet with are ... well ... invisible, or running by flare-light. Cheers. TKJ -
I was under the impression that Arma may have a different UI configuration available, and maybe you had something that you wanted to see changed. I'm sorry if I misunderstood. TKJ

You mean, other than the 46 views, and +2 positive rep so far? Pretty good! My post doesn't necessarily require input. If enough people read it, maybe they could change the way they read and respond to posts. I'm certainly not holding my breath for that day, but still. Maybe, just maybe, a Mod will like it enough to make it into a sticky. Maybe. :D TKJ -
I think there's an issue with power, but I see what you're getting at in regards to sound events being integrated in-game. Not to steal your thunder, but to add to your idea, I would love to see NPC 'events' integrated into the game. If there was some way for the game to know there were people in a city, and NOT in a specific building (say, one with no entrances?) then there could be an AIR STRIKE, demolishing that specific building. Or, even attacking a nearby empty field, under the guise of clearing out some zeds. I played (yeah, I know) City of Heroes way back in the day, and they had these happen, randomly, from time to time.
