    worth dying and restarting?

While I'm sure you've long since resolved this. . . unless you have broken legs I would keep going until you actually die. Now that the new patch (7.2) has been implemented I've found that going into a town at night is the best option. Head for the nearest town with a grocery store or other loot places and start pigging out on canned food and while you are there get some matches and other things. Yes you may pass out and get eaten by zombies. But if you are quiet and don't aggro them then you can probably pass out in safety. To be sure, bring a smoke grenade if you have one and throw it someplace you don't want to go but isn't in your path to the grocery. This will draw the zombies away from you and to the smoke. Flares do this as well but that will signal you location to everyone within line of sight of 2 kilometers. Also, dump that g17. It's nice to have it at night because it has a built in flashlight but if you want to put something down use the 1911. One shot center mass and zombie is dead. The goal of this game is survival. If you just quit then you've lost. Getting cool loot is just gravy.
  2. Which version of the game did you purchase? STEAM or RETAIL or MIXED: Steam *Are you running an Arma 2 OA beta patch? If so what version?: 1.7.1.5 *Which method are you using to launch the game? I.E Sixupdater/steam/batch file: Arma II launcher from Spirited Machines *What is the Error/Problem you're having? Please provide screenshots if possible: I use a widescreen LCD TV as my monitor. I've set the Interface and 3d Resolution in-game to the equivalent I'm running on my desktop which is 1360 X 768. However, the game doesn't fill the whole screen. There is about 6 inches on either side that are black. I'd like to use the whole monitor if I can. Previously I was running in windowed mode because I thought the game would run better and I didn't see resolutions that matched the settings I need for this LCD TV. Other resolutions will not work on this TV so I have to have 1360X780. I started messing with stuff because my performance has always been choppy. I followed some intructions and advice including downloading Ramdisk (which didn't seem to help), but changing the resolution really made things better. Except that now the game doesn't fill the monitor. It's a 40 inch monitor so I kinda like to get the most out of it. *Your PC specs: Intel Core i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10 GHz 3.10GHz RAM--8.0 GB 64-bit Operating System *Your Operating System: Windows 7 *Have you looked at these threads?: Yes.

How to run Dayz in widescreen?

I have a NVidia GPU and while there are settings to control widescreen on the desktop there appears nothing that will control the widescreen of a game. When I am on the Web or doing other things I have a full wide screen. It's only during this game that the picture is more "square".

How to run Dayz in widescreen?

I'm not running it in windowed mode. I runs better fullscreen but I can't actually get it full screen.
  5. One of the things that is cool about this game is that you are who you are no matter what server you go on. However, lately the bandits don't look like bandits and when you die and respawn you have a fresh slate. That makes it very difficult for survivors to know who to trust. I think if you are a bandit then you should always spawn as a bandit. Always have a red con when people look at you. And all communication should be cut off. No chat and no voip. That way you can talk to survivors and trick them into coming to you or get them to help you and then shoot them in the back. Once a bandit always a bandit. No matter how many times you restart or how you change your name or profile.

    Why aren't bandits ALWAYS bandits?

"And when that doesn't work, as it didn't in the past, you'll ask for PvP to be removed, right? " I'm fine with PVP. What I don't like is not knowing who is friendly and how is not. If someone asks for help and then shoots the guy who helped them in the back that is not PVP. That's just f'ing sick. Fuck it. From now on I'm a bandit. Unless I know you I'll will probably kill you if you get near me.

    Now im a Bandit?

Are people still spawning with a bandit skin? Also, once you kill a bandit they spawn as a survivor again don't they? So how can you tell if they are a bandit?

What is the easiest way to lose zombies?

Here are some tips in no particular order. 1. Run into woods and they may hit trees and stop. 2. Run into building, wait a second until they get to the door and then go out the other side. I usually just shoot them at the door if I have a pistol excess rifle ammo and a chip on my shoulder. 3. Run up hills while zig zagging diagonally. 4. Run down hills and their speed will be too much and they will leap off the side and fall to their deaths. Be careful the hill isn't too steep for you too or you could break a leg too. 5. Run into water or at least the shallows. They will start to follow you and then start walking. 6. Climb a ladder--zombies can climb some ladders and some they can't. Be prepared if they can follow you though. 7. Play with a friend/s who can shoot them as you run around screaming "Help! Help!" 8. Jump a fence. If it's long enough they may not see a path around and may stop following you. This can work in conjunction with running through a building. 9. Run up stairs and find another way out of the building. It helps to crouch and walk when you get upstairs. 10. I've found that while I was in the grocery store and a zombie was walking in the front door I laid down between to shelves and the zombie turned and walked away. I was going prone to shoot him and anyone else but instead he left. May be he could no longer see me. 11. If you fire at a zombie try using a pistol. In particular I like the 1911. It doesn't attract as much attention as a rifle and it's a one shot center mass kill. Mack and G17 take at least one to the head or 2 or more to the body. Center mass is so much faster and easier. With the Mack and G17 you have to spam rounds to be sure and that's wasteful and noisy.

