Just take an enfield go to electro hill and wait for someone to log in there. -
Why Bandit skins are a terrible idea.
SillySil replied to RaxUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Assuming survival is the objective KoS is the best choice because there are no downsides to it. What I'd like to see is a reason not to shoot people. Yes you can lessen chances of getting shot by controlling the situation but you will always be at the mercy of the guy you're trying to befriend. Because you will always turn your back from him at some point. It's not challenging to walk to someone close enough to talk over direct and ask him "friendly" while either pointing your gun at him or from cover. The only challenging thing in it is not getting shot by someone else, but you always have this, doesn't matter if you're friendly or not. This challenge is always present. I KoS. I don't befriend people to shoot them. If that was my thing I'd just grind the hero skin and lead the guys to my friends who would shoot them. And with the hero skin my success rate would skyrocket. I don't like the skins because they are a bad mechanic in my opinion. I'd rather have friendly and KoS playstyles equally valid if your objective is to survive. Even if skins are 100% reflecting whether someone is a bandit or not. There are things that can't be controlled. Like someone grinding hero skin to befriend people and relay their position to bandit friends. The skins will never be perfect. Balance the playstyles instead. Give disadvantages to KoS. I shoot on sight because every mechanic supports this playstyle. I eliminate threats asap and gear up fast. Once you have the gear and start killing, you never need to scavenge again, go to a hospital/shop. KoS and looting people efficiently puts you out of danger. I have replied above to the trust thing. How are my statements contradictory? I don't like how playstyles are imbalanced. Mechanics of DayZ favor KoS. That's why I'm a bandit. I'd like to see both playstyles to be equally valid because that would make the game richer. To have that there would have to be disadvantages to KoS. Because right now there aren't any. If both playstyles would be equally valid at surviving then I'd probably be a bandit hunter. Even taking the chance of being backstabbed to account. The point is to give a tradeoff to it. -
Who the hell uses small cal weapons to PvP? Freshspawns? Who cares about small cal seriously? If you have any primary, everyone with smal cal is as good as dead. "cooler skin" opinion. Only running faster and not getting KoSed by survivors is a valid trade off. But. I don't need people to trust me. I shoot them before they can say "hi". Faster running speed is the only thing I'm missing. I'd rather have all the gear I'm picking up from my victims and eliminate potential threats the moment I see them instead of trusting people not to shoot me, even with the hero skin. ... never scavenges as in, once you get gear, you no longer need to go to hospitals or look for food or ammo. You just resupply from corpses. But you don't go into electro and run around the town do you? You shoot from the outskirts. If you resupply from corpses you don't need to put yourself in danger. I don't understand your reasoning. Yeah you chose bad and now you're at a disadvantage. It doesn't matter if it's your choice or not. You still are at a disadvantage. If I choose to go into town with a sniper rifle then I put myself at a disadvantage compared to people who have rifles, doesn't matter it's my choice or not. I wasn't talking about advantages/disadvantages given to skins but to playstyles. And "certain playstyles are not as good as others" well that's the problem isn't it? If you choose not to shoot on sight you put yourself at a disadvantage. You will die more often and you will gear up slower. You can make up any objective you want and they might be piss easy. However if you want to survive, shooting on sight is the best option.

Does not compute. Isn't the guy playing in the harder style at a disadvantage compared to the guy who plays in the easier style? I already listed them. You eliminate threats asap and additionally you get their stuff. Never have to go scavenge yourself. You can avoid going to hotspots. Friendlies don't do that. Not only they have to go to hospitals/shops/stary/nw/etc they either hide from or approach strangers which is more dangerous than just putting a bullet in them. And yeah, you can balance for playstyles. WoW being perfect example. Whether you are DPS, heal or tank you can get the same thing. It's all viable.
-
If this is a sandbox. How come a particular way of playing is favored?
-
"it is my choice if I want to be friendly, for variety of reasons. why do I have to be at a disadvantage compared to killing people on sight?" It makes no sense. Currently survivors are the ones being punished. This is what makes no sense. And you know this how? It's all your speculation without ANY ground. And I can give you examples of how people always bunched up together and helped each other in dark times. And if you think you'd be running around being a badass with a gun around and murdering people for a can of beans... keep dreaming. He won't punish banditry but he's gonna favor it and thus punish being friendly. Makes sense. I'm the one on the electro hill with as50 and a 2 friends with AWS. I'd have over 100k negative humanity if my stats didn't reset for some reason upon one death. You really should stop assuming things, you're really bad at it.

