Does anyone dislike the "no military stuff" agrument?

this actually changes a lot for me: i was under the impression that a certain PVP aspect of the game was intended, i was wrong apparently. Like many other players, i was kind of fooled by the way the MOD worked , in hindsight. I do not agree with the new vision of rocket, and i think some aspects ( rarity and spreading of loot ) were not even clearly stated last year when the SA was released . the dev tracker posts etc from last year they gave a complete wrong picture of this, as they just showed pictures and pictures of newly added loot spawn sites etc, which probably made a lot of players think that the SA would have more loot included ( atleast it made me and my friends think that ). it is good to know these things, as i now know that being involved in this game probably makes not so much sense for me anymore , as i do respect the dev teams vision, but to me it makes the game less fun :(
  2. So i played the standalone since release, and i also played the mod since early times. Right now the SA is just boring, and i stoppped playing it like a month ago. I actually stopped because of a reason that should be very concerning to the DEVs, and i didnt stop alone but all of my friends stopped as well. The reason was : DAYZ SA right now is boring. its simply no fun. There are 2 main reasons it is boring , and i will describe them plus i will give easy solutions. 1. Zombies are boring and overpowered at the same time, despite being no real danger and more or less just annoying. While they detect players from hundreds of yards, they dont pose a threat since there are not enough on the map and they are easy to kill. I remember the mod where it was actually possible to bypass zombies while sneaking/hiding or killing them with a silenced gun. Despite their buggy behavior this was a ton more fun in the MOD than it is in the SA, because when you messed up, zombies in the mod stacked and just killed you in a mob. SOLUTION: easy fix, turn down zombie detection, increase zombie numbers on server. if this fucks up server performance, it should be one of the topmost things on the fix list. 2. Loot distribution - right now there are atleast 5x more loot spots on the map, probably even more, compared to the mod. yet the game is boring as shit when it comes to loot as all you find is useless junk like gas stoves, and misc clothing items or incomplete guns ( finding 5 sporter rifles and ammo but not a single magazine while playing is not realistic but just boring ). right now you basically walk hours around and just collect garbage. SOLUTION: easy fix as well, just change loot distribution. more guns, more useful stuff, more military gear. to the people that will scream "but dayz is about being hardcore survival": i know it is, but its still a game, and games are supposed to be fun. they can be frustrating, i get it, but they SHOULD NOT be boring. players need rewards, and as far as i remember, finding military grade loot was one of the biggest motivators in the mod and every other zombie scenario i know, since it rewards players for exploring. Some people might add that giving players high grade guns makes it to easy, as they will start pvp because they dont know what to do ingame etc, but thats the point: right now , there is no other endgame content then pvp. i thought its what dayz is partly made for isnt it ? At least it was in the mod. TLDR: the game so far is nothing more than a hiking simulator for "how do i hike around a big empty map with forests without freezing/hungering/thirsting to death", which is not really difficult since all you find is clothes or food and drinks. if i remember right, dayz was about zombies and survival and not about simulating a hike. DEVS, you must focus on getting the basics balanced first, before you start playing around with cosmetic updates etc.

Status Report - Week of 18 August 14

At least the melee system seems to have improved to a point where it is possible to kill zombies with a melee weapon in acceptable time.

Hardly anyone Does scouting and looting silently right now. This is true, but it is true because of the fact that zombie aggro/player detection is HORRIBLY broken - ever since the game has been released if you ask me. Zombies either get stuck and ignore you completely or spot you from hundreds of meters away regardless of how much noise you make/ how visible you are. Bein silent and crouching right now is a complete waste of time, atleast as of now. broken zombie detection is the biggest gameplay/mechanic problem regarding zombies right now.

yeah i was not referring to the map-part of his comment but rather the performance regarding part.

