    Hilarious Robbery Gone Wrong =)

... I think I pee'd a little when you came back from unconsciousness and your equipments were swapped :D

What do YOU do when you are geared?

"Being geared" to me means being properly stocked on medical supplies, food and tools. I build what I consider 'rookie kits', plus being prepared for any injured person that I might meet. Then I travel to the coast and look for newspawns, preferably at night to be somewhat safe from bandits. I try to contact them while wearing only civilian clothes and no weaponn, and if they don't want to punch or shoot me, I'll offer them a rookie kit consisting of a can opener, a compass, a full canteen and a pack of rice and chat for a bit. Rinse and repeat until out of supplies or killed (or random char reset, like right now :(). Then respawn and start over. I don't know what it is, but I find the scavenging part of the game extremely satisfying and enjoyable. Every can opener I find makes me smile and the sheer surprise of the people that I meet is often priceless. A barely intelligible "thank you" in broken, stuttering russian-english is.. heart-warming :)

    character Reset fix SOLUTION

Thanks for the advice - unfortunately, waiting out the "please wait" for 40-120 seconds hasn't helped so far. I was joining DE 1-39 (started taking notes during the login process after losing a few characters), which was nicely populated at 36/40 with a ping of 30. Got stuck in the "please wait" dead-end and am sitting there for 15 minutes now. I know that I will respawn at the coast if I exit now, so I'm going to take the chance and wait for a server reset. Sure, not really worth the wait just for saving the gear and no, I don't really care about keeping my stuff, even though I'm currently nicely stocked - but I'd still like to know if it would help for those seeking advice like I did. I'll report back if I get booted off the server eventually or if it's still stuck in ~6 hours tops.

    Never play in the dark

Oh my... damn that's awesome :D I hope you or the actual stalker don't mind if I join in the fun next time I die. Too bad it's not the character ingame that might suffer a heart attack, I'm still looking for a chance to try out a defibrillator :P

    changed video settings, crashed game

Deleting your config file should fix this: go to C:\Users\[Your Name]\DayZ and delete the config file there. The game should load the defaults next time you start it.

    M4a4 bullets/magazine Question

You probably mean the M4A1. You need 5.56mm cartridges which can be found in magazines with a size of 10 to 60 or in cardboard boxes containing 20 each. You need to put them into a magazine first, then put the magazine into your rifle.
  9. I wouldn't be surprised if we heared more about the various status effects soon. They only put them in the inventory screen in the short period between the start of early access and when they took off for christmas. I'm sure they are only temporary and will see a lot of changes in the future, including explanations. I hope especially that energy and thirst get an immersive depiction like blood has with grayscale vision. A actually growling stomach would be awesome :)

    Need Help ASAP

Have you tried toggling Full Screen/ Window with Alt+Enter when the game is loaded up and your screen is black?
  11. All I can contribute to that is that you will notice a clear effect where you hit when you fight with your fists. If you punch a zombie in the head it will fall over very quickly. Punches to the chest don't have that effect so yes, it does seem to make a difference. The punches hit where the point is aiming. This is a lot easier in first person, at least to me. As for melee weapons I saw a stream with Rocket where he showed this himself: it's the swing the matters and where it connects. Take a weapon that swings straigth from the right to the left. You aim at the (from your point of view) left shoulder of your target. You start the swing on the right and, obviously, before the weapon reaches the left shoulder, it will hit the right shoulder. This is where is hit is registered (apart from lag, desync, all other kinds of other effects). At the moment the animation still continues after the hit, but Rocket clearly said that they want the animation to end as soon as it connects eventually.
  12. Eating and drinking enough is your only option if you don't have a friend who could help you with an IV. If you don't have the 'healing' status yet, you didn't eat/drink enough yet. See vid in my sig for more details.

    Character Screenshots!

After losing my last character in an unprovoked (well apart from... being there) attack, I decided to start a little experiment: does looking as non-threatening as possible increase the odds of not being shot on sight and allow for interaction other than logging out or dying? No visible weapons, not even an axe. Only a hidden pistol for when a zombie gets too close. Civilian clothes in calm colors, purple and blue instead of the previous red. No helmet, no military look at all. Only LBE gear, but not in camo. The two people I met so far haven't killed me yet and accepted my bandages and a free can opener, respectively. I wonder how long that streak is going to last.
  15. I play the game for the interaction with other people and that includes being robbed. It's those memories that stick and make a game special, not having the best gear evar in my eyes.
  16. Being low on blood results in no status effect, the gradual loss of color *is* the status effect. Try to find enough food and drink to get the 'healing' status so your blood and color will return. Alternatively, have your friend administer a saline IV to you.

    Why is my screen Gray?

You also need to be highly hydrated at the same time. Again I'll point at the video in my signature that I made specifically to adress eating, drinking and blood regeneration.

    Why is my screen Gray?

