Those numbers came originally from http://dayzdb.com/guide/11-standalone-status-effects which in turn come from the game files. By now I'm also able to cross-check those numbers myself, which helps a lot with verifying observations :) -

Uuuh I get all giddy when I see numbers going in on one side, science happening and different numbers coming out the other side - good job :) -

Well I already had a lot of data from research for previous videos that I could base this on, so it only took about a week's worth of evenings. They will :) That's great - I still have that on my to do list, but haven't gotten to it yet. I somewhat expected that the speed and/or the supposed scale of the map isn't that realistic, but that's obviously for gameplay reasons so I'm personally fine with it. Still curious how fast we actually go. -
How do sicknesses work and how do I survive them? A video explanation
(TMW) Merino posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Hello fellow survivors, in an attempt to answer the common question "What is happening when I'm sick?" I worked on another pretty in-depth video that covers the general anatomy of sicknesses and what you can do to increase you chances of surviving them - especially anticipating what more there is to come in the future. Understanding Sicknesses and Surviving Poisoning And as a special bonus: If you ever wondered what it looks like when you lose almost all your blood and health and gain it back, enjoy this time lapse: Time Lapse of Chemical Poisoning -

I wanted to avoid just that,so the song is audioswapped in directly from you YouTube. If they block their own songs that they suggest you may add... well. But since it seems that a lot of people don't like this song I swapped it again. -

Haha, only with a very low priority. I needed some help in an experiment that involved several blood bags and saline IVs. But rather than one assistant, three arrived and I didn't want them to have run across the map for nothing. So we did a few ballistic tests at Solnichniy and I survived at least one of them - showing that a ballistic helmet does catch a single 5.56mm bullet. But... only one. At least the spawn points are pretty close to the testing range *cough* -

My assistants find particular enjoyment in lining up my corpses like a human centipede during ballistic tests. Not sure if that is sufficient reason to initiate a study in human psychology but it was certainly worth a lot of laughs. And yes, a lot of the raw numbers come from the game files. I try to put them into context and make them understandable so we can put that information to use while actually playing and making better decisions in the game by being aware of how the mechanics are tied together. -

Thanks for the votes :) Not quite about those ml units on the game. Those stem from the number of uses an item has internally, which is 10 for canteens. Drinking from it once consumes two of its uses. I'm pretty sure this will be (display-wise) converted to a proper amount later, such as 1000ml and drinking 200ml with each sip. Drinking from ponds and pumps would then be 100ml each, which would somewhat make sense. -

Lurking with my phone on the way home. It's not technically wrong, but it's missing a piece of informatiom that I only became aware of while working on my next video. Here's what happens: Healthy and sick occupy the same 'slot' in your inventory screen. If you become sick while being healthy, the status is overwritten. Upon the end of the sick status it gets removed - but the healthy status does not reappear like it should. If you continue to fulfill the criteria for being healthy while sick, nothing updates your status. Only when something happens that causes a check, such as taking damage and the following regeneration sets in, it is updated and reappears. You can see this clearly in a video I'm currently working on. It will probably be ready by tomorrow. .... aaaand I'm (almost) home

Can't find 3PP:off full day cicle servers

Servers hosted by MPGS.CO are 24/7 daytime. There aren't that many 3PP:OFF, but you should find a few. -
Avoid approaching well-equipped players. The more (visible) stuff they have, the more likely they will consider you a threat to their stuff - and the less likely that they need/want your help. Even if somebody doesn't have a visible weapon, always remember that they may have a hidden .45 or a Magnum. If they only have a (visible) melee weapon, still be careful about approaching them, they may still suddenly attack you. Don't move or even run directly towards people, it makes you look very threatening and they may panic, acting in self-defense which they may not have done otherwise. Obviously, don't have a weapon in hand and don't have your fists up. Personally, I don't carry visible weapons when looking out for people to help at all. Also, never get too close to anyone if they aren't aware of your presence yet. Make them aware of your presence by talking in direct, maybe from the opposite side of a wall or from outside a house while they are inside. Judge from their reaction what their intentions may be. If they run away, don't chase. If they approach you without talking, back up, but make sure you aren't being pushed into a corner. If they stay at a distance and start to communicate - those are the people you may be able to help.