" as we won't release it until multiplayer performance is stable and acceptable enough to provide useful feedback." i wonder what this might mean exactly ? are they still experiencing that severe performance problems that its not ready to go alpha yet ? i wonder if/how bad it is then... just a thought but : if its really bad performance thats stopping them from going alpha it must somehow be even worse than than the Dayz arma2 mod.. which in other word would mean they changed engine, did the mp architectural change, developed the network bubble, redid zombies, all to make the game MORE performant yet somehow they achieved quite the opposite ?!

well i quote myself: testing does not mean release. he basically confirmed what i suspected...

well i think it means more or less they will not do the mp test today. since its already late. dont get your hopes to up guys, it seems they just started mp testing it on a larger scale. i am pretty sure they will NOT release before having had it test with at least 100 people. that might be now, but it might also be next march. and if they do a bigger mp test with 20 people - well there still might be a big difference from 20 to 100 people online. especially when it comes to the way the network bubble handles more than up to or more than 100 people in a small area. testing does not necessarily mean a nearing release. SCRUM ( which they seem to utilize if you read all the news about sprints and post sprint meetings etc) is often combined with test driven development , so it might very well be in fact the network bubble they are still working on. And they might just have gotten to a point where they are confident enough to try it out in a large scale test. we will see, but im just saying: dont be disappointed if/when it does neither release during oct, nor november or december.

all the people who thought 28th of october would be release day..its 28th today and no news, no release. guess you were wrong :D

    hmm any news ?!

LOL for some reason at first i did not connect this info with the game but just read "baseball bat fight " and actually thought the devs were just roughhousing around the office with real baseball bats...hmmm. :D :D . Maybe my brain is conditioned to think dean and the others are doing anything but actually developing ;-)
  12. Pretty sure its still broken. As is stated before, the would release it if it would make any sense. Roundup is just confirming my theory that its so broken and not working right now it wouldnt make any sense to go alpha. If i had to bet my money i would say the date will be pushed back to late octobre, with a further push until decembre.
  13. exactly fraggle ! and thats why im concerned because further delaying right now makes me think about the progress they make..if its still in an THAT early stage, im not convinced it will be released anytime soon !
  14. Not sure if this is valid - found it on reddit.
  15. i am seriously doubting that. its an alpha and , as many people here already said, dayZ is for hardcore players anyway. most of these players played the mod and are used to laggy glitching bug infested versions of DayZ. Im not even saying it will be less successful if pushed back. I just think the dev process will actually speed up if released sooner. Simply because they will have a lot more feedback data on how well the game scales on different systems, how well the game mechanics work etc. Without damaging reputation or anything since its just an ALPHA. tldr: Release the Alpha SOONER, and speed up the DEV Process in the long run. It sure worked fine on the mod did it ? and with a reasonable price it will also on the SA in my eyes.
  16. well people were disappointed because the company delayed the game again and again and again for too long. Always claiming they wanted to make it as good as it can get. And of course people increased their expectations because of it : "well its gotta be REALLY good if they take so long for itright ?" By the time they rolled it out it was not even possible anymore to fullfill these expectations. Especially if its a game thats in production for too long: a lot of times these everlast-to-develope Titles take so long because they run into to trouble and problems, causing the final product to be mediocre
  17. I think its about time. Its an alpha release. no one expects the game to be finished or "GOOD". I think with trying to release an alpha that is uber "GOOD", you guys just push expectations to a new high. Instead you should relase the alpha and be honest about its flaws. no one will turn away etc, but everyone will be happily playing it and finding bugs etc. - this could also speed up the dev process. I only see ONE possibility that might cause the delay and that would be if the announced architecture change was not ready yet. Could this be the case ?
  18. Yeah i knew we had a thread like this, but i think it was about ingame only..thought would be an interesting addition :D i will: 1. Try out the new dumping system : cant beat getting buttraped by zeds while taking a shite ( literally) 2. loot houses : cant wait to find all the new interieurs of the houses, formerly known as concrete blocks, filled with goodies 3. axemurder random person ( an alltime classic - doesnt necessarily apply to Standalone does it ? )

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Its not about wether its a good decision or not. Its just not professional to claim a release date, and when you look at his older interviews he seemed to be really sure about it, and postpone it without an official word or announcement to the community. if he just stated a news like "hey, we changed to much to get it done until decembre, im really tired right now, taking a break for holiday " it wouldve been ok , because everyone knows that setting back dates is normal in game dev business. again, its not about the fact that its delayed but rather about the circumstances and the lack of official information. i had to dive through heaps of posts on the forum to find out that its actually delayed or lets say really likely to be delayed, because they never really said it out loud. or did i miss anything ?
