I haven't been using a flashlight for a while not, but I think this could be related to the way you're holding the flashlight. When you enter "combat mode" via space bar, you would raise your fists, melee weapon or rifle and point your flashlight in front of you. When you're in "relaxed mode", you lower your weapons and also the flashlight, which causes it to light a small area next to or behind you. This obviously shouldn't happen when it's off, but next it happens to you press space a few times and see if there's a change to it. Also try 3rd person view (enter) and turn your camera (holding alt) to see what your flashlight is doing exactly.

Get out... of my head! *wraps cranium in seven layers of tin foil* I stopped carrying weapons (aside from a hatchet) and even camo clothes for the same reason, to look less threatening on my travels and to at least have to option to communicate with a person before he shoots me because I look like a commando on a mission. But I'd love to further stress the role that I'm trying to fill with an appropriate outfit. A ballistic helm with a red cross on a white circle rather than the red motorcycle helmet as a surrogate. A proper medic's pack rather than a red camping one. Maybe a lab coat scavenged from a hospital. A surgeon's mask rather than a respirator or gas mask. Medical gloves. Also, further (diagnostical) medical gear like a blood pressure meter to find out the status of their blood level rather than asking "how gray is your vision today?". A classic brown leather bag taking up the place on the shoulder rather than a rifle on a sling to opt for more inventory capacity instead of a rifle. A problem I can see if there were medic versions of military-grade gear that is equal to regular desirable pieces of equipment. People would use a medic version instead of the regular military one because they simply haven't found neutral one. Think of a ballistic helmet with a red cross and a regular olive one. If I was getting myself into gunfights regularly, hell yea I'd use one that falsely claims that I'm a medic rather than wearing nothing on my head. This got me thinking that with the modularity that they are trying to get into the item system, universal red cross velcro badges or similar could be an attachable item that optionally alters the appearance of a regular piece of equipment. Or rather than having half a dozen ballistic helmets with various camo patterns (at some point), rather have one helmet and several fabric helmet covers in various patterns, including a red cross one. Nobody would be forced to look like a medic for game mechanic reason, but you would have the option if you have your reasons.

I don't know what it is. In pretty much every other game I get quite annoyed when I have to travel for long distances. Just watching my character run, increasingly impatient to reach the destination to do stuff there. It's just an entirely different feeling in DayZ. Even though I spend a huge part of my time in DayZ traveling it never feels like empty, lost, wasted time. It's part of the experience that I enjoy so much. It's not about becoming harder, better, faster, stronger in the shortest amount of time possible. The journey is its own reward. I wouldn't even consider traveling being particularly relaxing or laid back. I'm usually very aware of my surroundings, constantly looking for unexpected movement, watching the treeline. Maybe it's the occasional check if my bearing is still alright. Taking moments to stop and look at my compass and landmarks while prone in the tall grass. Finding my way without having a minimap track my every step and huge markers on the screen that tell me where to go and what to do. Knowing that everything is optional, that I can go where I please. That I don't have to "progress" to "continue" the game. Maybe it's the ever so slight smile and mildly warm feeling when reach the top of the last hill before reaching my destination and the familiar town structure appear in the valley on the horizon and I give myself an imaginary pat on the shoulder. Not because the journey is over, but because the world is so inviting even in its cruel harshness. It's a different pace than in other games. A pace I can very much set myself, far beyond what is common. Sure, you can play anything as slowly as you like, but most games aren't made with that in mind. They don't expect you to stop for no particular reason to take in your environment and don't design it with that in mind. Not that I'm trying to imply that this was the intention of the creators of DayZ or rather the Chernarus map, but it's the wondrous concoction of a number of hard to grasp factors that just... work.

question. i very dumb (Fill version if bought alpha q. )
(TMW) Merino replied to peindjy's topic in General Discussion
Buying the early access pre-alpha means you will have access to all future versions, including beta and full release without having to buy anything else. -
Ready to treat any kind of predicament from growling stomach, dehydration, gray eye, insomnia and ingrown toenails to hairloss, athlete's foot, insomnia, chronic lack of a can opener and possibly erectile dysfunction (only if Nurse Stacy is on duty too). Actually somewhat low on saline and bandages at the moment, gonna hike to another hospital while waiting for the next patient's call :)

I just found one in the corner café type building on the upper floor on a crate. It went into good hands soon after - not mine, I'd probably just try to clobber people zombies to death err... with it.

