My ideas for plausible NPC survivors.

Well this is just a basic (incomplete) outline of how they might work. And hey, you gotta start somewhere, right? Dogs will eventually be in the game but won't be fully featured until many updates to come. I don't see why it couln't work with NPC survivors as well, going from initially barebone features to eventually getting fully decked out sophisticated A.I.

My ideas for plausible NPC survivors.

Point to roam the earth? Well, I guess the same point we have to roam the world - to survive. Gather supplies and survive as long as possible. I would hope this would inject some much needed variety into the DayZ formula. Keep it fresh.

    Storm's comin'

Isn't that what happens every time you use a lee enfield in either Cherno or Elektro? :P

    Cyanide pills/airtanks for low-air tires

I don't know if it's already a feature in the SA or alpha. But I'd like to be able to get flat tires once in a while that would need either going to a gas station for air, or for me to already have an airtank/canister in my trunk/person. PLUS that one tool you use to tell you specifically how much air is needed, so you don't put in too much or too little into the tire. So to sum up, that's 2 new items: -A portable airtank for tires on low air (obviosly gas stations would need to be modified to allow air-refueling) -An air meter/reader thing that helps you monitor tire pressure and such. And I guees 1 new gameplay addition: -The ability to get low-air tires that can be fixed adding air to them.

    Cyanide pills/airtanks for low-air tires

Okay the odds of having a cyanide pill in real life is probably slim unless you are a master chemist or a spy, and you probably wouldn't want to have one anyway. But during a zombie epidemic one might find it reasonable to expect a rise in the demand for cyanide pills. I mean let's face it, if you are out of bullets, and are moments away from getting disemboweled by a hoard of zombies, taking a pill to kill yourself with doesn't seem like a bad idea. As for how this could work gameplay-wise, here are a few ideas: - It could be a more realistic approach to suicide instead of pressing a button on the start screen. - If you want to hide your body asap from other people nearby. Also good if you don't want a bunch of zombies eating you, which might tip off a bandit who would in turn steal your loot before your reincarnated self can get to it first. OFF- TOPIC Ideas: -Dying from fire inhalation, like the japanese during WWII, they would hide in caves and soldiers would use a flamethrower not to burn them but to suck out all the air inside which would end up killing them. -Add caves, lols...and flamethrowers.
  11. It's nice to see Chernarus finally hiring an interior decorator.

    Is Rocket actually Bear Grylls?

Bear Grylls would never survive in Chernarus. Or at least not until update 1.7.4, where in the option to eat nuts from a bear's shit pie will become available. Bear Grylls: HEY GUYS, WHOSE UP FOR SOME SHITTED NUTS AND PISS FOR LUNCH TODAY? I'M BUYING!

Maybe Greece is secretly trying to resurrect the Spartans from 300 at that airport and those meddling BIS employees came too close to the truth.

    Dog fights?

Before you report me to the imperial guards, ponder this scenario: You have a dog + the bandit that is trying to kill you also has a dog. The bandit's dog runs to where you and your dog are hiding...what's next? Answer: A dog fight! Now, I'm not saying we need to consult Michael Vick on how to make these dog fights as realistic as possible, but i'd expect there to AT LEAST be some sort of canine vs. canine action. Anyway, I hope this gets implemented at some point, if it's not already there.

    Dayz and 'perks'

I agree with Rocket on this one: If you are able to do it in real life, then you should be able to do it in DayZ. F ingame books.

    spray paint/mark on walls

Reasons why spraying/writing on walls (or whatever) could work in DayZ: - Almost every zombie, horror, game that I can think of has had at least some messages sprayed in graffiti and or written in marker on the walls. Resident evil 2 in the Raccoon City streets, and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 (Chicago Ted). And you know why most of these games have them?...because they add to the atmosphere. It gets you thinking: Who wrote this? When did they write this? Why did they write this? - It could be reset every 7 hours or so, that way Chernarus won't look like a Jackson Pollock painting. - Maybe also have the ability to erase drawings for example by combining your water bottle with a sponge, or towel. - More variety into the game. Different color markers, spray cans, empty spray cans, strewn all around Chernarus. - Even though I personally wouldn't care for this feature: The ability to paint your vehicles, and weapons as well. - Imagine how hilarious it would be if a guy in Chernogorsk began drawing little houses with arrows on them indicating the directions they need to turn to get to the 'safehouse', i.e. church, in an homage to l4d. The possibilities are endless as to how making your own messages in DayZ could enhance the playing experience overall.