If the game was supposed to be FFA DM it would just be FFA DM with a scoreboard or something. If the game was supposed to be FFA DM there would have never been a bandit skin. What the hell are you even saying? If I were in similar situation where? In game or in real life? Cause if in real life then why would you later say that it has nothing to do with real life? This makes no sense. And how is the argument moot? Banditry has advantage over being friendly. Setting the gamemode to FFA DM. And the devs are trying to change that. Ideally both options would be equally valid. They aren't. Can any 13 year old try to shoot everyone they see? I don't need any evidence to prove it to you. ANYBODY can do it. The choice has nothing to do with skill. The efficiency at killing does. But I have never mentioned it. What do you mean there is no advantage for banditry over being friendly. Sure there is. Not only you eliminate all threats asap but you get to loot the gear from dead bodies. Friendlies can't do that. Not only they have to hide more and put themselves in danger if they want to communicate with someone, they have to scavenge for everything themselves. It's way faster to just kill someone and take their stuff. That's pretty ironic. You're the guy saying that dayz has nothing to do with real life and then asking me about how things look in real life.

I can't believe you people are crying over such a minor thing compared to how much survivors are at a disadvantage.
-
What? Better players? So FFA DM is the intended gamemode? If you want to play FFA DM there are plenty of games to choose from. This was never meant to be like that. However the mechanics favored, and still favor banditry over being friendly. And it doesn't have anything to do with skill. Any 13 year old can shoot everyone they see. The bandit skin was implemented to add a disadvantage to banditry. Because before the patch, it didn't have any. Before the patch there was absolutely no reason not to shoot people on sight. And don't get me wrong. I don't support the skins, I think it's a bad way of doing it. But there have to be disadvantages for banditry.

They have never been threated equally that's the point. The bandit always had advantage over survivor. Still do.

Lets talk about DayZ logic. Here are some things that bug me. http://imgur.com/a/INeFd You can either suggest some or make some yourself. Here's the template http://i.imgur.com/sPcFs.jpg

Haha keep those coming.

I've had my bus relocate 200 meters in random direction at random times when nobody is in it.

You're implying that you have more chance against scripters if you have better weapons. How does that work? He can turn you into a chicken and teleport you 5 km above ground, how's a better gun going to help you? Hive reset will not fix things. But it will give you a week or two of more or less normal gameplay. Normal as in spawn percentages will be actually reflected in people's gear. If you wanted to fix the gear issue you'd have to get rid of scripts and duping. For that we need to wait for standalone.

Hacker teleported me off map into ocean.
SillySil replied to Porkwagon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Try server hopping it might spawn you on the coast. The reason why you're not moving on the gps is because it only tracks you to a border and then just stops there even if you move further. If your direction is good you should eventually get to shore. Unless you starve first. But you can try both at the same time. -
I've seen players with 20+ days survived...HOW?
SillySil replied to Aypoc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have 30 days. Just because I haven't been playing on hive much. And my last death resulted in respawning on the beach with nothing, not even a flashlight or backpack but my stats and day counter didn't reset. -
Destroy the game. Unless they are fun, scaring people and shit... you know, not ruining your day and killing you.
-
Get hero skin and try to make people kill me to make them bandits or lure them into a trap set by my friends.

Why does Rocket want us to have congenital insenssitivity?
SillySil replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except you do have hunger/thirst indicators in real life. You just can't see them in the corner of your vision, you feel them instead. -
Wow you stopped the duping man... And then they meet up and dupe all the weapons they need anyway. All you did was give them an hour of walking/duping. Being a dick to them was justified but you give yourself too much credit.

Why does Rocket want us to have congenital insenssitivity?
SillySil replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How is this thread moot? A dev wants to make a change in the game, not everyone knows about it, I think it's a bad idea, and I wanted to talk about it. See if there are others thinking like me. Maybe no one has challenged Rocket about it yet. And seeing how he has a horde of "I completely agree with everything he said and will defend it no matter how stupid my arguments are" fanboys following him I wouldn't be surprised. You know you're not going to improve if you don't consider that what you're doing might be wrong or you can do better. About the ammo. Yeah, I think it's a good idea. If I can refill my mags and somehow tell which one weights more than another. And seriously. How the fuck am I crying? You fanboys make no sense. I gave good reasons why UI is necessary when it comes to things like hunger/cold. I raised a concern and gave reasons why his idea isn't good in my opinion. How is that crying? Seriously fanboy logic. "someone doesn't like something? no one can question Rocket. what a whiny, entitled codfag." I'm not against the idea, I'm against making it obligatory. If it's going to be optional then I have no reason to be against implementing it. -

Except you make no sense. I never said flashing icons in corner of your vision are realistic. There are part of USER INTERFACE because you can't simulate feelings in video games. UI is a replacement for things you can't portray using monitor and speakers. And you can't portray hunger with audible signs, because hunger isn't a yes or no thing. It's a scale. Good luck portraying that using sound. What are you going to do, add a constant tone that changes depending on how hungry you are?
