DayZ: Origins (RELEASED)

I keep getting compatibility errors saying the server is ver. 1.5.0 while i'm on 1.7.4.4. I'm using DayZCommander. Does somebody know how to fix this issue? -

So sometime before April it is then :D Boy I sure hope rocket comes back in one piece from Mt. Everest because if he doesn't then DayZ will seem to have become a cursed project. With two crucial team members Ivan and Martin jailed in Greece, and bad press by mistaken identity from misinformed people (thanks WarZ), things could get creepy. -

I say you might as well buy Arma 2:CO since rocket's not even sure when the game will be released himself, and even if he did you still couldn't 100% take him at his word on it (based on past history). DayZ is extremely fun btw and not only compared to WarZ, but in general.

Have you ever thought of adding "radiation" elements from the STALKER series to DayZ? And if so, what are the chances of it happening at some point? Or how about other dangers like the elemental dangers (i forget the name) in the form of invisible/visible balls of energy but with different effects (ala STALKER)?

Rocket mentioned recently that he intends to add ragdoll effects for the standalone. Also, that the standalone will be running on a special version of the RV engine, 'RV 3.5' - as opposed to Arma III's RV 4.0. They will be simpler ragdolls than the ones you will find in the upcoming Arma III. I haven't seen how Arma III handles ragdolls, so maybe it's pretty realistic. But when Rocket says its going to be less sophisticated ragdoll physics system than the one in Arma III, that is where I get a little worried. Though as crazy as this may sound, I can't help but feel this will take away from the immersion. Like if you were to hit a zombie with a grenade and he shoots out hundreds of feet into the sky, with all his limbs intact, flopping around like a guy in Gary's Mod. I also wouldn't want a system like in L4D2 where cutting zombies limbs off is as intuitive as slicing butter, and the zombies barely acknowledge it. In GTAIV the 'realism' of the euphoria engine I guess was a step in the right direction, but in that too the animations seemed kind of - for lack of a better word - "off", also sluggish and floaty. It's kind of a quandary I guess, since adding ragdolls arguably adds to the realism of a game, yet usually it also adds unintended cartoon-ish/comical occurrences that I think DayZ's atmosphere might do better without. I'm sure you guys have varying opinions on ragdolls in DayZ as well. Obviously we'll all find out how it turns out by years end.

With your rig I'd say bite the bullet and go with a new PSU, AT LEAST a 600w. I suggest the Thermaltake branded ones because I've bought 3 of them on Amazon so far, and they all work flawlessly even after years of use.

Tin Foil hat moment: I wonder if Steam KNOWS how bad WarZ is, and since Steam gets like 30% commission on every sale, maybe Steam is intentionally holding back the release of DayZ just so they can squeeze some money out of the WarZ while it's still the only option (of the two) available. Plus, we all know once DayZ SA releases, WarZ will lose more than half of their sales right off the bat and probably more shortly there after. -

I forgot to add, dayzcommander is virtually zero maintenance compared to the older method. Very clean and simple interface too. -

You don't like to install things yet you say you prefered the old way of doing things better? Well, I just started re-playing DayZ after months, and I used to do the exact things you did. TRUST ME, do yourself a favor and install DayZ commander. You can update everything right on a tab, the arma2 beta, dayz version, EVEN individual fanmade DayZ maps like Namalsk and Fallujiah! PLUS, if it's the Steam overlay you want, then there is an option on DayZCommander itself that will accomodate you. So, like I said save yourself the trouble and spend the 30 seconds it takes to download DayZCommander, you'll thank us later. -
Sniping needs to be balanced

Snipers in theory are pretty balanced as is. The problem is with duping. When every 12 year old and his mother has an M107, then you're gonna have a bad time. -