    spray paint/mark on walls

Also, the devs should look at examples from other games that have tried something similar, say Counter Strike: Source on PC, and modify it so it fits with what rocket is trying to do. So, in Counter Strike, you can make a personal 'spray' (which is just a 250x250 pic you might get from google). The way it works is that once you spray it on a surface, it stays there for the remainder of the match unless someone sprays over it, or you decide to spray the pic somewhere else then the previous one dissappears from the surface it was posted on. The problem with that method is that people can just re-size any pic to those dimensions - a pic which might be pornographic in nature, or graphic in other ways. It seems that in at least half of the CSS servers I play in, theres always one guy posting Digimon porn. A way to bypass this unfortunate effect could be to have it so you have to create your sign/spray whithin the DayZ menu. That way people are less likely to just make pornographic images themselves (by drawing them), than if they could just copy/paste the stuff. IDK I'm sure there's another, better method out there on how spraypainting/drawing on walls (or other surfaces) could work in Dayz - while discouraging people from just drawing dicks everywhere - someone (the community, or the Devs) just has to figure it out.

    spray paint/mark on walls

Yeah I can agree with this. Limiting you to a certain amount of graffitti 'slots' could mitigate the dick onslaught that would arise. At least it might force you to think more creatively before you decide to scribble something down. I say even making it so that you only have ONE chance to write/draw something, I think would make for a safe way for Rocket to test this feature out.

    Midget Zombies?

I have never seen a zombie who used to be a dwarfen human being. Rocket, now is your chance to make history... But seriously, this would be like having kids in the game but without all the QQ'ing from the media outlets that would more than likely come with it. Make it a rare spawn. Hell, it'd be scary to see a mini-mee version of the checkered shirted french hat zombie running at you in the woods - but with maybe more squeakier sounding groans.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Is it still reasonable to expect DayZ standalone before the end of the year? I mean I'm not complaining, because I'm more than willing to wait longer if need be. I just would like to know if things are going 'to plan' thus far with the game's development. The way I see it, I suspect Rocket wants to get it out before the competitors like Class 3 or WarZ come out. However, since all signs indicate that those two games won't be posing a major threat to DayZ - especially after that god awful gameplay footage from War Z (bleh!) recently released - I think Rocket will be soon be announcing a delay in the release date, re-schedualing it for sometime early next year.
  22. I got this idea from watching an episode of Life After People from the History Channel. I know this is probably something that would need to be in a new map since there is no chemical plant or whatever in Cherno (that I know of). The jist of the idea: Since there are no people left maintaining toxic/biological/nuclear/radioactive waste sites, then reactors might leak/explode and spread toxic/redioactive gas into the atmosphere and also maybe contaminate drinking water. Lets face it, this idea sounds like it's ripping off STALKER or something. BUT in real life this is very likely to happen, and I am lead to believe DayZ is supposed to emulate an authentic ('realistic') zombie apocalypse, so why not include this? Just some of the gameplay benefits of having radiation/toxic danger into the world of DayZ: -Toxic zombies (Dun, Dun, Dun). -New tools: Radiation/toxicity Meters, rad suits -Black rain clouds (contaminated clouds that have acidic rain which galvinizes player to look for cover) like those experienced by Hiroshima, Nagasaki atomic bomb victims. -Your character loses hair if he gets too much exposure. Boils on the face/hands? -You die if exposed for too long. -Other survivors might avoid or discriminate against those with higher radiation levels. -Looting of a contaminated player/zombie might be too risky if you don't have the proper protection (rad suit). ...Your thoughts?

Toxic/Radioacive waste from reactors leaking because of no maintenance

Well I don't know how you know that theres no way to escape toxic rain (Uhh, take cover maybe? hurr durr). And I take "frustrate" to mean it would make DayZ harder - I see that as a very very GOOD thing. All of this Toxicity/Radiation business should (in my view) be subtle and whithin reason, certainly wouldn't expect it to overshadow the main threat the zombies/survivors make, but to supplement them.

Toxic/Radioacive waste from reactors leaking because of no maintenance

    I don't. Read the second sentence buddy :D .
  25. Just some ideas on how they might work for/in DayZ: -Civilian handheld video cams should be available to find, what with a zombie outbreak going on, it would be reasonable to expect survivors roaming around with one in an attempt to document the devastation - ala the [REC] movie series. -Have you ever wondered what happened to those bear traps you planted - did a survivor/bandit/someone's dog get cought in one? Well now you can find out for yourself! -You could even start a sort of treaseure hunt by dropping cassettes giving clues as to where they can find a stash of loot (STALKER anyone?), OR EVEN YOU! :murder: - Leave spooky or encrypted messages on tape! -GREEN MOUNTAIN + cams = endless possibilities. (NOT REALISTIC BUT) -Survivors or bandits could use them (with/without tripods) as a surveilance device - ala Gary's Mod. And yes, I do realize this might break the realism since you can't view what you're taping on a normal handheld cam in real time if you're not there to view it (IRL they're might be a way, but I'm talking about everyday 'cheap' cams).
