    DayZ Stories

So today was a pretty uneventful day. Just raiding some houses and barns in... god knows where I am... I come across a large town with a Grocery Store in it. Sure enough, there's no gun in here that can replace my shitty Makarov, but I snag myself a compass. Just as I was making my way out the back I aggro'd a single zombie. "No biggie," I thought to myself, "I'll lure it in and take it out with my Makarov". But, for some inexplicable reason, my avatar decided that this zombie deserved to be kill by my LEE ENFIELD instead! With the zombie chewing on my face, I panicked and fired, taking him out and "ringing the dinner bell". 15 minutes later, I'm picking through the remains of roughly 20 zombies littered inside the Grocery Store, desperately looking for food, bandages, and more ammo for my Makarov. I'm surprised that no bandit came to investigate all the gun-fire I was spewing around. I really need to fix this mouse. The mouse wheel bugs out sometimes...

I love this thread for the stories of broken legs and death bunnies :D

So tried using the toolbox on this...

Yes and it keeps getting worse lol. People are barbwiring everything. Warehouses' date=' grocery stores, firehouses, etc etc... Anything that spawns more than like 3 items. Up till now I have been able to remove most of it. [/quote'] If its any consolation, you can actually smash the windows of the grocery stores and climb in.

    Barn House Shenanigans

Its possible that they were both part of a larger group that had a stash somewhere, and they simply rearmed off that. But yeah, 5 minutes in impossibly fast, even for that.

    Melee vs Rifle

I would say stick with the hatchet until you have ample supplies and gear. Once you have that, and you've learned how to deal with zombies with the pistol, you can opt for the Rifle for protection against bandits. The Rifle is almost never used for zombies because of how loud it is, unless you're really desperate. But it will give you a fighting chance against bandits, so it will be handy to have.
  10. I would LIKE to kill a bandit. But everytime I come across another player my mind goes, "wait... what if he's friendly?", and I die. I hate my stupid naive brain.

    I just died...

I've died plenty of times already, but the last 2 were significant. 1) I walked out of a barn into a horde of zombies, so I retreat back inside, head up to the first floor, readied my pistol, and then the barn exploded and I died. 2) I accidentally aggro'd a zombie in a field, because I only had guns and I was surrounded by zombies at the time, I had to run. I decided to make my stand in one of the large red buildings. The step to enter this red building was one of those where it was too high to step up normally and the way to get up is to press V. So I pressed V, but instead of stepping up onto the step to enter the building, I phased into the floor, which caused me to die instantly. Both times I had pretty much all the survival gear I needed, I was just raiding for better weapons and a map :( I'm gonna take a short break. Need to cool off.
  12. A while ago I was raiding Cherno. I was in the Supermarket with next to nothing on me besides my axe and a Revolver with only 1 mag, when I heard a gunshot killing a zombie right outside, followed by footsteps entering. Against my better judgement I announced my presence without taking out my Revolver, saying I was friendly and I had nothing on me. The guy calmly walks in, takes out his Lee Enfield, and shoots me in the head. From now on, I will always shoot first.

Should I keep the CZ 550?

Well I'm horrible at judging distance without a rangefinder, so that's probably just me =P Swapped my CZ for a Lee Enfield the first chance I got.

    DayZ Stories

I have official survived my second day in DayZ. This is a new achievement. Granted I was really far inland and I'm actually hopelessly lost, but throughout the whole time I kept hearing gun shots behind me. It feels like someone's following me... Maybe I'm just being paranoid, every gun shot sound came from a different gun... but still...

Should I keep the CZ 550?

Its useful for protecting your friend, but its not easy to use. You need to calibrate the range on that thing for every shot, and you probably need a rangefinder to know what range to calibrate it too in the first place. My advice, unless you're gonna go all out and learn how to use it, drop the CZ. There are other Sniper Rifles in the game with built in range finders, and there's even a Silenced one.

    Melee Weapon Use

Firstly, double check that you have the crowbar in your primary weapon slot. Secondly, try pressing 'R' to reload the thing. You have to reload melee weapons when you first pick them up, but you get 10000 hits with them so its practically limitless. Thirdly, swap the crowbar for a Hatchet as soon as possible. The crowbar takes a while to kill zombies, the hatchet is 1-hit-ko. When you first pick up the hatchet it'll go to your toolbelt. Drop the crowbar, right click the hatchet, and click on 'Remove from toolbelt', you'll equip the Hachet as a primary weapon. Right click it and select 'Add to toolbelt' if you want it to go back to your toolbelt.
  19. This mod is very unforgiving. It has an insanely steep learning curve and, just like real life, you have to balance luck with skill and patience. One of the things people like to do after they just spawn is to get to one of 2 cities, Cherno or Electro. These cities are so huge that there will almost definitely be some good gear left in them. Cherno is larger so I prefer to just head to Cherno. There are 'routes' you can take through the city that help minimize your chances of meeting bandits, but your safety can never be guaranteed. The good news is, once you've collected some essential gear from the city, you can start heading inland and it'll seem much easier to survive then. The mod used to give everybody guns at spawn, but it was removed a while ago.
  20. I've had some pretty bad experiences. More often than not I end up getting shot at while I'm looting a major city. I will only approach people if: 1) I have very little equipment on me 2) They're in serious trouble and I help them out Otherwise, I avoid direct contact like the plague.
  21. You can sometimes find better Assault Rifles in really large cities like Cherno and the CZ550 Sniper Rifle in barns, but they're pretty rare. Army Bases, Dear-stands, and helicopter crash sites are the go-to places for better weapons. BUT, everybody knows that. So more often than not by the time you find such a location it would already have been looted, or you might run into a bandit who was heading that way as well. The Army Bases can be found on the map, dear-stands are fixed locations, and helicopter crash sites spawn in random locations.
  22. Why the hell did you have so little blood when you had all that gear?! You could've spent a short while hunting and easily be back to full health' date=' especially since you had all the equipment you needed to cook food. Why'd you risk a zombie encounter? You know that zombies have a very slim chance, but its still a chance, of knocking you out when you're under 9000 blood IN ADDITION to their chance to cause bleeding. Yet you still risked it. Bandages are one of the most common 'useful item' spawns you can find. You either had impossibly bad luck, or you were going through an area that had just recently been looted.

    DayZ Stories

I got one, this just happened yesterday. I was just about to loot the northern hospital in Cherno. It was my last stop in a raid that lasted for almost an hour. I'd been hearing gun-fire coming from this general direction every now and then, so I was extra cautious. Just as I rounded the corner of the apartment and got the hospital in sight, I heard a rifle shot coming from the apartment directly opposite the hospital. Sure enough, the dude managed to stir up EVERY ZOMBIE IN THE AREA! I almost shat myself when all those zombies came running, but thankfully they ran right past me and headed straight for the apartment. I made a bee-line for the hospital while the battle was raging right next door. Having got what I needed, I decided to raid one of the apartments because there were still zombies streaming towards the poor sod. But just as I was about to leave, the sound of gun fire stopped, and then I heard footsteps coming straight for the apartment I was in. I was crouched in the stairway between the 1st and 2nd floor when the dude ran right in front of me into the room in the first floor. I didn't know if he was hostile or friendly, so there was only one solution... I climbed up to the roof and hid there with my gun pointing at the only entrance. I must've stayed there for over a minute before I worked up the courage to climb down. When I got out of the apartment I took off running for the forest. Stealth be damned, I'd rather aggro a few zeds than risk giving whatever bandit is prowling around an easy target.