Water and energy consumption rates figured out - and they are not as I expected
(TMW) Merino posted a topic in General Discussion
Hello fellow survivors, I been trying to give a proper answer rather than vague advice to the question "How much do I really need to eat and drink?" for a while. When I got to think more about it, I realized that something important is missing: water and energy consumption rates. A few days and numerous experiments later, here's what I came up with: - The game only differentiates two states: I call them active and idle - You are idle whenever you are not moving - You are active whenever you are moving, disregarding the speed That means that you expend the same amount of water and energy in a given period of time whether you are crawling, jogging or sprinting at top speed. And here are the rates: - while active, your storages drain at a rate of 20 water and 15 energy per minute - while idle, your storages drain at a rate of 8 water and 4 energy per minute See for yourself how I came to those conclusions: Water and energy consumption worked out And here's how we can apply this knowledge to make proper statements like "A can of baked beans contains enough energy to run for 31 minutes and enough water to run for 17 minutes" - for all foods and drinks: How much do I really need to eat and drink? I hope this information is helpful to you in any way, shape or form and maybe you can think of other scenarios where it can be applied to work out more stuff. For science! Stay healthy, my friends- 34 replies

I wouldn't necessarily agree that being interested in the numbers and mechanics that make something work can only be done in an attempt of trying to figure out to be the best at it and therefore, "winning". Personally I don't care about aquiring a statistical, mathematical, game-mechanical advantage at all. I use only "inferior" civilian clothes with less inventory slots but a look that I prefer over military-style. I don't wear a helmet although it can easily save your life. I don't even carry a rifle and rarely a melee weapon and leave the over the shoulder slots empty. On the other hand I carry several items in my inventory that have no game mechanical function whatsoever. Or are distinctively inferior to other items that are just as or easier available, namely filled blood bags. Because it just feels right. Because it makes the game fun to me. And so does understanding how things work. It's part of playing to play to me, "winning" has no role in it whatsoever. -

I tested this twice with stage 4 red food poisoning from rotten fruit and then overdrinking to encourage vomiting. Both times the red sickness status was overwritten with the green sick of vomiting and the red text messages kept appearing. Also, water was draining at an increased rate and blood and colors were fading, the symptoms of food poisoning. This showed twice that vomiting did not clear up the food poisoning but, also that it's possible to have multiple afflictions manifesting themselves in different ways at the same time. -
Weapon juggling and basic questions
(TMW) Merino replied to Hasselhoff92's topic in New Player Discussion
I advise against carrying food. You have an enormous internal energy storage, it won't go to waste if you eat it. Quite the opposite, it wastes inventory space if you don't. You will gain the healthy or healing status in the inventory screen when you ate and drank enough and maintain that level for an extended period of time. Once you're reached that point, your body will begin to restore blood and health naturally. You should always aim for that - especially if you have a food surplus it's easy to achieve. See my signature for more details. -

Best way to lose PLAYERS that are chasing you?

The one advice I can give you is that if you decide to run, make sure you do so with your fists raised before you double tap W. It's 16% faster than with your fists lowered. -

You may of course ask for more, but since the holidays are over and I'm back to my regular full-time job and quite a few other responsibilities, it's inevitable that I won't be able to keep up the pace of the last two weeks. The next big thing on my list is the next part of the medical system though. The effects (or rather lack thereof) of various conditions, diagnosis, treatment, etc. It's progressing really slowly though since most effects either take a long time to develop, have a certain chance of taking different courses and may or may not require multiple treatments with either only a chance of working, requiring a dosage higher than one or only have an effect over an extended period of time. Conditions also take a long time to subside during which I can't do anything else if I don't want to obscure the observations. This takes signigicantly longer than eating a quarter of a can of sardines and running for a minute. Sure I could just recite what can be read everywhere already, but I'd like to see the effects for myself so I can be sure of them. I cannot refute rumors going around about things that may have worked for somebody, which is often based on seeing cause and correlation where there is none in my opinion, if I cannot prove the opposite. There's nothing to be gained in that... So, I will need some time to come up with something meaningful. But don't worry: I don't have plans to go anywhere anytime soon and Alpha is still going to be long - and then there's still Beta :> -
