Wow really? Again?
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to DielnStyle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, this is already an issue being discussed anyway, but it is annoying and it's happened to me too. Me and a friend were alone, travelling through the woods, we had to shoot off some zombies and then we start getting shot at from nowhere, we run and think we escape, we were wrong. We start travelling through the woods again, hoping our attackers have lost us. After a while, my friend checks his gear and takes a shot to the arm, I then run around towards where the shot came from to flank them. They saw me coming and I got hit. I get an aim on one of the bastards and drop him like a sack of shit. I then go to loot the body once I think it's safe. Only to notice that there is no body... and I have no murders... Yep, alt+f4 again. The pathetic thing is, these guys started the fight and didn't have the balls to finish it with honor. -
New players cant get past learning curve
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to Sidewinderx84's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't get the game because DayZ has bugs? That's unfair. You were never charged to play DayZ, so don't complain about the bugs and other issues, it's free, show some gratitude. Also, it's alpha, like everyone says. If you don't like playing games that are buggy and broken then don't download alpha mods. The fact that it's a mod will make bugs even more frequent, live with it, it's nothing game-breaking. I bought ArmA for DayZ only too, got pretty annoyed with the install, didn't come here to rant about it though, just got on with it and eventually got in game. Wandered around, got killed many times without even finding a hatchet, got frustrated, stil didn't feel the need to complain, as I remembered it was still in development, and a mod afterall. In conclusion, if you're tired of the generic, blow zombies to smithereenes mainstream market and want something more immersive and unique, definitely get this, and push through the learning curve, don't be a wuss and give up because zombies are bugged, remember it's not complete, you're not paying for the MOD, but the ArmA 2 game itself. -
DE 247 Hacker
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to Tweeniepops's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, sounds like a hacker just trying to make the server look bad. Should of checked his name on the player list. It should say *Admin* next to their ping if he actually was an admin. -
Zombies are overpowered since patch 1.7.2 (Video as proof)
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to wietse02's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it's good in a way, since you can't just walk out in front of them and expect to be unseen, but at the same time you could be prone in tall grass and they'd still see you. I've always thought that the zombies needed to pose a bigger threat, but not in a way in which avoiding them is based on luck, rather than skill in sneaking. The game needs a good balance of PVP and PVE, the latter of which is the unbalanced one. I think they're experimenting on how to make the zeds pose more of a threat, but in my opinion, this just makes them down right unfair. Perhaps if they could do a ton of damage or maybe cause infection randomly on a hit, the same way they can cause bleeding. -

I think everyone who was new to the game after they removed the weapon on spawn felt the same. You've got to adapt. I used to want a weapon at spawn but now I don't, it helps you overcome the learning curve of searching for loot much easier, since you value anything you find. Finding an axe is easy, you just gotta look in the right places. Search cities or head straight north from the coast, find towns in-land, they're more likely to have loot.

The reason why it's "shoot on sight"
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's because the PvE is so goddamn easy. As many other people have said, the zeds are just a minor inconvenience. Traveling from town to town is easy because you're unlikely to even encounter any NPC threat on the way there. The infected may as well not even be there, you could replace the whole infection apocalypse with an earthquake or nuclear winter and it'd be the same thing. There's more focus on survival than the threat of the infected. The AI is too predictable. Don't get me wrong, I love the way the game is at the moment, but humans shouldn't be a bigger threat than the infected, it makes no sense really. If we're all forced into a world where we must fight off these monstrosities and survive, why the hell would we be killing each other? However, PvP is still needed. Bandit groups that raid survivor camps in order to survive, that is what I think it should be. Not killing for shits and giggles. -
Reward for knocking out a player.
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to interceptor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
When I read the title I thought you were going to suggest getting a free gun for knocking someone out. I agree that there should be a way to knock someone out. It'll create so much more immersion and fun moments. There's a guy looting a barn, completely oblivious to your presence, you sneak up behind him with a shovel and BAM! Spade to the back of the head, out cold. Then you either loot his body or leave him as he no longer poses a threat. I think that'd be better than sending two bullets into his back. -
Decrease of view distance by choice
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to itsjustgene's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't see why not. As long as it's up to the player then it doesn't exactly ruin anyone else's experience. I agree, gaming is an expensive hobby but there should be more settings for those with low-end PCs. If you didn't mention your tight budget, I can pretty much guarantee that you'd be getting "Get a new PC" from a lot of spoiled kids. -
A new "Virus" is in game spreading to the forums
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to OrLoK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not just the forum. It's in-game as well. Almost everyone has been reduced to kill-on-sight because the griefers have made everyone paranoid. Sadly, it's more of a single-player experience unless you join a group outside of the game, which completely kills immersion. I can't walk up to someone and say "Hey, I'm friendly don't shoot" anymore because 90% of the time I'm going to be shot by paranoid/griefing players. Most of the community is killing this mod for me. I can't really enjoy it with all the egotistical, immature imbeciles roaming around acting like they know best. Kids will be kids I suppose... -

Go to your options and look for the 'Toggle View' setting. If you can't get it to work, try setting the controls back to default. EDIT: Like most have said, make sure it's not just the server. The name of the server usually has tags such as [3DP: OFF].