disheartened and disappointed someone explain ? D:
(TMW) Merino replied to kstrife's topic in General Discussion
You're currently in a stage pretty much everyone of us was at some point, be it in SA or the mod. No, the game isn't fair. Survival isn't fair. The game won't tell you what to do. It will not give you directions, it will not protect you from making mistakes you don't even know they are mistakes. The game is as harsh as its scenario and you probably won't get far if you apply the standards that are widespread in games these days. If you straight out refuse to do some research you won't get far or even enjoy the rugged struggle that is DayZ. To at least point you in the right direction, a useful tool to have is an online map such as http://dayzmap.com/ which is kind of outdated by now, cities and towns have been partially rebuilt so don't rely on the markers. The cities are still in the same places though and if you look for the street signs and match the russian characters to the map, you'll be able to locate yourself and plan your route accordingly. As has been said before: loot and zombies currently only respawn on server reset and with people spawning in the exact same location you spawned, chances are the nearby locations have been emptied in the meantime. Locate youself, find a water pump and drink until you get a message that your stomach is full, and move inland. The further you get off the coast, the more items you will find. But most of all, be patient. The game in its current state is little more than bare bones functionality. There's a reason it won't advance to beta stage for at least a year. -
Show wear&tear of clothes/item/weapons
(TMW) Merino replied to MCRoadkill's topic in General Discussion
It is in for clothes and at least optics. I think the break point from the one to the other texture/model is from "worn" to "damaged". Clothes fade and have tears, dirt and scratches, optics on rifles shatter (which looks pretty impressive by the way). I don't think it's in for melee weapons yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the future, perhaps with more condition stages as well. Oh, it's also in for backpacks and motorbike helmets. -
SA - Is the blood regeneration working?
(TMW) Merino replied to Nahchito (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Mmm from what I observed the "my stomach is full" message can be misleading. It seems to come up for both full of fluids or full of food but it refers to two different... well, "storages" for a lack of a better word, as if food and drink don't end up in the same stomach. This means that your stomach can be full of water and you're still starving because your food storage is nearly empty. You can get the "my stomach is absolutely full" message while you're still on a too low food level to reach the high regenration stage. Make sure the message that you're stuffed comes up after eating something as well. Not getting no "I'm hungry/thirsty" message is not enough, work for the stuffed/full message. I can tell for sure that regeneration is working since I filled two bags of blood recently, my vision was almost all grey but color is noticably coming back. -
I was filling my canteen at a water pump in Zeleno when I saw a survivor appear around the corner of a nearby building. I've never been much of a fighter, used to be dedicated medic in the olden days, but even before I could greet him and ask if he needed medical attention, he opened fire. Fortunately, the canteen filling animation had just ended and I dashed for a nearby building. Afraid he would hunt me down I switched to an M4, peeked around the corner and unloaded half a magazine in his general direction to deter him which made him duck for cover behind a wrecked car. He had hit me, I was bleeding and there was a zombie running in my direction, I had to get out of there if I didn't want to lose what little medical supplies I had found so far which I actually wanted to put to good use. I got rid of the zombie and dashed towards the front door of an aparment building, entered it and slammed the door shut to be somewhat out of the danger zone and bandaged up. This was my first encounter with another person in the SA and not exactly the kind I was looking for. After making sure I was still alive and breathing, I slowly walked up the stairs of the building I had run into for cover and tried to locate him. I peeked out of the window at the car where the attacker had taken cover.. and saw him lying on the ground, moaning in pain. This wasn't what I intended. He was probably as surprised to see me as I was to see him and shot first to be somewhat safe. He attacked me and all, but I didn't mean to kill him. I cast the hard feelings aside, ran back down, intending to at least stabilze him. But first I would remove the magazine from his rifle. He was bleeding and would need at least a bandage to prevent him from bleeding out. I also had a saline IV to get him back up and even disinfectant to make sure I wouldn't unintentionally infect him in the process. However, just as I began the treatment he disappeared, apparently exited or respawned. This encounter made me think if I wanted to carry a gun at all if I were to return to medic duty at some point. I didn't need one in the past and I could just have legged it and lost him between the buildings if he would have chased me at all, rather than returning fire. This reminded me of It's quite threatening to see a decked out military dude with a gas mask and ballistic helmet, kevlar vest and an assault rifle with a bayonet, with there currently being no way to visually identify yourself as a medic. And of course even tempting, a gear pinata ready for the taking if you get the jump. That's when I decided to get rid of all weapons, ammo and sweet military equipment if I were to play as a dedicated medic again and only keep my trusty hatchet. Preferably giving them to a friendly survivor rather than dumping it in the woods. Coincidence had it that only about fifteen minutes later while I went through the rural outskirts of Zeleno, still thinking about how to proceed, I ran into a survivor with pretty much nothing on him at all who apparently had just finished his trip to Zeleno. He seemed to resignate at my sight, telling me over VOIP that he had nothing of value and that I should just go ahead and kill him if I wanted to. Of course I didn't, quite the contrary. We chatted for a while, turned out a fake friendly tricked him into lowering his guard and then killed him to take his gear, M4 with ACOG etc. I dropped all the military gear I had gathered throughout the past two days, a backpack with an extra can opener and several food and drink items, M4 with four mags and a full ammo box. Maybe getting another person back on track atones a little for ending another's journey earlier. While there aren't really any patients around yet I still have high hopes for DayZ SA and its health system. I'll certainly check back occasionally if time allows it and patch up some people. So if you see me run by in my makeshift doctor's clothes: don't shoot on sight, I'm carrying nothing but medical supplies that I hand out for free anyway.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.
(TMW) Merino replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Patched medic (DayZ 1.7.2.5, Arma2 95883) available primarily in the southwest, currently heading back from being reinserted at the east coast. Please double check your game versions or there are likely going to be problems meeting up. Scratch that. I got spawned at the coast, got several reports from fellow medics that they did as well and lost their entire gear, the artifacts aren't fixed for multiple people including me and there are serious problems for me and my patients joining any servers... I'll take another break till things run more smoothly again, this is just frustrating :/ -

Differences between SD and normal ammunition
(TMW) Merino replied to Koidn's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Take this with a grain of salt, only my personal experiences. The practical application in the game as far as I know: SD ammo does not attract zombies even if fired from a regular, non-SD weapon. They do sound the same to players however. Regular weapon with regular ammo: normal audbility for players and zombies Regular weapon with SD ammo: normal audibility for players, silent for zombies SD weapon with SD ammo: suppressed sound for players, silent for zombies SD weapon with regular ammo: not possible I can't comment on accuracy, bullet drop, accuracy etc. of SD rounds vs. regular rounds. -
