Blood regeneration/ Healing wounds & 'Broken status' specifications
Stoop_Kid replied to eondude's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Skull fractures aren't necessarily insta-death, they can just give you a wicked head-ache for a few days, and then gradually heal on their own. In addition to this, they could enable setting of bones (say 2 bandages and 2 pieces of wood?). With a bone set, you can move, albeit slowly, and your pain will gradually go away. Although, this would introduce the question of "why doesn't an unset bone give you a fat embolism" so maybe just morphine and a dose of suspension of disbelief for the broken bones. +1 to your idea though! -
Please Read - Do Not Post New Threads About....

Sarcastic hyperbole is generally pretty effective. The idea is there are plenty of these threads, so another is just a drop in a giant bucket. -
Think of the infection as super-rabies rather than super-limes disease. I think this game could be interesting with Romero-style Zs, but right now, it has Danny Boyle-style zombies, which have their own drawbacks and positives.

well great minds think a like :) lets hope the Devs take these points on board :D  I think his point was that you should follow the forum rules and post these thoughts as replies to their original thread. It keeps conversations coherent, and probably makes it easier for devs to consider ideas, as there is one centralized locale where they track community interest on change suggestions. Just hit up the search bar at the bottom of the page and type in some general keywords. I've had quite a few ideas that, turns out, are a couple months old on here. Nothing to get down on yourself about, just keep an eye open for existing threads.

+1 for bikes. Especially in a semi-developed country like Chernarus, bikes would be incredibly common.

I just want to bump this back to the first page. Creating safe-zones for survivors and bandits is getting a lot of threads too. -
I've cared for patients who are "brain dead" and they lay in a bed all day and have to be fed through a tube and have a machine breath for them. If you want to describe the zombies as the "Max Brooks/George Romero style shamblers" do that, "brain dead" implies a lot more than "living dead".

It's permanent enough. Nothing is more frustrating than losing a backpack full of food and a good weapon because you got shot on your way north. Charging people money for lives is just dumb, and you'd end up with maybe 100 people worldwide who were willing to shell out the serious coin required to play that type of game. The lockout on respawns would encourage griefers because they'd be shooting at unarmed chars. Add in a 24 hour lockout along with charging 30 bucks for 5 lives and you'd end up with snipers every 40 meters in the tree line headshotting anyone stupid enough to play your proposed game. Then we'd all come here and read all the bandits lawling the day away at the amount of noobs they cheated out of hard-earned money and time.

This is a Video Game. It'll Never Be 100% Realistic. Bandit and Sheriff Skins
Stoop_Kid replied to krytosss's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you're so wrapped up in clothing customization, play TF2. It's free, you get hats, and you're separated into color-coded teams. I personally like the PvP the way it is. Today, I dropped a shotgun for a stranger because I had 2000 blood and wasn't sure how much longer I was going to make it. That 10 seconds between drop and watching them equip was incredibly tense, and I don't want to lose that tension. They actually didn't shoot me either, so there's that. -
Yet another "How to stop banditry" thread.
Stoop_Kid replied to soapmak3r's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've got a better fix: stop making these threads! After reading the hundredth thread covering the same tired issue, I've decided to axe-murder the next player I see, and they have you to thank. I wasn't a bandit until today, and now, I'm shooting on sight. -
I'm a huge advocate of players starting with a limited-durability melee weapon. Like you said, who doesn't have at least one item in their home that they'd pick up if a zombie apocalypse went down?
-
Wouldn't work. Players will always be holding better loot, and bandits will always have the draw of shooting things that roam away from zombie spawns (people). Basically, if you don't want to end up a bandit target, just watch yourself after you've picked up anything more than your opening supplies, and pray that you find a few people who won't shoot you in the back.

Here's the link to the existing thread. Next time do a few searches in the tool bar to see if your idea has already been proposed, that way the discussion stays together and coherent. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=24415

"Many players quitting"...."myself and about 10 others" uh-oh, Katie, bar the door, we got ourselves a regular exodus over here.
-
Why not just start with a melee weapon that has limited durability? Say, 100 strikes rather than the usual amount? That way you have a way to kill a few Zs, but you're useless against a group. I know a lot of people follow the "not everyone has a gun" argument, and I agree, but it's not unreasonable for people to have axes, crowbars, whatever that can be used for short-term defense.

+1 simple and effective.

Remove The Screen Shake While In Pain.
Stoop_Kid replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
+1. Motion sickness and epilepsy are real concerns when your whole screen quakes ad infinitum. Just make the ADS shake, maybe introduce a blur filter around the edges of the frame and add more gasping to remind you that you're messed up. -
Slower zombies, increased numbers.....
Stoop_Kid replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To me, every piece of zombie apocalypse fiction has centered around the fact that, when our back's against the wall, the unpredictability of man is 100x more deadly than any external threat. Yes, the zombies need to be deadly, but players should be mostly concerned with other players. Like I said, we have higher thinking. We can plan, set traps, and manipulate; while a zombie is only concerned with an insatiable hunger for living flesh. To me, this mod is only partly about zombies, and more about the elaborate social interactions we have with strangers in a hostile world. The slow zombies then force us to examine each other more than the grey corpses that we're going to kill regardless of how quickly a unit closes in on us. The monsters are interesting, but flat-out survival is far more engaging imo. -
Slower zombies, increased numbers.....
Stoop_Kid replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've been thinking about suggesting this, glad I did a forum search! Agree 100% with the slower zombies, sprint control for players, and head-shots only. It'd be good to up the ante and have the zeds do more damage too (make up for their lack of speed). The slow pace of movement would probably eliminate zombies phasing through objects, and would allow players to crawl through gaps in fences as a means of escape. It'd be good, too, to incorporate the concept of "hordes" or "packs". Then the slow zombies have a chance of walling in a careless player in a city. Also (I'm sure this has been suggested) the zombies should be more interested in bleeding players, corpses, and animals. The most fundamental aspect of zombies is the fact that they're a removal of our higher thinking, so make them more animalistic by attacking the slower, or outright dead targets. After all, we have to eat, so do they (in a way). That would introduce the temptation to wound or outright kill your friends if you're a less scrupulous player, as it provides you a cheap, one bullet distraction from a massive crowd of Zs.