Ah okay, well you might want to head over to the bug reports section then. About the random zombie sounds: I read somewhere that they used the new zombie AI and used it for the few animals currently in the game, but didn't snip some pieces of code yet - so what you're hearing is actually a rabbit sitting in the grass

    Why is my screen Gray?

Color fades gradually from your view as blood level drops. When you see in almost all-gray, you're close to passing out. That's how you blood level is represented in the game so there is no status effect necessary. Immersion 'n stuff. If you bled, you probably bandaged quickly enough and didn't lose much and the change in color is so slight that it's barely noticable or not noticable at all. Hunger and thirst are difficult to do in an immersive way, so for now there's text messages and status effects when you're in dangerous ranges. Eating and drinking sufficiently then will give you the 'healing' status effect in the inventory screen which causes you to regenerate blood naturally and color will return to your vision. Being hungry and thirsty also has no negative effect on your blood level and therefore the color. Except in extremely low ranges, but then you will also be getting red messages that tell you that you are dying of thirst/starvation.

Most common ways you guys die.

    1. First time in the game, killed by an axeman while talking to another person 2. Shot in the back while scavenging for fresh saline bags to replenish my stocks 3. Mowed down by an M4 in the first house I entered after respawning 4. Sniped at the water pump in the first town one minute after spawning 2-4 all happened yesterday evening T-T Not counting intended and random character resets that happened in between. At least I just ran into a bleeding guy today who seemed lost, utterly confused an quite scared at my sight. I'm glad he didn't shoot and let me bandage him instead. Still, the 'friendly' vs. 'shot me on sight for no reason' ratio is still in favor of the former.
  21. (TMW) Merino

    Why is my screen Gray?

You mentioned eating a lot, but did you drink as well? You hydration has to be really high as well. If the 'healing' status effect never appeared in your inventory screen, you have always been too low on either energy or water. See the link in my signature to a video if you're interested in knowing how things work in the background.
  22. Experiment completed, here's the protocol: Spawned in Kamenka, didn't eat or drink anything, avoided all zombies and started sprinting to Zelenogorsk to start scavenging for food in the aparment blocks and market stalls. The search turned up a canteen, two packs of cereal, one pack of rice, three cans of tuna. I didn't take beans or sardines since I didn't have a can opener and I didn't want to fiddle with partial amounts, not knowingif and how the game rounds. This should still be enough to reach full regeneration. 1. Starting values: - energy: somewhere between 600 (had no messages yet) and the starting 1000, assuming 500 to be on the safe side - water: somewhere between 1000 and 1800; drank just enough from the canteen to get to above 2000 (not thirsty anymore) 2. Two full canteens at 1000 water each over 150 seconds - water: water rising from 2000 to 4000 3. Two packs of cereal, 2x930 energy, 2x-250 water over 105 seconds - energy: moving towards at least 2300 - water: now moving towards 3500 instead 4. One pack of rice, 3740 energy, -1000 water over 500 seconds - energy: now moving towards at least 6000 - water: now moving towards 2500 Next, I was going to drink a can of soda every minute for a total of five cans for an extra at 700 energy and 1500 water, but it wasn't necessary: just as I was about to drink the first can of soda, I noticed the 'healthy' status had appeared. Apparently I had already hit slow regeneration while I was busy satisfying the munchies. Conclusion: Being 'healthy' does not require you to have been 'healing' before. I had definitely not taken damage before and skipped the 'healing' phase entirely straight to 'healthy', which confirms that you do in fact spawn at full health. But the real eye-opener for me here: 'healthy' seems to mean "if you weren't at full blood and health already, you would be regenerating right now". Or differently put: 'healthy'/'healing' = in regeneration mode 'healing' = in regeneration mode and still injured 'healthy' = in regeneration mode and not injured anymore :D
  23. That is a really good point indeed. When it comes to blood I think it's pretty safe to assume that we start with it at the maximum - simply based on the fact that we see in full color and experience no effects that go along with a decreased blood level. But with health currently having no really observable effects, it's difficult to tell if we spawn with 5000/5000 or maybe 4000/5000. But if it's 5000/5000, why is there no 'healthy' status that does after all show up after regenerating/'healing'? Hmhmhm. This could be tested in a pretty easy way actually. Have a newly spawned player reach full regeneration level without taking damage so health is at the exact same level. Either be extra careful and avoid zombies at all cost, or bring a lot of supplies to the coast and have a banquet. I can't do the latter at the moment since I was shot about two hours ago and lost all my supplies *sniff* but with me currently standing at the coast, thinking what to do, I might as well try the former. I'll let you know if I find out something, for science! My best guess though: you do spawn with 5000/5000, but the 'healthy' status is a direct result of a completed 'healing' phase and only shows up after having regenerated previously lost health. No healing process completed, no 'healthy' status.

How do I interact with surroundings?

Feeling tired/ like taking a nap are messages that can be related to both low water and low energy levels. You need to eat and/or drink.