Crossbow bolts show up in gear after shooting zed
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to ryanmulder@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes, I have no doubt this will be added due to how stupidly difficult the current system makes it. I think from a roleplay standpoint, your character could easily flip the zed over and rip out the bolt, instead of just give up because it's not visible. -
RIP DayZ - Yogcast started a LP
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to bonafide's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
This is one of those things where complaining about it makes you look like an idiot, but you can't help hating it. I think these guys are great, but they did kind of give this mod a bad impression. Most of their fans on the YouTube comments are taking the piss out of the DayZ players who play for immersion and atmosphere. Whereas they may want to come in guns blazing. Hard to really make an argument about it, since it's so pointless. Yes, the game is about immersion, but if the community starts to get snobby and arrogant to the Yogscast fans (I have no doubt there will be an army of them soon), it's going to really ruin the experience, it'll give the mod an awful name if the community all start acting like up tight hardcore gamers. I agree with some of you that it may be bad publicity, but it's not our right to tell people if they can play. -
The time when I had the most fun in this game was when I was new. Embrace the danger. It's like a narcotic, I'm constantly trying to recreate the same feeling I got when I first played. Can't do it. I know how the infected AI works, I know where players are more likely to be, I know where guns spawn, hopefully the sense of danger will increase in 1.7.2.

Losing Your Humanity (Penalty For Murdering)
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to Ad-man's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You shouldn't be punished for killing a player, in my opinion. It's the apocalypse, you do what you can to survive, you may feel guilty, but you wouldn't become a paranoid wreck because you can justify it in your own mind. Also, the screen blurring/shaking thing to simulate guilt/nervousness, is just simplifying the game too much. There are some people that exist in real life that kill just because they don't like the look of someone, and then feel absolutely nothing after doing it. I do agree on one thing, however. PvP for the sake of PvP. People who kill for fun. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't almost everyone doing it out of boredom. For this to be prevented, I think the zombies need to pose a much larger threat, once you've stocked on supplies, you don't even begin to think about them. So, let's face it, all there is to do is either roam around, loot more or look for vehicles, and even after that, you're gonna get bored. So, in conclusion, there needs to be more emphasis on the threat of zombies, they can be easily killed and avoided. Instead of just "Oh well, you've ran out of things to do, so you may as well go kill some newbies in Cherno." It should be "Okay, got my gear, I should be able to hold off some zombies but I can't really do it alone." Although, it as an alpha mod, so obviously things are still being added, but this is the suggestion section after all. -
Struggling to find food or weapons
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to Masok88's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, Grocery Stores are the absolute best for all-round gear. Bags, guns, watches, maps, compasses. If you're lucky you can get them all in one store. Apartments are also good for sidearms and food/drink. They're usually bricked buildings, either red, orange or beige. Hospitals for medical supplies (obviously), or military camps, tents and dead soldiers, there's one in Cherno. If you're out in the wilderness, barns and deer stands are the best for weapons. Airfields are risky but can be very rewarding. I did a run of Balota airfield earlier and managed to get an AK with about 5 mags. Once you know Cherno/Elektro's map, you can start doing loot-runs. You'll probably end up with a lot of drinks, guns and tools within 20 minutes. -
Lagging a bit check my specs.
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to sumusiko's topic in New Player Discussion
The game does have some framerate drops. Although, I'm not an expert on hardware, I can tell you that sometimes it's just clutter of data in the servers that causes fps drops. The best way to tell if it's the server and not you, is to wait until it restarts. You can tell it's restarting because you'll get the broken red chain in the corner of the screen and a timer will appear saying 'No connection received' or something along those lines. After it's back up, join immediately. It should run smoothly. If not, I guess you'll either have to lower some settings or upgrade the hardware. Sorry I couldn't give you any technical advice, but I hope this helped somewhat. -
Everyone please get a mic!
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to rokaraged's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't shoot someone for just sitting there not speaking. It's intimidating but they might not know how. It's kind of a stupid chat system. Although, me and a party did have to all agree on killing the only guy without a mic because he was slowing us down and attracting zeds. We asked him to stop for a second. The poor sap laid down and did as he was told, only to receive a Makarov and Enfield round to the face. It was for the good of the group. -
Announcing your presence and to kill or not to kill
lukewishere@hotmail.co.uk replied to Xelacalle's topic in New Player Discussion
Depends really. If they have LOTS of gear, then they're probably going to be paranoid and kill you. I hate the people who get tons of gear, head to Elektro/Cherno and just kill every newly spawned survivor they see. It's pathetic. I mean, is this how you find fun in a post-apocalyptic survival game? Killing people constantly? Go play CoD. In terms of what I do: I usually try to avoid contact unless I'm seen. Then I shout "Friendly" a hundred times. Although, if I'm packing very good gear that I worked hard for, I'd still attempt to avoid all contact and only attack if found. I never return to the main cities once I leave unless it's to get a friend that's just spawned.