[GUIDE] Keybindings & Tips For New Players

That's pretty much the standard bind that most games use--WASD. I use a different one that I think is superior. You may notice that the keyboard has a little nipple on the F and J keys. This is where you put your index finger when typing so you can type without looking at the keyboard. By making "strafe right" my F key I always know where my hand is on the keyboard should I have to move it to hit some far off key or sneeze or drink something. That nipple is easy to find and I can keep my eyes on the monitor and still find my keys. Also this set up makes two columns of keys to the left of my hand that I can use to bind things to as opposed to just one from WASD. So then my set up is: E--Forward EE--evasive action forward. D--Backward S--Strafe Left F--Strafe Right C--Crouch CC--Stand up Space--prone Space--standup Z--Voice chat (may vary between what voip I'm using. May change it to capslock if I'm using steam or teamspeak. A--Lean Left AA--Toggle Lean Left G--Lean right GG--Toggle Lean Right B--Binoculars BB--Gear X--change weapon mode or switch to thrown weapon. Left Mouse--Fire Right Mouse--Raise weapon Right Mouse--Zoom/hold breath Mouse Button 4--Sprint Mouse Button 5--toggle Run/Walk Mouse Wheel--click switch handgun/rifle Mouse Wheel Roll--view menus/ click to select Those are the only differences I think. What makes this better is that most of my movement and utility options are available without ever taking my hand off the keyboard or mouse. I can use any weapon and do almost everything without taking my finger off the F key. The one exception is the Enter (number pad) which changes to 3rd person. I may rebind that but I can reach it easily with my mouse hand. Also if I use 5th Mouse Button and double click and hold I will go into hard sights mode if necessary.
  10. I lost my Alice pack when i put on a gillie suit.

    Now im a Bandit?

I can't tell the difference. I never see anyone with a bandit skin. They all look alike. Today I was entering a hangar and another guy with a pump shotgun was in there. Having been ganked by players before for no reason and even while I was unarmed and had nothing for them to take I fired my Winchester and hit him in the leg. Just as I was raising to fire he says, "No don't!" Too late! Well not really. I said I was sorry and told him to let me help him out. He said, "No don't." I did it anyway. I bandaged his wound and asked him if he needed anything else. He asked for a morphine and I gave him one of mine. He got up and went on his merry way. I can't remember his name. Murdock or something like that. He logged after he go to the control tower. It's hard to trust people in this game. Usually they shoot you before you can even say "friendly!" and even if you do they shoot you anyway. That just makes it easier for them I guess. I'm not sure what I'll do next time. Probably shoot first. It's hard to do the right thing in DayZ.

A Word To The Wise: What Is He???

Where is your tent? I'll stand guard next time I'm on and make sure he doesn't sneak up on you.
  13. I'm still new but I've put a lot of hours in and I think I've over the steepest part of the learning curve. I'd like to find a team or a group of people to play with. I live in Kentucky, USA GMT -4. I can't play from July 3rd through July 8th from about 2pm GMT (10 am EST) to 6am GMT (2am EST) each day with the exception of Friday nights and Sunday because I play league soccer then. After the 8th I will go back to my old schedule of 2pm GMT to 5pm GMT and then again from around 2am GMT to 6am GMT because I have to work in between those times. Friday through Sunday I have off and can play all day with exception of soccer games. Please post what voip you use and the address and time I can reach you. I can play on UK servers most of the time if you don't mind my accent.

    Everyone please get a mic!

Have a look at these for making things run smoother: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/forums/showthread.php?2565-A-few-simple-notes-on-performance http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1355 http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1186033 That last one mentions mouse smoothing' date=' sorting that out makes a big difference and would probably fix the problem you mentioned having. [/quote'] I figured out why my mic wouldn't transmit. It was broken. I need to get a new one but I tested an old desktop mic and it transmits. Thanks for advice on the performance. There is a steep learning curve in this game and every bit helps.

    ALICE or Czech?

Anyone know why my alice pack and most of the stuff in it disappeared when I put on a gillie suit? I had picked up a czeck vest pack and then put my coyote patrol back on. Then I found the Alice and traded it for the coyote. Then I found the gillie and put it on (I was already wearing a camo suit). When I put the gillie on my Alice disappeared and I only had the Czeck vest pack. My coyote and alice were gone. Any ideas here?

[Suggestion] new ways to fix broken legs

I'm a new player and had finally gotten some good equipment including all that is needed to hunt and cook meat. I was inland rebuilding my strength from a low of 3000 blood and I got attacked and broke my leg. There was a village about a kilometer away but it would take forever to get there and there was no guarantee that there would be morphine there. I had to respawn. The first thing I thought was, "Why can't I make a splint out of wood and bandages to get me where I need to go? Even if I had to run back to Cherno or continue heading north to see what was there I'd still be viable.

    Everyone please get a mic!

I try to use my mic but no one responds. Maybe I'm not using it right. Sometimes I hear people's voices but they never hear me. The game says to hit caps-lock to talk and I see a mic icon on the screen but nobody seems to hear me. I've tried using the . button to change the channels to direct chat or vehicle but still no one hears me. I'm new and half the time I'm killed by players. I don't even have a weapon so there is no need for it whether I have a mic or not they just shoot me. And man the cursor is slow sluggish.
